I ride Panigale V4 SP (same engine) with dry clutch. So I perfectly understand your impressions. And I very much agree this is NOT coffee racer. You are disappointed because you have not ridden it as it is meant to be ridden and you have used it for 10 min ride between traffic lights. And again, I absolutely agree. This kind of ride is BIG PAIN with these bikes. The dry clutch pressing feels like workout, bike gets too hot and its maneuverability is very poor. You showed us what NOT TO DO with it. And maybe it is good thing for many people who think otherwise. And I suspect your bike was still in the engine break-in mode, because yellow and red rpm range began VERY EARLY on your video. During break-in period quick shifter SHOULD BE DISABLED according to the user guide. Foot pegs are adjustable on SP versions. So, if you had had more time, you would have been able to change the ergonomics. I love sound of dry clutch every time I start the bike. My quick shifter works fine and semi active suspension with whole Ducati electronics package is a treat. Carbon wheels together with amazing look and feel appeal to me a lot. And of course, this bike needs to ridden out of town at higher speeds to fully appreciate its potential. And there is new SP2 version available already for 2023 to be compared with BMW 2023 model.

I think everyone is verbalising my thoughts. I have a V4S and love it (Im 64 years old and 6'3 tall). Most, if not all your dislikes are aimed at the bike's essential DNA. Of course you're going to be sat forward with high pegs, of course you're going to feel the wind and so on. I see you as a kind of guru, but on this review you miss the point completely. Also again, please incorporate some twisties - they are the most fun and tell you a lot about the bike.

Respectfully, Bro, this was a very poor review of the SP. “This bike is not meant to be ridden casually on the street...” and yet, that is exactly how you have reviewed it. You seemed to spend way too much time on the quick shifter (suggest you change the video title to “Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP Quick Shifter”) and then went on to comment how great the brakes were while evaluating them while riding.... in the city. And you didn’t even know what Riding Mode you were in or take the time to ask how to select the different modes? Lugging the engine and complaining about it pulsing? Spending time evaluating how it maneuvers in a parking lot while reminding us of how you can do it blindfolded? Seriously, this review appears to have been very hastily done and not up to what I thought were MJ standards.

@@spartanx169x Isn't that the case with most powerful (sport) bikes? I mean, unless you're going trackdays you're not getting the most out of it without breaking at least a few laws and driving dangerously. And even on trackdays most people would probably still not use all of it. As soon as your bike has a top speed of about 200 km/h + there's a good chance you're not getting everything out of it, and there's nothing wrong with that.

As a rider of a Panigale 1299s, I usually really like your videos but you seem to miss the point of this bike completely. It’s a flat barred race bike for the road in no way comparable to a GS for example and you are a guy who rides sensible bikes which is great. The technology in this bike is incredible and yet you say ‘I don’t know what mode I’m in’ really quite dismissively but it matters what mode you’re in because it changes how the bike rides hugely. I wouldn’t believe for a second that you find this bike relevant for the road and this review confirms it. Again, I normally like your videos but not this one. Keep ‘em coming.

Most younger riders don't get what a Ducati is made for. Seems like they ride it for an hour then just look at the price tag and complain how their left hand, and lower back hurts. I have a 998, and a 4Vs Speciale and am very familiar with the 1098 and a few other Ducati models. Ducati's are definitely not the most comfortable to ride. You get used to the heavy clutch after riding one for a while... All Ducati's are a chore in town because they are much happier past 4K RPM and always kept moving. After 4K, they just sing, but are very loud with a full race exhaust. Ducati's look and sound good at any speed. Riding modes definitley change the feel of the bike. I also ride an R1 and KTM 1290 Super Duke R. If I want a more comfortable bike, I'll take the KTM. If I want a scalpel and not a butter knife, I'll take a Ducati. R1 is used primarily for the track if I want to push past my comfort zone and don't want to wreck a Ducati, but a Ducati is preferred. Ducati's have a purpose and is far from a multi-tool pocket knife... it's definitely not for everyone.

