Though Rivian's R1T and Hummer's EV were the first all-electric pickups on the market, Ford's F-150 Lightning will likely prove a more significant product. With a starting price as low as $41K in Pro trim and a bevy of useful features like intelligent backup power, the Lightning is an attainable EV truck that intends to change consumer driving habits.
A standard range battery provides 230 miles of range and 452 horsepower, while an extended range version boasts 320 miles of range and 580 horsepower. Both variants generate 775 lb-ft of torque. Longer range Lightnings are quite the bump in price (the cheapest Pro/extended range is about $55K), but with the extra power and range comes greater towing capacity (up to 10,000 lbs), a generator function to power your home for up to 10 days in the event of a blackout, and 9.2 kW of on-board power to run tools and camping gear. All this is bundled into a conventional full-size truck body with a familiar layout inside and out.

What I like about this truck is how it looks like just a normal f-150. A lot of electric cars nowadays are unmistakably electric, but I bet from afar, most people would assume it's just a normal truck. Although, this is definitely a shot at a luxury truck. I wouldn't expect a fleet of lightnings anywhere.

With the platinum trim option a contractor or someone who works in construction would find the outlets very useful. A very expensive truck but a construction company working out a deal with Ford to get a small fleet of these trucks with the outlets, sounds pretty appealing with how gas prices are right now. If gas prices continue to rise, which they probably will, the F-150 Lightning is looking pretty promising. Although insurance will be very high for the first few years you own it.

Great video @MilesPerhr ! Thanks for testing the turning radius - you were the very few that have done that test. Also love the computer generated propulsion sound that can be switched on/off. Very impressive trim but too rich for me. 1PD is something I will be using as my daily drive is urban and have gotten used to using it on my current PHEV using paddle shifters. I have the $70K Lariat SR Lightning arriving this summer. Can't wait!

Did f fix the fire problem ? I read somewhere that Ford had sent owners of their EV to park in their driveways because there was a risk of fire even with car off. Apparently a software update that went wrong.

The only thing I don't like about the strong regen when you let off the accelerator is your not hitting the brakes so the people behind you won't see your brake lights. Which in today's society people tend to tailgate pretty commonly. Makes it more susceptible to rear end collisions.

The Jackery Solar generator is probably your best bet. It has multiple solar charging panels so you should be able to charge up the unit while still charging the truck

Good luck trying to recharge 130Kwh’s with at most 200w of solar….Even if you reach the nominal charge voltage(which you most likely won’t), it will take you 10+ hours to add 1 -2 miles to the truck!

That's the current issue with EVs - off the grid, there isn't a sufficiently large power source (until we can harness more of the solar energy in portable solutions).

The self-driving feature is purely for highway use at this stage, and does require input in case of failure, so I don't think it's quite ready for what you need. Hopefully the tech and regulations will be there soon!

not that i know everything about this stuff..but i feel like resale value will depend on how much ford or 3rd party vendors charge for battery replacements. the reason why tesla's depreciate so much is because tesla charges so much for a battery replacement. however i think tesla is making it slightly cheaper and im sure ford is less tax than tesla.

@@KaufmanLionPride Hard to say but if I were to guess 5 years down the road, I would say at that time most people will want EV's over ICE. So even though 2027 F150 might (definitely will) have better range, I would think that most people buying used will still prefer buying a 2022 lightning over a 2022 ICE f150. Add to that, the low number of them being produced, and I would say that resale value might not be that bad.

Find someone to work on this new generation truck when something goes wrong. No indy mechanic will touch this for risk of electrocuting themselves and good luck finding a dealer who has specialized techs to work on one.
