Prof. Nussbaum is such a role model for the importance of ambitious , humble, and relevant scholarship for society! Most (social science) scholars, unfortunately, are not like her. A delightful interview - you can feel her passion for intellectual breadth , sharpness, and a willingness to evolve and self-correct! Looking forward to seeing her in Antwerp this September at the HDCA annual conference!

@@paulwolinsky1538 I never understand a word of what Butler says. I just thought it would be interesting to have them and Nussbaum on the same panel, given the latter's brilliant essay on Butler "The Professor of Parody"

@@SvenErik_Lindstrom3 I can't say I've really paid Butler much mind. I find pomos like Butler, Jacqueline Rose and many of the French Feminists to have some very useful notions, which often get confused treatments upon elaboration. This is true often enough in general, but if the comparison of "writing from the body" by writers like decade, Mailer and someone like Forster were made w/ Woolf, Sarautte (?sp), Duras or Anita Brookner or Jodi Picoult were attempted, I really don't have the faintest idea what would come of it. It's funny: writers often quote, "You get up in the morning, face the blank page, and sweat (blood) pours from your forehead - everyone does everything from the body, somehow...nice to be a French madameoiselle, though, right?

I would love to see Martha in Conversation with Sadhguru! In fact, bring in all the experts to discuss Consciousness! Martha offers many insights. Her interest in India brings an opportunity to explore this further with Sadhguru! A Global Mental Health Pandemic is on the doorstep of humanity and to expand one’s own consciousness is the last step in human evolution. The conversation on consciousness holds a key to the future of our species. Those curious can find Sadhguru’s conversation with the US Surgeon General at Harvard on 09/28/24.

25:25 yes disgust is a tricky one for me. I must use this continually at my work. People have vary different foods they enjoy. Sometimes I think it's gross but must show no emotion on it. Nor make a judging remark. It's not animal btw, it's sugar.

The strange thing about America is how class status tied itself to academia after the 1950s. The result speaks to the divisions or disconnects in society. For example, host this in a local Chicago park to make it accessible. Bring kevlar vest too.

To say a baby’s cry is undifferentiated flies in the face of parental experience! The experience of feeling loved is a cognitive emotion that is critically important and goes unmentioned.
@planetvegan7843 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps it takes an unbiased child-free person to perceive undifferentiated crying. Also, this has nothing to do with the context she was using the term in.

@@planetvegan7843 we are all biased and as adults we are all responsible for, and therefore the opposite of “child free. Is there a context I am missing? Another adult responsibility is to be open and listen.

And of course, most Indians also do not feel a strong emotion of compassion for Americans, or indeed anyone else. Truly a galaxy brain level of insight here

A platitude is a trite, meaningless, or prosaic statement, often used as a thought-terminating cliché, aimed at quelling social, emotional, or cognitive unease. The statement may be true, but its meaning has been lost due to its excessive use.