It's a Ducati and an SP to boot. It's track biased so take it on the track where it belongs and then try and comment. The dry clutch clatter is part of a Ducati's character and as for trying to tide the bike on idle, who does that? As a current employee of Ducati, and owning superbikes from BMW (s1000r, R nine T), Ducati (v4, streetfighter v4, 1299), and Yamaha (r1), its a shame you thought this about the bike! But everyone can have their opinion! The benefit of the great USA. Being this is the first video I have watched from you, I don't know if it would be worth while watching anything else knowing you didn't even try switching modes, using the electronic suspension, looking at EBC adjustments (state of the art), using the bike past 10k rpm, enjoying the benefits of dry clutch (which is pretty hard to do unless you are on the track), testing wheelie control (state of the art electronic strategy there as well), opening it up out of 3rd gear (1-3rd is restricted due to unmanageable amounts of power at low gear ratios), throttle strategies, braking strategies (state of the art again, btw), anything in the new 6D-IMU or DTC, or reviewing the user interface. I don't want bias getting in the way when watching reviews, especially from someone who reviews! There is no "one perfect bike" but I get a feeling you would never know one if you rode a 35k supernaked with highest power to weight in its class with the best electronic package on the market like it was a f800gs.

You don’t have to read the manual and I find it hard to believe that with your experience and ability, you wouldn’t already know how to toggle through some modes to compare them. That was the review we really needed, not to mention hitting some twisties. You putted the beast around the city FFS, not at all what the bike is intended for or good at. It seemed like you had already decided you don’t like it before you rode it. I HATE when someone is going to do a review on an ultra specific, super expensive motorcycle and does ZERO research before hand and simply starts commenting negatively about their experience. 1. The SP is specifically designed for the RACE TRACK...so yeah, it should feel like a sportbike.?? What would you expect it to feel like??? 2. You say the rearsets are super high...its pre-owned bike and the rearsets on an SP are completely adjustable, so you need to check where they are at....you can adjust them to pretty much anywhere you want. (and verify if the previous owner didnt have them set at highest spot) 3. It kicks when you are letting out the clutch and not giving it throttle LITERALLY because its a dry clutch, they are more snappy than a wet clutch because there is ZERO lubrication in the clutch pack...as you can obviously hear....its made for the track so that should be expected (you probably should know that before you complain about it so many times). 4. To complain about throttle response and all the rest, then compare it to another bike that you straight up say "has electronics setup to act a certain way" and in that same sentence say how you have ignored ALL the electronic settings available to you to alleviate EXACTLY what you are complaining about and say you have zero clue as to what mode the bike you are on is even in????? like WTF over???? If you are going to do a 20-30 minute review for your 350 THOUSAND subscribers, MAYBE do a little due diligence beforehand to give an actual educated review??? Know a tiny bit about what you SHOULD EXPECT of the bike before complaining about it being EXACTLY what its designed to be??? I mean watching and listening to you, I was waiting for you to say that the bike doesnt have enough storage either....

At 4:50, you say that taking off is not smooth. The problem is you. You are just not used to this bike. A few more hours or days and you would know how to smoothly take off. The quickshifter issue you had around 12:45 is probably your fault as well. It happened once on mine and it was my fault, I was accelerating and at the exact moment I upshifted I slightly released the throttle and the electronic locked the up shifting. Whenever I take the highway I accelerate hard and never had any issues. At 15:15 you say it’s fast but you are not afraid. 2 things in which mode were you? 2nd, at no time during this video you were aggressive with this bike. You always slowly reved it. Regarding choosing the BMW vs the Ducati: ask Scott Redding… He was pretty disappointed when he first test rode the BWM coming from the Panigale V4. Last note: the dry clutch for an expensive bike: it’s a piece of Ducati history! You don’t like it, then buy the V4 or the V4S that do not come with it, which is a big disappointment for afficionados of the Ducati V2 Desmo

Not a fair review and title, IMO. You should have played with the riding modes. Each riding mode (street, sport and race) has different throttle mapping, suspension behaviour and quickshifter strategy. Even more, those modes are fully customizable by themselves, and who knows what settings the previous owner had them set to. Seems you kept the bike in street mode, which limits the power to 150 hp-ish and d umbed everything down, that's why you felt disappointed with the bike when you went a bit harder. I think you did both you and the bike a disservice by not playing with the riding modes to see how powerful they are, and how perfect you can tailor the bike to your riding style. I was really expecting you to play a bit with stuff like the "brake support" settings on the electronic suspension and see what a difference it makes and how cool it is.

