The Plug-In Hybrid is only sold in a few States. It is not available everywhere. I have this model and I LOVE it. The Safety features are second to none. It drives itself and the adaptive cruise control goes all the way to 0. The car will stop if it finds the car in front has stopped and if the car in front starts again, then this car will start as well. The rain sensing wipers are amazing as well!

Have had mine for a little over a week now. I don’t care abbot how fast it isn’t. This SUV is larger than what oriole give it credit for. Shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as a Rav4 (which I got rid of for this Santa Fe) or CRV. At 6’2”, I actually able to drive with the seat not pushed all the way back. Fully loaded SEL premium trim too. Thanks for the review!

Below is a copy and paste from a Tucson PHEV forum...Tucson uses the same drivetrain and hybrid platform as the Santa Fe. Great tips for keeping your Santa Fe PHEV and/or Tucson PHEV in EV mode in the cold winter temps. "We got our Tucson PHEV Ultimate just before we had a cold snap (-10c/-15c). Yes in EV mode only the engine will stay on if the HVAC is on. So my wife warms up the cabin then turns off the HVAC. The engine immediately turns off. The heated seats and the heated steering wheel run off the battery so she always has that on. Now that the temps are warmer (L:3c / H:7c), the EV stays on most of the time. We found that turning the HVAC to low fan, setting the cabin temp to 19c, the engine stays off for the most part. At first we were initially disappointed that the HVAC had to run off the engine but now the vehicle stays on EV 90% of the time and we are very happy. After 570kms we are getting 3.3L/100kms and that continues to drop. This is really how hybrids work and we have owned a few in the past. The 2022 PHEV Tucson is by far the best hybrid we have had."

That's because of the outdated 6 speed auto and mechanical AWD, which creates more drag in the drivetrain. I agree with Sofyan that a hybrid vehicle should have either a CVT or, at the very least, more gear ratios. It seems like Hyundai kept a lot of the non-hybrid systems in this vehicle to save cost.

When you fill up the gas what's the average maximum amount of miles that the fuel gage displays? I know it'll change sometimes, but say it's 381, 378, and 398 were the typical fuel gage readings you get on a full tank, I'm looking for the average of whatever it is you get. Are those numbers similar? As well, how long does it take till you have to refill? Do you have to charge the battery?

Hyundai is killing it right now. They're electrifying their entire (mostly) range of vehicles when other companies like Nissan and Honda are only offering gas-guzzling ICE vehicles for the most part. At a time when the world is facing a global climate crisis, Hyundai is taking the lead and preparing for that day when all their vehicles will have to be all-electric. Kudos to them and shame to the other companies who are dragging their heels on electrifying their fleet.

Climate crisis 😂 Do your own research instead of just being fed misinformation from MSM and governments to keep you scared and obidient. Also hybrids and EVs still have very large carbon footprint and use electricity from out grids that overwhelming still run on oil, coal and nat gas. Wind and sun can't blow and shine everyday. There's also 2 billion humans without any electricity that will take lowest cost electricity (coal and oil) so expect global carbon emissions to continue to rise for decades. Lastly remember China and India are by far biggest carbon emmitors with massive populations. Your EV purchase won't save the planet 😉

@chuckhpnwx
@chuckhpnwx 2 жыл бұрын
It will depend on your driving. If you only drive on the highway then there is little advantage other than this is more powerful and quicker than the base 2.5 motor. If you drive mostly city then this is going to give you at least 10 more miles to the gallon. From what I have seen, most people with the 2.5 are getting less than advertised mileage in the city, but the hybrid owners are getting better than advertised, so I would say it's probably more like a 15 MPG advantage in the city. And then there is that extra oomph.

