Wow these comments. What are you guys smoking? This car is an absolute BARGAIN. You would have to spend 40-45k for an Q3 or X1 to get all of the features that this thing gets standard for 32k. You can save even more and get the base engine which is enough power for most peoples needs. Then there are people saying why would you get this over a CX5? Maybe because it is 4K cheaper, has a nicer interior, is lighter, has better handling, better acceleration, and better efficiency.
@yordan826
@yordan826 3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you and I expressed the same opinion on a CX-5 review, I would definitely get this over the CX-5 and the difference is not actually 4k if you compare the same trim is a little more, the CX-30 turbo fully loaded is 35k but the CX-5 also fully loaded with the AWD system (which comes standard in the turbo CX-30) is a little over 40k, so yeah.
@Digitalfiendscom
@Digitalfiendscom 3 жыл бұрын
I got the CX-5 instead. I really dislike the massive plastic fenders on the CX-30; the rear seats and trunk are a bit cramped compared to the CX-5; and the interior on our CX-5 Signature is great. Nothing wrong with the CX-30, but there are trade-offs. You can’t go wrong with either one.

Just purchased a 2022 CPO Turbo Premium. After filling up twice with Sunoco 94 octane, I put it throgh its paces. 0-60 in 5.76 seconds. The car has only 2,460 miles so I expect that might get better as it breaks in. I then took it upstate NY on Route 6. A six mile stretch downhill of a winding mountainous road. Some areas speed limit drops down to 35 MPH. In sport mode, I never dropped below 65 & as high as 80. As the vehicle leaned into the turns, I felt the powertrain favoring one wheel then another as it fought against gravity. It felt & sounded like a German luxury sports car with no turbo lag. Stability was true & solid. A real thrill! On parkway coming home at a steady 80 MPH it was quiet as a church. The Adaptive Headlights along with the auto-highbeams at night is amazing. Everywhere I went the road lit up like Yankee Stadium during a night game. Should be mandatory. Would save many lives. The Bose sound is real quality however I would of liked a sub-woofer volume button. For the money, you can't beat her!!!

Love the dash design of the current generation of Mazdas. Classy looking analogue dials and tactile buttons, instead of distracting, finger smudged, multiple menus touchscreens.
@BoopSnoot
@BoopSnoot 3 жыл бұрын
Mazdas screens are too recessed for average female height, too widescreen (not good for Waze), and its NEVER a good idea to remove options from users. The best systems are those that allow you to use controls on the steering wheel or center console, but also just let you touch the screen as well if desired. The uConnect 5 on the Durango is by far the best system I've tested to date. Mercedes is the best looking, but too complicated, and the Mazda is much too basic and small.
@BoopSnoot
@BoopSnoot 3 жыл бұрын
Also, digital dashes are the future, and analog gauges are on their way out as they just aren't as configurable for obvious reasons. Even cheap cars like the Jetta have them now. Mazda may be so laser focused on driving dynamics that they've dropped the ball on tech.

@@BoopSnoot My point isn't to remove options from drivers. I'm not anti-touchscreens, I just don't like to see all the controls being put on touchscreens. Touchscreens have their place for some functions, like GPS, some vehicle settings etc. So, it's not a case of either/or. My first point is that,, analogue dials look nice and classier for functions like the speedo, tacho, fuel etc. Second point, what happens when in a vehicle that has most (if not all) of its main controls on one screen (as in Tesla Model 3) and the screen fails? How are you going to operate the car then? Third point, buttons, knobs, switches and controllers are tactile, easier and safer to operate. You don't have to take your off the road to make sure you are hitting the right icon, as you do with touchscreens. Nor do you need to go through multiple menus to get some functions. So at least for those often used functions, a few short-cut buttons are definitely welcome as far as I'm concerned. I do agree with steering controls point. That is a good idea, but with controls as buttons, not the touch things, which some makers seem to be going with