Why would you ever hold a clutch at a stoplight? It's not at all comfortable and also you're adding extra wear to the parts. I get that you hold that maybe untill the first cars are stopping behind you so you make sure that you're protected form behind but why more? Hands on the lever left leg on the shifter, be ready to leave if you have to check the mirrors with the periferial sight (or how would you name that ) if you want to play it mega safe. But there is no reason to keep the clutch squeezed at the lights.

Your second-to-third attempted shift didn’t complete because you were not on the throttle enough. You can still upshift (for example when slowing from a high speed run) using the clutch. The dry clutch has improved slipper clutch behavior over that of a standard clutch. I love the sound (you can hear it on right turns on track), but the bike ships with both clutch covers so you can choose. Regarding the throttle response and low-speed operation, the bike is highly customizable, and the factory throttle mapping is specific to each gear. The SP is aimed at people who want to use it on track and everything about it-rearset height, forward pitch, clutch feel and behavior, suspension internals, and suspension programming-are biased toward track use. If you rode that bike back to back with the Streetfighter 4S, you would feel the difference. People interested in the bike should watch the recent SP2 launch video and read the Ducati online information about the design philosophy and specifics.

Welp I own an SP, full exhaust and tuned and the bike is incredible. I don’t think you fully understand Ducati and a V4…it’s not an in-line 4 with the linear torque band, it punches you in the mouth…especially after a tune and exhaust. To compare this to a BMW rr is not apples to apples. I chose the Ducati for that exhaust note and evil looks, I just don’t use all 200+ hp …most people don’t.. but I have it. My only issue is the crazy expensive “parts” options and insanely expensive service, I do all the work myself after break in (s). If you don’t love the noise I’d recommend someone purchasing a Japanese bike…not a Euro. Face it they just do it better and cheaper

Awesome around the Welsh mountain roads using sport mode (dynamic suspension) and full power dynamic throttle. It’s a race bike with flat bars. If you flexed her sufficiently you might have learned the importance of all those riding modes and settings; when she did a backflip for you. My dedicated track bike has six figures in her, the forks alone run 15k and the brakes over 10k. All that, and on the track the SP still impressed me so much I put 1000 track miles or so on her this year. This review is unimpressive 👎🏻

Almost every comment, apart from the weight of the clutch and breaks are incorrect due to user error, misuse and inadequate setup. Your riding mode/ modes were set up all wrong and SP is set up for a completely different style of riding than was demonstrated here. If you were in street mode, at reduced power, with middle slide control and minimum anti wheelie, you would see your old BMW reincarnated but with a much better weight distribution. Also the bike is too slim for you- you would be miles better on a Multistrada Pikes Peak

When shifting up or down you should hold the gear selector until the bike is firmly in that gear. With a clutch you would hold the gear selector up or down with constant pressure until the clutch had been fully released and that will make sure you never find neutral when you don't want it or false neutral higher in the gearbox which will damage the transmission. With a quick shifter the technology actually prefers you to hold the gear selector until the bike is for sure in that gear. My 2018 Aprilia Tuono really prefers a hold compared to a flick, especially on the up it will make a smoother shift every time. Quick shifters can shift you into neutral or do what you experienced where it will cut the ignition not change the gear and nearly wheelie the bike, it totally can if you have the throttle open enough! Don't jerk your foot, don't flick it don't feel for a click, hold up or down and have a better shift every time!

Quick shifter is not automatic transmission... The quick shifter is able to unload the transmission by manipulating the ignition spark. When you lift up the lever to go up a gear, the quick shifter reduces the load on the drive train by temporarily stopping the ignition or cutting the fuel in the engine just enough for the new gear to slip into place.

How exactly does a quick shifter work? Is it like auto transmission in a car?
@WestCoastVisitor
@WestCoastVisitor Жыл бұрын
Apart from initially going into 1st gear to pull off you don't need to use the clutch, you can also stay on the throttle. The shifter automatically kills the ignition (some cut the fuel instead) for a split second to allow the gear change, many also blip the engine on downshift. You can hear that happening in the video.

