We’re ordering the Santa Fe SLE hybrid today. I like how much more legroom it has versus the Tucson. We have a RAV4 and the gas mileage is dismal. While the mpg in the Santa Fe may not be better than the other hybrids you mentioned, it is better than what we get now. If you want more cargo, go with the Tucson. If more seating space, then the Santa Fe. Thanks for the review.
@Biker_Benggy2 ай бұрын
For a family of 5, the Santa Fe is a better choice, especially considering the space in the second row. The Tucson has a peculiar flaw: there is not enough foot space for the middle passenger in the second row. Yes, it is that small. I wear size 43 and I couldn’t fit my feet in that tiny space. Both cars are underrated and real gems though! Great review 🎉

US 2022 SF Hybrid Blue here. Want to add a couple thoughts to this review. First, my city mileage is 36-38 mpg. I know Hyundai's advertised number is lower. Second, the internal hauling capacity on this compared to the redesigned Tucson isn't close. It's longer, wider, and taller than the Tucson. The net effect of what you can pack inside is substantially more than the Tucson. I measured both with actual cargo at the dealer before choosing the Santa Fe.

Thanks for the great review. The bloopers are HILARIOUS!! About the Hyundai, as a 58 year old, I agree that the demographic for the Santa Fe is aimed at an older more traditional buyer, but as one of those buyers --- I like the switches, buttons, and the styling. I like the chrome trim - I am definitely not one for the horrendous "murdered out" all-black trim and wheels that's so prevalent today. Hyundai NAILED it with this hybrid Santa Fe.

I'm a 69 yo retiree in NY . No more commuting or long trips , except to visit Grandkids 2x a month at 250 miles to and from.... The Hybrid, which I have never had, seems to make the most sense. So , with currently driving a 2019 MDX Advance, leased to June 2022 (I probably trade this car in and still have "equity" with only 18K on the clock in excellent condition), I'm wrestling with some SUVs to go with: This Santa Fe , the 2021 Sorento SX (non- Hybrid & Hybrid [are you sure that the Hybrid Sorento does not come with HTRAC?), the 2021 Tuscon and maybe a new Blazer(?). I don't need a 3rd Row (I don't know why people and Reviewers make such a "thing" about 3rd Row seating ...do people really use that feature aon any real regular basis?), you guys seem that you REALLY like the Tuscon better, Am I Correct? In the US the Sorento hybrid comes ONLY with FWD. The forthcoming PHEV Sorento will have AWD. As far as the 3rd row seating is concerned, my family of four (2 adults, a teenage daughter, and a big dog) deploy the 3rd row in our Sorento rarely. But when we transport a gaggle of teenage girls or need seating for more than 5 passengers on a local outing it's a HUGE convenience compared to using two vehicles.

At 6:22 you say that the smaller Tucson has more cargo space, but in the U.S. anyway, that's not the case. The Tucson has 31 cu ft with 2nd row up, and 61.9 cu ft with 2nd row down. The Santa Fe numbers are 36.4 and 72 cu ft respectively. Did you mean to say that the *square* footage is more, i.e. the distance from the tailgate to the back of the 2nd row seats is greater in the Tucson? I honestly wish someone would report square footage, because I don't stack stuff up to the ceiling, so I'd rather have more square footage than cubic feet. Thanks for the informative reviews!

The California Stat of 20% of Electric car owners, went back to gasoline or regular Hybrid vehicles is very interesting. I'm resistant to all Electric cars , even though a startling stat I heard yesterday is mesmerizing: The new Ford All Electric Pick Up Truck just announced that Ford has 20,000 Orders already !!. Even Plug In Hybrids, require Plug In stations in your house, and with numerous Brown outs and Black outs we experience in NY (Westchester County), makes me resistant to consider... Plug in Hybrids don't need a special plug in station in your home. Just a standard 120V outlet. The car will come with an AC adapter that is basically an overgrown version of what you get with a laptop computer. Generally speaking a full charge on 120V will take 8 hours, so as you sleep overnight. So I really don't understand the people who never plug them in, unless they live in an apartment complex where you can't have the charger strung out. In which case, they really should have bought a regular hybrid instead. An additional note... even full EV's don't *require* anything more than a 120V outlet, but the charge time gets really silly unless you have a L2 charger. Refitting a decently modern house to accommodate a 240V L2 charger isn't actually a big deal, since it's usually just adding one more outlet and circuit breaker to the house. Older houses? That's a whole different story.