Sofyans got a heavy foot. On highway hybrids fuel economy drop almost to ICE equivilants since no regen braking or EV only happening. My 2019 Rav4 hybrid averages 32 mpg at 75 mph.
@Drogos79
@Drogos79 2 жыл бұрын
@@James-il3tq yeah, 32 mpg HWY for small hybrid suv is rather mediocre. I am almost certain, fuel variants play a huge role. Yes, I know, 87 octane is 87 ..is 87...but that's the thing, It's not. Octanes just define detonation resistance. I did a little bit deeper dive on this and depending on state and even county, you will have different RVP requirements for the gasoline. I am pretty sure it affects actual calorific value of fuel, hence engine efficiency changes. Also, driving style on the HWY and NOT using cruise control will help. When driving with even slight terrain variations, cruise control will have to raise revolution or even drop the gear to go up hill and will prevent car from gaining speed on the downslope. If you allow 5-10MPH speed variance by focusing on consistant gas pedal application not speed, you will get better efficiency. Let the car drop revolutions and slow down a bit on ups and let it gain speed on downs. It requires changing lanes often but if you turn it into a little challenge, you can easily gain 2-3MPG on longer trips. Also...my 10 year old VW CC 6MT will do 32-34MPG on flat IL HWY at 75MPH. 2.0L Turbo. Premium fuel from Costco. It's a very low car with relatively low drag coefficient and I will usually have 35PSI cold in tires so that helps....still. 32MPG mate....IDK. Tires play a role for sure. These new cars are often "overtired" lol...Tires are too wide to create better grip but it certainly doesn't help with MPG

I had a transmission fail in my Santa Fe (there was a batch of defective ones made in January of 2021, it was going to take two months to get a new transmission and my wife was going to buy a new car next year, so I traded my Santa Fe in for the Tucson for her. I really like her Tucson but the prefer the Santa Fe for long trips, I'll be getting a new Santa Fe in a few months, most likely a hybrid or PHEV, but a Limited trim for sure. TURBO is what we we test drove gas ⛽️ 21 at $51 k

Hi Sofyan; a great review as usual I'm currently torn between a '22 Outback Touring 2.5 & either a loaded Santa Fe or Tucson Hybrid for our "road car" (already have a Kia Niro PHEV for city use). The cars match up pretty well in terms of utility & tech (although Hyundai wins in the tech) but the Hyundai will get 5-10 better MPG. Both Hyundai hybrids in my area a selling for $3-$4K above MSRP. But since I can get the OB with VIP pricing, the OB cost about $8K less. What are your thoughts on the overall comfort of the OB Touring in terms of comfort for a "road car""?

I agree that a hybrid vehicle should have either a CVT or, at the very least, more than 6 gear ratios. It seems like Hyundai carried over a lot of parts from the non-hybrid (mechanical AWD) to cut costs, which compromises the fuel economy of this hybrid model significantly.

WRONG ON ALL COUNTS. Manual AWD works much better, solid than e-AWD of toyota. 6 speed allows better towing than 8 speed. HYBRID WORKS BEST WITH NON CVT TURBO ENGINE

See the other commenter who has a PHEV but only drive 5 miles to work. They see 36-37 from the battery. I see 42-45 miles on battery from a 2018 CT6 2.0E plug-in but also only drive 12 miles to work and can also charge at work. Yes, unlike GM and Tesla who have exhausted their fed tax credits, Hyundai still has them if you purchase instead of lease.

The Tucson Hybrid is the better vehicle. Better MPG, better handling and driving experience and based on my own experience and other reviews the Tucson honestly has as much if not better interior room and cargo space, other than a bit more width in the Santa Fe. It’s similar with the Venza compared to the RAV4 in that the extra length doesn’t really convert to better interior space and cargo room. The Santa Fe has more luxury on the top end and has a more conventional look inside and out, so that may appeal to some people. It is a nice vehicle as I’ve test driven it a few times, but the Tucson Hybrid just makes more sense overall when you start making the comparisons. Hyundai seems to have realized this and is pumping out more Tucson Hybrids than Santa Fes. I’ve seen Santa Fe hybrids sit on the lot for a long time, which should tell you something in this market. It’s a niche product.
