The 2022 BMW 740i Is A Large Luxury Sedan!!

This week I drove and reviewed a 2022 BMW 740i, the most affordable engine trim of BMW's flagship 7 Series model!! To call this large and swooping sedan anything but a 'lofty land-yacht' would be criminal... its got plenty of space inside. Beyond that, it also features a standard air suspension, that's able to iron out some of even the worst kinks in the road.
The standard goodies continue with a solid safety suite, soft close doors, ambient lighting, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and of course BMW's latest and greatest iDrive 7!
All of that, and this particular cars optional M Sport and Premium Package's... for less than $95k as equipped! An affordable flagship sedan, and not too slow either.
The 740i perfectly balances chassis and powertrain, finding harmony between a docile demeanor and capable yet understated B58 power-plant. There isn't much else to say, go check the 740i out for yourself... they notoriously lease well!!

It’s nice to have a young reviewer who can really see cars from laymen’s standpoint. I like to have vigorously sporty cars, and I do own a Cayman, which is really enjoyable,but trust me when comes to long term ownership , long distance trip comfort and resale value , it’s simply about what you needed most. Ordinary people just don’t floor the thrust that often. Last but not least, I own the 2021 X5 40i and previously a 435i, and I have to say bimmer I6 is a understated gem of modern combustion engine. Thanks a lot and I’ve already subscribed.

I disabled the annoying gesture control on my 750i, and I almost never use the useless expensive seat massage or ventilation. I also do not find the executive drive pro option worth the steep price. Curtains make you unable to clearly see with rear view mirror. I keep them always off. I have all options in my car except rear seat stuff. The best options in my opinion are: 1- The Technology pack (headup display + parking assistant + lane assistant etc) 2- The integral active steering (rear steering at 3 degrees), making turning circle the same as the smaller 5-series. 3- Laser lights. The high beam floods half a mile ahead of you with daylight like clarity, and does not turn off even if there were nearby cars oncoming or ahead (it cleverly shields them from the floodlights) I wouldn’t bother about any other options.

I appreciate your thorough explanation. The Laser lights are definitely high on my list for the same "daylight like clarity" you mentioned. The beauty of the 7 series is that it even offers many of these features... that you'd otherwise find in only the upper most echelon of luxury sedans (RR and Bentley)

You stated more nuance than I can list here but that’s no necessary. You continue to raise the bar and look at special automobiles in a less analytic way where other reviewers often rely on spec sheets. It’s clear that you know the European luxury segment so intimately well. I couldn’t help wonder what was going on when you mentioned being in back seat of that BMW the night before lol. My imagination envisioned you with leggy blondes popping champagne and sitting under the stars like rock stars! Hahahaha - that was entertaining to me for some reason. Hello I have a BMW g30 540i xdirve, I want to buy a g12 740i xdrive, there is only one thing I'm afraid of, I can't get that speed, agility, driving dynamics from the 740, what advice would you give?

Sounds like you want an M550i!! Nicer and faster version of your car for less money than a 740i! But the 7 series gives you a decent luxury/comfort advantage over the 5er that's more than the loss it takes in agility or sportiness

You could consider the BMW 750i - Luxury/comfort and sporty performance. 523hp V-8. Best of both worlds.

If you were paying attention, it's $86k starting... and I said affordable for a "flagship" - where many larger engine offerings easily break into the high $100k range 🙄
