There might not be high quality evidence proving masks work but there probably isn't any high quality evidence that masks don't work either. And for a illness that is spread through the eyes nose and mouth, I'd be inclined to think it would be beneficial that we cover our eyes nose and mouths. It's a bit like sunglasses, if you will. So, you don't always need a weatherman to tell you when it's pouring down. But then again if everyone else is wearing masks you may not need to, but there is always someone who won't be.
@davidste602 жыл бұрын
Disease transmission isn't readily available to the senses, comparing it to pouring rain is a false equivalence. And there is proof that the glare of the Sun will damage your eyes, again a bad example.
@awh42722 жыл бұрын
@@davidste60 sensory availability here is irrelevant. I was talking more about the obvious nature of certain factors. Do you really need proof that glaring at the sun will damage your eyes!? Is it any wonder that sewing your mouth shut will stop you eating more cake?
@davidste602 жыл бұрын
@@awh4272 Yes, without proof it's an unwarranted assumption that glare will damage your eyes. It's no more or less obvious that pushups will destroy your pectoral muscles, without evidence. Sewing your mouth shut and eating cake is again a false equivalence.
@awh42722 жыл бұрын
@@davidste60 once again false equivalences are irrelevant. Obvious factors not needing to be proved/disproved, are relevant, as in the original statements made.
@davidste602 жыл бұрын
@@awh4272 They are not obvious, and that is relevant. Pushups cause pain in the muscles and quickly diminish you're ability to keep performing them. You only know that they are not damaging because of evidence and you only know that staring at the Sun is damaging and doesn't actually improve your eyesight over longer periods of time because of evidence. So yes, proof is needed for all things that aren't immediately available to the senses.

Comedians riff and that’s how they gain new material. I wonder if it bores yourself to criticize someone without criticizing anything about their ideas as they just listed a bazillion things you could talk about. I have an original thought concerning XY axis, the first and last commandment, and how you can use that as a target on how to get you to a place where the mob has little effect on you. New material from Thiel 2 months ago concerning Girard was What gave me this idea. I’ve seen every single Peter Thiel video and this is completely new. I challenge you to talk about ideas. This generic criticism is Weak and has to stop? The first commandment is to always be looking up and the last commitment is to never be looking around you. As smart as he may be, he is so shockingly wrong about covid. It isn't excessive dogmatism when the entire community of public heath physicians and infectious disease experts agree on the strategy to prevent covid transmission (i.e. masks and vaccines, that do work) - not him citing that one Stanford fringe medical doctor who hasn't had any training in this area. As much as it may seem cool to be contrarian and oppose mainstream thinking, it is mainstream for a reason and the science is extremely overwhelming about what works and what doesn't.

Some people are to smart for their own good. They are very knowledgeable in one field like extremely smart in one field but they make the mistake and think they can just carry over this to another field. Being ignorant about the amount of effort it takes to be that knowledgeable in any field. I have the feeling that Thiel suffers from this form of ignorance, brilliant man but underestimates the effort to learn other fields of knowledge.
