I don't understand his reasoning that the umbrella is the reason, as it would work just as well from the other direction. The doors are rear hinged because it makes it easier to get in and out, as the passenger can exit forward, and thus avoid having to turn and potentially flash up their skirt should the paps be waiting. It also allowed chauffeurs to open the door easier, but I think that was mainly for Taxis where the driver could open the door without getting out.

It's all about brand & marketing not practicality. It's actually more awkward for a chauffeur as they can't just pull the rear door from just outside the driver door; he has to walk past the rear door almost to the trunk before pulling it open to avoid blocking the person trying to get out.)