Hey from PEI Canada! Thanks for the great review. I pick up my 2021 CX-30 GT AWD Turbo today. Excited! I liked the machine grey metallic so much that I bought it. What I didn't like; the non turbo version engine noise, the distortion in the front windshield on both versions, I can't place my golf clubs across the trunk, the speed limit not changing on the heads up display and chiming because it hadn't switched from the last lower school zone speed limit. What I loved; the little details like the position of the cup holders, the power seats/lumbar support/heated seats (I would have paid for cooling seats too), the power option of turbo that makes me smile with it's instant gratification of a younger version of myself, it's handling and composure if you push the thing, it looks beautiful no matter what color you choose (Kudos Mazda...or should I say Kodo), I really don't mind making the infotainment adjustments before I drive because small adjustments can still be made once I set off using the knob, this thing looks as great on the inside with it's browns and blacks as it does on the outside, parking the CX-30 is a breeze and I love the alerts and back up camera, the clearance for obstacles, it's easy to get in/out of and load cargo with a tired Veteran's body, the headlights turn into the corner to show you more of what's around that turn, I do not mind that I have to use the control knob on the console and that the screen is non touch-screen, I'm 5'-6" and 150 lbs so this vehicle is perfectly Smurf sized to fit me. I just turned 50 this month. So for my next midlife crisis purchase I will be buying those beautiful five star rims that Mazda sells in machine grey when spring rolls around. Cheers!

This seems like a big improvement over the first gen CX-30. Great job Mazda! As far as putting this engine in the Miata, that would be great, but ask Coleman if it would actually fit the current ND Miata. I suspect they would really have to get creative to shoehorn this engine into that vehicle, but I’m always hopeful that they find a way.

Very much appreciate having Coleman on this. It's great hearing the engineering behind the product. My only knocks against this car are the IMO excessive cladding and the need for a Signature trim that would make it a true competitor to the luxury brands. It's a very compelling package as it, but, with just a little more work, it would be outstanding.

We just got one of these. I'm totally going to send this to my brother-in-law, a die-hard Land Rover guy. It'll drive him him crazy :) Regarding "techno-nannies", be sure to check your insurance rates first. That's because some "nannies" have proven to prevent some accidents, resulting in lower insurance claims, so even though the car may cost more up front, the cost of ownership over the years may actually end up less.

I recently bought the CX-30 in the UK. I got the second highest spec with the 2L Sky Active X engine and its brilliant. I was looking at Mercedes A Class, A3 and similar things like that and I just couldn’t move away from the spec on the mazda, nothing came close. It is super comfy and has everything you need for not much money. My only gripe is the length. If it was slightly longer it would be great. Boot space isn’t really any different to the aforementioned cars and the space in the back isn’t great for anyone over 5ft 10 but for me (6ft 1) up front it is spacious width ways. People moan about the power but its fine and I don’t get why people moan about the speed. You don’t need, nor are you buying, a speed demon for this price. The handling on this thing is phenomenal though, can really chuck it around. No doubt the other Mazda is just as good. Go and sit in some and drive to try see whats best but Mazda have nailed the CX30

I owned both the 1st and 2nd gen 6 and the 3rd, current gen on skyactiv platform is even better. However, it has been on the market for over 8yrs and we all know the next, 4th gen on a brand new RWD platform with inline 6 cylinder compression ignition engine(i.e. skyactiv-x tech) will debut within the next 18mths. So I wouldn't invest in any new Mazda6 right now...even the cool carbon edition.

Agreed the mx5 has been in need of a powerful engine for very long! I am thinking a lot about which cars are reliable and properly build which you would dare to buy new, for me that is either Mazda, Honda or Toyota. Mazda hasn’t got the model yet that would fit for me. Don’t like baby-buggies, need something of a BMW 5 series size preferably an all-road/cross country 4 wheel drive like the ones Audi/Volvo and Mercedes build, preferably with a 6 cylinder petrol. Mazda can do it, the designs of especially the concept cars are amazing! I love that Coleman takes the factory cars off-road and takes the effort to make them work 👍🏼 we need more engineers that do that

A low rev-ing turbo with a diesel-like torque curve out of an SUV doesn't belong in a sports car. A Mazda version of Honda's FC20 displacing 2.5L and with a 9k redline would be a better idea. But then, the Miata becomes something else other than what it traditionally has been.

I found that I rarely used the sunroof in cars I've had with them, but I listen to music every time I drive. Yes, I'm a sunroof guy, so a bit biased but here's a stab in the dark as to why: Resale. Cars with Sunroofs are valued higher and if two of the same car are sitting on the same lot, the buyer always chooses the car with the sunroof. Same cannot be said about ANY audio system.