Both the Tucson and Santa Fe are both great cars. It is a shame that the Santa Fe does not come in the Limited trim. Since the Venza does not come in a PHEV version, they are two of the few PHEV vehicles to choose from in Canada.

You don’t have to plug in a PHEV to take advantage of the hybrid system. It will still charge driving around.

Something is not quite right, fuel economy is 7.1L/100km city and 7.7L/100km highway, does it mean it's more efficient in city as compared to highway?
@Motormouth...3 жыл бұрын
Yes, more efficient in the city.

Hybrids always have better fuel economy in the city.

Very few reviewers comment on whether the second row is on tracks and slides for- aft in 2 row SUVs. I looked at the blue version of the Santa Fe hybrid a few weeks ago in the US and it did, and when folded down was totally flat . Today I’m going to see a Tucson hybrid and measure that out as well. I’m a retired senior , vaccinated, and ready to travel. I wish the Venza was larger inside than the RAV4, similar to the Santa Fe, or that the new Sienna had removable second row seats. In addition, am I the only one who hates panoramic sunroofs?

I dislike them too but it’s a case of if you cant beat them, join them.
@whoanelly-3 жыл бұрын
@@eulie717 I really hate them too. I liked the "urban" package the gas only engine gives you and was hoping you could do the same with either hybrid. Seems they are forcing the trend package on consumers that gives you the roof. I dont want that much glass over my head.

@dygardion91303 жыл бұрын
I totally get the regular transmission but honestly I only noticed my cvt hybrid when I punch it and that’s not often especially when music is up But also only 6 speed?? Seems lagging in gears compared to non hybrids but a plethora of gears compared to a cvt lol

With Kia/Hyandai redesigning model's every 2-3 years I'd imagine it would be more difficult to get parts on these in 5-10 years (especially aftermarket). Also curious how long term reliability will be on these. Low resale value currently would say not great but only time will tell with these new models.

Tucson hybrid for me. Gad mileage is what makes that decision.

Hyundai making it hard to ignore. Trying to decide whether to go EV or hybrid, buy now or wait for new EV advancements. Traditional higher end products like Lexus, middle range like Toyota, etc. I want good mileage and comfort. Won't buy Tesla Model Y because of the screen only display and controls. And their quality sucks. Fortunately I have 2 well working cars and can wait for the right option to come along.

Another great (and timely) video from Andrea and Zack - thanks guys! 👍 A couple of weeks ago I reserved a 2022 Tucson Ultimate Hybrid that's forecasted to arrive at my local Hyundai dealer in early June. After reserving the Tucson I began wondering if I should have gone for the Santa Fe Luxury Hybrid instead. After watching this video I'm convinced now the Tucson Ultimate Hybrid is the right way to go. The decision would be more difficult if Hyundai Canada were to offer a loaded "Ultimate" version of the Santa Fe Hybrid. I'm guessing the Ultimate Hybrid model will be offered on the 2022 model-year Santa Fe.

Congratulations on your new Tucson Hybrid! I think when Hyundai fixes its trims on the Santa Fe Hybrid, it will be a more difficult choice, but you made the right one with the Tucson Hybrid, it has way more options. Thanks for watching!

@@andreaspencer9813 Thanks Andrea, I agree with you 100% re the trims on the Santa Fe Hybrid. By the way, the Tucson Ultimate Hybrid I have reserved is finished in Amazon Grey with a two-tone Black/Light Grey interior - the identical vehicle to the one you guys reviewed. 😀

@@richardb9591 I think that light grey interior is beautiful and great exterior colour too. Sometimes it looks green and other times grey which is kind of nice. Enjoy it! I would buy one in a second, that is how good it is.

Hi Richard did you get yours yet? We are thinking about the Tucson but would like to know what a realistic expectation is for wait times.
@richardb95913 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric - Yes, I took delivery of my/our '22 Tucson Ultimate Hybrid on June 12th. My wife and I love it! I reserved our Tucson at a local Hyundai dealer after the vehicle had already been built and was on the way, so I didn't have to wait very long to get it. If you were to order a Tucson Hybrid, I suspect a realistic expectation for wait time would be 10-12 weeks. Good luck on all fronts.

When you folks do the fuel economy and convert to miles per gallon, are you using U.S. gallons or the imperial gallons Canada used in the 1970s?

Canada is litres, the MPG is for US viewers.
