Below is a copy and paste from a Tucson PHEV forum...Tucson uses the same drivetrain and hybrid platform as the Santa Fe. Great tips for keeping your Santa Fe PHEV and/or Tucson PHEV in EV mode in the cold winter temps. "We got our Tucson PHEV Ultimate just before we had a cold snap (-10c/-15c). Yes in EV mode only the engine will stay on if the HVAC is on. So my wife warms up the cabin then turns off the HVAC. The engine immediately turns off. The heated seats and the heated steering wheel run off the battery so she always has that on. Now that the temps are warmer (L:3c / H:7c), the EV stays on most of the time. We found that turning the HVAC to low fan, setting the cabin temp to 19c, the engine stays off for the most part. At first we were initially disappointed that the HVAC had to run off the engine but now the vehicle stays on EV 90% of the time and we are very happy. After 570kms we are getting 3.3L/100kms and that continues to drop. This is really how hybrids work and we have owned a few in the past. The 2022 PHEV Tucson is by far the best hybrid we have had."

It will depend on your driving. If you only drive on the highway then there is little advantage other than this is more powerful and quicker than the base 2.5 motor. If you drive mostly city then this is going to give you at least 10 more miles to the gallon. From what I have seen, most people with the 2.5 are getting less than advertised mileage in the city, but the hybrid owners are getting better than advertised, so I would say it's probably more like a 15 MPG advantage in the city. @Drogos792 жыл бұрын
@@James-il3tq yeah, 32 mpg HWY for small hybrid suv is rather mediocre. I am almost certain, fuel variants play a huge role. Yes, I know, 87 octane is 87 ..is 87...but that's the thing, It's not. Octanes just define detonation resistance. I did a little bit deeper dive on this and depending on state and even county, you will have different RVP requirements for the gasoline. I am pretty sure it affects actual calorific value of fuel, hence engine efficiency changes. Also, driving style on the HWY and NOT using cruise control will help. When driving with even slight terrain variations, cruise control will have to raise revolution or even drop the gear to go up hill and will prevent car from gaining speed on the downslope. If you allow 5-10MPH speed variance by focusing on consistant gas pedal application not speed, you will get better efficiency. Let the car drop revolutions and slow down a bit on ups and let it gain speed on downs. It requires changing lanes often but if you turn it into a little challenge, you can easily gain 2-3MPG on longer trips. Also...my 10 year old VW CC 6MT will do 32-34MPG on flat IL HWY at 75MPH. 2.0L Turbo. Premium fuel from Costco. It's a very low car with relatively low drag coefficient and I will usually have 35PSI cold in tires so that helps....still. 32MPG mate....IDK. Tires play a role for sure. These new cars are often "overtired" lol...Tires are too wide to create better grip but it certainly doesn't help with MPG

This car is beautiful and roomy but I’ll stick with my 2021 Venza hybrid. My Venza gets about 43 mpg in the summer with about 13 K miles on the odometer.Turbo motors do not hold up well over time. My Subaru turbo crapped out at about 90K miles. With some spirited driving. I plan to keep my Venza for 200K + miles so I will stay with Toyota.

Good for you to keep your car for more than 200k. I cannot stand driving same car for more than 30k or 3 years. Luckily lease rates have been good for the past 20 years or so.

The Tucson Hybrid is the better vehicle. Better MPG, better handling and driving experience and based on my own experience and other reviews the Tucson honestly has as much if not better interior room and cargo space, other than a bit more width in the Santa Fe. It’s similar with the Venza compared to the RAV4 in that the extra length doesn’t really convert to better interior space and cargo room. The Santa Fe has more luxury on the top end and has a more conventional look inside and out, so that may appeal to some people. It is a nice vehicle as I’ve test driven it a few times, but the Tucson Hybrid just makes more sense overall when you start making the comparisons. Hyundai seems to have realized this and is pumping out more Tucson Hybrids than Santa Fes. I’ve seen Santa Fe hybrids sit on the lot for a long time, which should tell you something in this market. It’s a niche product.

Agree. However, most dealerships are indeed doing heavy markups on Tuscons while SantaFes can be had for MSRP.
