I'd pick the hybrid over the regular gas one. More power, better suspension, amazing mpg, hybrids are low maintenance meaning less oil changes and you almost never need to replace brake pads. Might be a little more on msrp but you'll quickly recoup that in the first 2 years, and if gas goes up to 4-5$+ a gallon given everything going on in the world, a low maintenance flue sipper could be a life saver.

There is a trick to get the Hyundai Hybrids to stay in EV mode for a little while. Accelerate the car to one or two miles above the speed you want to drive at. Once you hit that speed let off the throttle and let the car coast down in speed. The EV Mode only should kick in if you have any extra charge in the battery. Once it is in EV Mode turn on the cruise control and drive like a EV. This trick will not work if your in a low state of charge.

So glad Sofyan mentioned the cut line on the hood. I don’t think it’s a big problem with an economy car like the Elantra, but I do see that manufacturers have been getting lazy with cars where that shouldn’t exist in my opinion. The new M3/4, Jag F-Type (one of the worst examples), etc. Ruins the look, and while I get that there are regulations safety standards that often dictate the boundaries of a car’s design, there are also typically work arounds. An example would be the LC500. It had a deployable hood solely for the purpose to achieve a certain appearance, and to avoid that same cut line like this Elantra has between the hood and front bumper.

Just got a 2023 Elantra Hybrid Limited. Love the car. My ONLY complaint is the brakelights. Idk if they downgraded from 2022 to 2023 but the brakelights are incandescent and not LED (5:00) . Probably not a big deal to 99% of people but it kinda bothers me considering how LED's look much better, last longer, and have an overall better performance. It's really disappointing considering how almost EVERY car now gets at the minimum, LED brakelights and taillights, even if they have incandescent turn signals and reverse lights. Hyundai does do full LED taillights (including brakelights and turn signals) on models like the Palisade and Tucson, wish they invested a little more on the sedans to give them full LED. Hell, I think even the 2023 Sonata gets full LED taillights and brakelights now. With a unique pattern, they could really change the way the rear of the car looks to other people and in general. Thats just me tho.

The blind spot video in the dash when using the turn signals is very nice, to teach idiots to start using the turn signals. I prefer the engines with both port and direct fuel injection, however some brands like Mazda have helped to prevent the intake valves from building up carbon deposits soon, also using a quality gasoline- a good brand, not higher octane that is only needed if the owners manual requires it either all of the time or for more power.

Traded my 2012 Cruze Eco in on my Elantra Blue Hybrid. Loved my Cruze Eco also. Got really good at coasting down hills here in Ky. For 10 years everytime I filled up my Cruze it was a game to get the best mpg that tank. Pulling every trick in the book the best I achieved was 45 mpg, usually it was around 39 to 40 mpg. Nobody and I mean NODODY could have done better in my Eco. Maybe all Cruze Eco's weren't created equal. My Elantra is getting 55 to 62 mpg. Highway driving my Eco would get 40 mpg average, my Elantra has been averaging 55 mpg. The big difference is in city driving, stop and go or light to light, my Elantra easily hits over 60 mpg and the Cruze drops down in the low 30's or less. The Elantra's motor barely runs in light to light city traffic. Also I would like to add I always checked mpg at the pump, both car's estimates shown on the dash are a little optimistic.

Is a hybrid car advisable for us who are in Ontario, Canada? We have incredibly cold winters.
@jfralick1002 жыл бұрын
I would not get the hybrid. From experience, in Ohio, when the temps drop below freezing the battery really goes into preservation mode and only goes into EV sparingly. When it was below freezing I averaged about 40mpg. Partly due to preheating my car but still much worse MPG. Now if you keep it in a garage it may still do ok. But at that point the standard transmission will probably be the better bet.

@Austin TA It's all about perspective. 40mpg IS bad when typically I get around 50 mpg in my limited hybrid. I actually have even seen my mpg drop into the upper 30s while under freezing conditions. Which is not surprising for hybrids. This is a common issue for almost all hybrids. At this point, when you compare getting the Elantra hybrid vs the non-hybrid, the fuel savings are not there. So what would be achieved by getting the hybrid? Ventilated seats on the limited model??? All I'm saying is that if she lives in an area where most times of year the weather is very cold, she will not get those savings back very quickly if at all because the regular Elantra can get OVER 45MPG highway in real world tests done by KZbinrs. So let me ask you, why should she get a hybrid that costs about 3 grand USD more when she can buy the regular model Elantra that only gets about 3-5 mpg worse fuel economy in her situation?
@jfralick1002 жыл бұрын
@Austin TA fair enough, I'm not familiar with the temps there. All Im saying is that I start to notice a significant difference in fuel economy once the temps start dropping below 40f (~5c), about a 30% decrease in fuel economy under freezing. So as long as majority of the year the temps are above then I would endorse the hybrid! The hybrid also has big pluses too with the suspension and a dct vs a cvt (imo), so I suppose fuel economy isn't everything either!

Starting under 24,000, yea how about you add another 10,000-15,000k to dealers car shortage.

I want a cheap hybrid that isn’t a Toyota, because Toronto toyota dealers are terrible and push for finance, and their bread and butter corollas and rav4s are lifeless. Kinda want this just to have a dual clutch

Are you able to choose when to drive electric only? Or is up to the car to choose? I know its not plug ig so I wont go to far without gas
@kyjoe34032 жыл бұрын
The car chooses, but you can control it, get up to speed, ease off the pedal and it will switch to EV then gently ease back on the pedal. I can drive several miles all EV on flat grades or slightly down hill.

This may be a dumb question but im new to hybrid cars. Does this car need to be plugged in?
@zahra98132 жыл бұрын
No, this car is a normal hybrid meaning it charges itself whenever it is in motion from what I understand. It will always require fuel but you won’t have to visit the gas station as much. The one you’re asking about is a plug-in hybrid. 🙂

Since the current Forte is based off the old Elantra and not the new one, when is the Forte getting redesigned to match the new Elantra? The current Forte and old Elantra are on the J6 platform but the new Elantra is the K3 platform. Heck, could Kia even rebrand the Forte to the Kia K3 when their K3-platform compact sedan comes to be consistent with how they rebranded the Optima to K5?

Would be nice to see a 2.0 or 2.4 in combination with the hybrid system

Nice review overall but you're talking a lot too fast. Couldn't hear every word in places even after rewinding.

It’s basically a face-lifted continuation of the outgoing Ioniq (not the Ioniq 5). I love my Ioniq, sport mode is the best.

Why do people keep putting cars on the grass to show them around? It literally ruins the impression. It’s like putting a horse in a bathroom for photoshoot.