@toshy
@toshy Жыл бұрын
A dry clutch provides some advantages over a wet clutch when used for racing, and the Ducati SP (Sport Production) bikes are meant to be ridden on track or in a way where a dry clutch is preferred over a wet one. The SP bikes, Panigale and Streetfighter, come track focused bits like the dry clutch, carbon fiber wheels, and a race-prepped suspension over the regular V4 versions which are designed more for street riding.

Clean engine oil, less slip, better cooling, easy access for switch between race springs and street, easy access for service (for race track), and it's not unusual, all manual cars have dry clutch but it's a single plate so that's why it doesn't rattle.

I'm a Ducati guy but personally wouldn't opt for a dry clutch - it gives up too much just to get the Ducati noise (at least for a street bike). Throttle response is adjustable (just like most things on that bike) so it can be softened. Also the juttering taking off at idle is pretty normal for everything except an I4... so if you prefer super smooth you'll probably prefer the I4 bikes like the S1000RR (it's the one thing I didn't like about the RR... feels sort of dull until you get over 8k). I personally found the earlier BMW quickshifters to be poor under anything except high power... though the 2021 RR I rode at VIR had a perfect QS so I think it's been dialed in. I also think QS's can be adjusted (though probably by the shop). I'll be shopping for a hypernaked in the spring... was just planning to jump into the SFv4s but the M1000R may have enough of a features (cruise, heated grips, more comfortable) advantage over the Duc that it will probably be a very hard choice.

Comparing a naked Panigale vs a BMW is a bit weird. Ducati comes from racing. BMW comes from touring. Different backgrounds. Different results. If you like easy and comfort, take a BMW. If you want to ride a bike which feels “alive”, take the Streetfighter. After many years being a BMW rider, a couple of years ago I switched to Ducati. Two different worlds. Not one better than the other. Simply different.

I don’t think it’s as weird of a comparison because the BMW he referenced is the s1000r. Both the v4 and s1kr are naked bikes which were derived from sport bike counterparts. In their base trims, they compete directly with each other. One thing that is skewed is the trim level of this Ducati is the highest you can buy while the comparable BMW M1000R was just announced. I’d love to see those two go head to head in the future.

I test rode a 2022 Ducati Street fighter V2 earlier this year. On open roads making progress it was sublime....very precise bike with great turn in. Bike stable in corners at pace. At end of road test I ended up riding on busy congested roads......Not a good bike for slow speed control....I had 2 choices of gear in town 1st & 1st. The bike bogged down & required lots of clutch feathering. I got back on my Hornet 599 afterwards and was happier on that...Sure it is not as sharp in bends & down on power by comparison....BUT my old Honda the far better all round bike. If I wanted a more sports focused bike for track & twistes I would look elsewhere..S1000R/RR...Fireblade etc. Basically something that can be ridden well at all speeds not just above 4k rpm. As far as visual appeal goes....the Streetfighter looks great. I have expensive shoes that look great but I can't walk far in them ! I am not anti Ducati btw 🙂

Very honest review. I purchased a 2022 streetfighter v4sp exactly like the one you test rode in the video. As an actual owner of many motorcycles including rare ducatis your spot on almost every detail. Except the sound of a dry clutch...thats music to my ears. Let's start off with you shifting into neutral trying to use your quicksilver. Its not your Mode, or rpm....its a KNOWN recall from ducati. The rizoma shift linkage pivot bolt moves in the linkage!!! Insane oversight!!! I waited 2 months for the recall parts from ducati, which didn't fix it!!! Ended up making a custom washer that permanently fixed that issue. Second point you made, that was 100% accurate was the insanely heavy clutch pull....for anyone saying get stronger! I say let me see you curl 5 lbs for 500 reps!! Idiots. It's 18 lbs of pull for those interested. I swapped out the slave for an oberone and swapped out the primary spring from a 140lbs to a 120 lbs from stm, and aftermarket levers...helps bring the pull to a heavy but manageable 13 lbs of lever pull...still a bit heavier than a stock streetfighter v4s. Lastly the hesitate or chatter at slow speeds in the throttle....I purchased the throttle spacers...that problem was solved. Thanks. Vince.