Advantage of primitive suspension, is ease of performance add-on. Comparatively, the more complicated Kona system (designed by Magna on multi-link rear suspension) does well in extreme snow and doesn't need traction control to be safe (assuming capable driver). If Hyundai AWD system can handle the 'N' power...it'd make for a great comparison...however, stupid buyers think bigger is better.

Hi Motoman I have a qeustion i thought it would be nice if u did that q&a thing u did in the past where we can ask qeustions/observations to coleman cause i got several. 1- one of a most heard complaint about mazda is that intterieur packaging is terrible why doesnt mazda do something about that ? if u are going to make a sleek design and sacrafice space for looks atleast try to get the most out of the available space u have! look at the luxe germans bigger cars with rwd they make the dashboard as slim as possible so it doesnt stick out to much in the interiuer ergo everythign can be placed more forward and u have more space combine that with thin seats like volvo does and u have a very useable interieur space. I have noticed that in the new mazda 3 range so hatch sedan and cx30 the dashboard sticks out to much in the interieur and the seat back also are kinda of thick despite the cutout. I would suggest to do something about that with model year update or facelift i know the mazda 3 sales arent doing well added space might help with better sales. also maybe do someting about about the suspension make it softer atleast in the rear to compensate for that damned torsion beam if u go over a a speed bump u will know what i mean... 2- why isnt there a signature trim for the mazda 3 range ???? in the netherlands where i live all the mazda models have an signature trim at the top of the range even the b segment mazda 2 and cx 3 but not the mazda 3 range wich tops out at the luxury trim strange... to come back to the ridiculous 4 grand extra for the plus package u mention at the end of the video i think if u made that trim as a signature with nappa leather all that fance stuf that price i think would be more justified. 3- why wont mazda update the auto transmission in terms of speed of shifting i know the auto shifts 0,4 seconds slower then the manuell transmission its not hard to do there are tunening companys that offer software to do just that makeing the auto a nicer to drive with. also do something about the flippers they shift slower. 4- pannoroof or glass roof for the 3 range get more light in the dark intirieur and have more head room (much heard complaint for the 3) win win. 5- adding feateres that are avalable in the luxury segment and not the whitegoods cars to give it a more luxe feel forexample add ventilated seats in the 3 range with heated and cooled cupholders like mercedes does and heated/ventilated seats in the back also quad zone climate zone rear airvents heated/cooled cupholders rear rear sunshades usb ports..heres a couple and u could offer them all in a signature trim. could justify the higher price. 6- how about a 2 plus 2 configuration in the mazda3 just like the kai concept 7- how about adding the clubsport trim to the mazda 3 range just like the mx 5 billstein dampers,brembo brakes,bbs rims,recaro seats front and rear 2 plus 2 configuration add the steering wheel out of the mx5 and gear selector would be cool. not a qeustion but i always wonderd why mazda didnt offer the frameless door windows like on the kaiconcept i think this would really set it appart. I am probally just talking to myself here but motoman please pass these on to mr coleman maybe they will listen to him. I am not critisizing or anything i just want mazda to succeed and do better they are the last car manufacturer that i stil like. They want to play with the big boys like they are saying they want they gotta go all in and not cheap out instead of not adding something just to keep the price down just add it price increase and all if not u will just get shit on by so called car journallist to complain about it. Also sorry for my bad english Kind regards Nemo

Hey Nemo! Thanks for the good feedback. Can answer the point about the Signature trim. Simple answer: Cost. This one we drove was already US$36,000 . . . Signature would bring too close to US$40,000. Kind of the same answer to the frameless doors. As for Q&A, you will see that make a return is a slight different form shortly. Thanks for watching!

Turbo is overkill (IMO), guts MPG, & creates a significant new potential failure/problem point for the engine. I test drove both & was perfectly happy with a 2022 CX-30 CE-Preferred (standard 2.5L non-turbo engine) instead. Great little Crossover - easily the best in its price range segment & then some. Also, zero issues/problems to report after one year thus far.

