I am 5’ female rider bought the 48 for my first bike . It is great with forward controls it feels like riding a big bike and I changed handlebars to 10’ bars so i don’t lean forward…that was a game changer for me . Able to sit comfortably in my seat and the 1200 keeps up with the bigger bike on long rides . Peanut tank is 2.1 gallon you get s out 85 miles per tank .. absolutely love my bike 😎✌️

I put about 10,000 miles on this same bike over 5 years, it is a fantastic machine with a few drawbacks. 1. still lots of vibration, hands and butt go numb after about 40 minutes. 2. not a lot of range on the peanut tank, about 70 to 80 miles, never got 100 miles out of a tank 3. yes plenty of power for the highway BUT no 6th gear so very buzzy at 70 mph. 4. wide front tire makes it a pig in the curves. 5. 1.5 inches of rear suspension travel, you feel every bump. Overall a fantastic bike for around town, short rides not comfortable on long rides, but alot of fun, looks great!

Your right about the gas tank range, I get about 35 miles per gallon, much less than the mileage that has been advertised, no big deal to me, though. The Sportster 48 is not set up to be a long distance comfort bike, it is a fun, agile "bobber."

I love my 48. I’m 5’ 11” 280 lbs(a big boy) and I’m comfortable. The bike has plenty of power. I rip around the city streets on mine and on the highway it’s Okay. The wind is an issue on the highway, it will blow you around, but also moves along great, I’m usually doing 80+ easily. Fuel range is a thing with the peanut tank. But again, it’s meant to be a quick bar hopping machine or tearing around town. It’s great for off highway day trips. Just plan on topping off the tank after about 80 miles. This bike is FUN. Which is why I bought it.

100 miles? Ha. I have a Stage 1 48 and I'm lucky to make it 70. This isn't a bike you buy for any practical reason, you buy it to blast around town and look awesome doing so. The riding position isn't optimal, the rear suspension has no travel, the seat is thin, the mirrors are basically for show, and the tank is tiny. It's a toy.

@stevem4783
@stevem4783 Жыл бұрын
@@RandyNachoManSandwich Honestly the Iron 1200 is a more comfortable bike because of the seat, bars, and riding position...the mid controls and higher bars mean you sit in a neutral position instead of hunched over with your legs extended like you do on the 48. It also has a thinner front tire so it's a little easier to steer around, and about a good 40-ish more miles of range because of the bigger tank. I wouldn't recommend getting one of them and turning it into a 48, that's a lot of work and money in mods when it'd be easier to just find a 48 outright.

Got a 48 recently…I’ve been riding big Japanese sport bikes my whole life,.. still do… this is my first Harley. I was not comfortable with forward controls … I replaced those with mids … I can grind, stand, sit up straight. The gas tank doesn’t hold enough gas to make long runs so why lay back.. whatever, it’s a much heavier bike than I’m used to but the up front power gives it some respect. I didn’t need this bike but I never had one and only rode an old school knuckler back when I was 18 or so. I figured what the hell? All my friends have a Harley in their garage that they don’t ride much so I added it to the stable. I don’t hate anything or anyone as long as nobody’s getting hurt . I do hate evil. The mid controls help with maneuvering this heavy frame, I’m getting used to it ,… shit, I might buy another perhaps a bigger one… I’m 64 years old so I probably won’t be stunting. I’m also building a stretched and raked rigid Honda in the style of a frisco triumph. We’ll see what happens. That’s my amateur review.

@@luvsallbikes279 Shocks are Burly Brand 13'5 progressive they're for the Dyna but they will fit the 48 sporty ( & huge improvement over the stock) you just need two flat washers either side to pack them out at the swing arm. I didn't have to raise the forks there's no stretch as I've 2 inch risers. I didn't to mention I needed a 9 inch kickstand due to the 13.5 shocks the 8 inch stand works but it's just a bit dodgy ( & adjust the drive belt to suit) the seat height is approximately 30mm higher the bonus is it never bottoms out anymore and the stance is similar to that of the Roadster & I've the Roadster seat. I can't overstate enough how sh~t the stock MICHELIN Commander's were & how good the AVON venoms are. In summary, Number 1 ) Mid controls, 13.5 progressive shocks & AVON venoms drag bars 2 inch risers. Number 2) 9 inch kickstand. At 5 7 I thought the 48 would be for me but your description of the seating position makes me wonder if it is. Forward controls are a deal breaker!
@jeffcagle7021
@jeffcagle7021 Жыл бұрын
When I bought mine at the dealership about half of the 48’s had mid controls and the other half had forward controls. I had wanted a grayish/silverish color one and didn’t get it because all of those were mid controls. The forward controls on the 48 are very slightly forward to where it feels almost like a mid control bike rather than a forward controls bike

30” inseam, you’ll feel a bit stretched initially due to the novelty of forward controls, but it ultimately becomes comfortable. I never get bored of mine, took it for a 150 mile spin the other day.

Rick, I am glad your body can still take it, I am pretty worn down. I used to own a 1976 Sportster, looked like Peter Fondas bike with Dennis Hoppers paint job. Hard tail, and I used to ride that thing all over the country with no hickups. Time caught up with me, I also am 70.

Not in the least. The Low Rider S has some torque but it's a pig, it has trouble outrunning a 48 from a dig, it gets dusted by the Nightster, and absolutely dumped on by the Sportster S. It couldn't run with the old Night Rods and Muscles, too.

@@marksmallman4572they're v bad in places. The freeways in caifornia, particularly in and around LA, are amongst the worst road surfaces I've driven on anywhere, excluding only africa from that. No investment, no maintenence and too muc wear and tear. Awful roads.

I have been a Harley man all my life. I own and will keep til I die an 03 Anniversary Edition Electra Glide. But! I have had such horrible experiences with Stealerships screwing my bike up every time I took it in for service or anything else. And ridiculous prices for parts. I have recently bought 2 Chinese bikes that I love!. Harley is like the Dems. They both need to get it right or get off the pot. They are now patching over a Chinese bike if that don't say it all. I will never sell or stop riding the Harley I have but I won't buy another unless they get over themselves and get a handle on the garbage service and ridiculous prices. I do like your reviews and thank you for them though.