Per your suggestion, I’m a expat in Cancun Mexico. Needed a new car , wanted a CX-30 . Saw in my news feed we have now a 2.5 turbo model. Goodie , let’s go see . The Mazda store had two in the showroom. We don’t have the five levels of trim here . We have a El cheap o and a Turbo AWD , Touring model . That was the one we liked. They can have us one in 30 days . How much ? $27500.out the door . No extras are permitted in Mexico. That’s still $556,000 Mexico pesos so it’s not cheap . We picked it up last Week. Been raining all week , so we have kept it home and drove the old RAV4 since then but a road trip is in our future. We kinda got your wish . I don’t need 12 speakers , 360 degrees camera, heated seats , blah blah . I got turbo

I'm not sure why you're so surprised by the cost of accessories. Toyota and Honda do the same, and sometimes even more expensive, plus these two brands are not trying to go upmarket like the Mazda. You expect all season floor mats for free, just because it has AWD? It would be nice, but from a business standpoint does not make sense. The one area where they cut cost is certainly rear suspension, interior volume, and mediocre tires. I would pay extra and get the CX5 base turbo trim.

How do you compare cx-30 to the the Cx-5 turbo which is on my shortlist this year?
@BoopSnoot
@BoopSnoot 3 жыл бұрын
You should probably ask yourself first what your goals are. Will a CX-5 turbo fit in your garage? If so, its not that much heavier, maybe 250lbs max, it will have a longer wheelbase that helps ride quality without sacrifice, and it will have more interior room. In a drag race, you aren't likely to notice any difference between the two, so you have to ask why you want the smaller vehicle and if it makes sense to make those sacrifices if the price isn't that much different either.

I just bought one--and plus it has 320 lbs of torque down low.I paid 35k out the door for one that 6k miles on it.Car prices are high right now--just sold my stinger for way more then I paid for it.So I own this CX-30 outright and was able to pocket several thousands of dollars.I rent Q3 on business trips and this Mazda is at least equal with that and is easily 10 to 15k less.This Mazda feels faster because of the torqu down low.These little performance CUVs are the way to go.They are as fast as sports cars were a generation ago and have modern features and you can even go offroad.I owned a Mustang 5.0 in the early 90s and this CX-30 would eat thats cars lunch in every aspect--so when you put things in perspective--this is a fantastic value.BTW toyota 86 and new civics--subraru imprezas and even a golf GTI is in this price range.This mazda is a combination of all those cars and can go offroad--btw they dragged the AWD Turbo mazda 3 and it beat a new GTI in the quarter mile--and this thing is within .1 of that==so this has better performance then a GTI.My neighbor has an X1--a 2020 and my CX-30 is better in every way--looks performance and was 7k less then the bimmer. My Brother has a new honda HRV and there is no comparison.He even asked me today why I get cars with performance--I told him wait till he drives it in the next few days.

Every car design involves compromise. My leased ‘21 CX30turbo ticks enough boxes to make it a satisfying all rounder for me here in Miami. 15:01 Likes: Style, quality build, torque and speed, and excellent driver position/front seat comfort. Dislikes: mediocre fuel economy, choppy ride on uneven pavement, poor outward visibility and excessive centerline steering sensitivity at highway speeds. Overall for my needs, it’s a great little whip. If you need more interior space, get a CX5. Again compromises.

Radar cruise + lane keep should just be standard equipment. Make the 360 camera and radar parking doodads each an option. And, I don't know if that's the case on this car, but can we get away from having optional forward lighting? You shouldn't have to pony up big bucks to have headlights that don't suck. Screaming value? If it stickers for a single dollar more than the Mazda 3 turbo, its not a value at all. The 3 is slightly faster, handles better...and heres the truly "shocking part"...has nearly 2 cubic feet more cargo space with the rear seats folded. Literally the only thing you're getting with CX 30 is slightly higher ride height, a little more rear seat headroom and of course those gawdawful plastic wheel spats. Lol
@steve9377
@steve9377 3 жыл бұрын
People value things differently. Some people don't care if the Mazda3 is slightly faster or handles better. Some people value the higher ride height, more headroom and being able to take it on a light trail. Funny thing is Autoblog did a cargo capacity test on the Mazda3 Hatchback vs. CX-30 and the CX-30 was able to carry more despite having slightly less cargo volume. The CX-30 had more usable space.
@felixli5279
@felixli5279 3 жыл бұрын
Re the rated cargo volume of 3 vs cx30, it's often about the shape of the cargo area rather than the absolute volume measurement. That's why people often hv the perception of suv/cuv having more cargo space than their lower-height hatchback car equivalents despite actual volumetric measurements say otherwise.
