On the night of November 12th, 2022, four students at the University of Idaho spent a Saturday night out with friends in their college town of Moscow, ID. The following morning, they were all found massacred in an off-campus residence. Without a recovered murder weapon, suspects, or obvious motive behind the murders, authorities embarked on a 6-week long investigation to put the pieces of this senseless crime together.
Welcome to Murder Maps, a show that connects every detail of a murder case to a map. In this inaugural episode, we will retrace accused killer Bryan Kohberger’s movements before and after the murders took place. We will navigate the extensive investigation that followed and look in detail at all of the evidence that led to Kohberger’s eventual arrest.
Matthew Steiner, a Senior Crime Scene Analyst and former first grade detective with the NYPD, examines the key details of the case and provides insight into the intricate process behind catching a killer. For more on Detective Steiner, visit www.mattsteinercsi.com

The most shocking part of this case, to me, is that the residence has been demolished. How would a jury be allowed to visit the scene for more insight into the complicated layout of the house, how/if noise travels, and what can or can’t be seen from various areas? I worked for attorneys, first as a secretary, legal assistant, and finally trial assistant on murder trials, had my own transcription business for the state courts where I transcribed many trials, and had 10 years working with a private investigator. I can’t stress enough, the importance of a visit to the actual scene.

Agreed. I do understand the University wanting the house demolished, but wait until the trial is over. Picture and videos do not take the place of understanding how the peculiar layout of this house may have determined what was heard, by whom, and when… no other evidence would’ve been permitted to be destroyed before the trial.

None of us are experts about anything involving this case or otherwise. Everything talked about in this video was talked about ad nauseam by former law enforcement, by attorneys, by online true crime detectives, etc, etc two years ago -- namely based solely upon the prosecution's long-standing case and info. This interview is recounting information stuck in 2022. It is in complete contrast to the recent legal proceedings as of 2025. 2:30 Those skid marks were present well before this atrocity. Xana Kernodle was performing an interview regarding her college major. They were present on that video. The tire marks have no relevance to this tragedy. 2:49 The identification of the Elantra was not from Linda Lane, but from 1125 Ridge Road according to prosecutor Jennings. That identification was 2011-2013 Elantra. The defendant drives a 2015 Elantra. 4:11 The witness's account as written in the 2022 PCA conveniently omits the fact that she heard one of the victims running down the stairs, up the stairs and back down the stairs. None of that was included in the PCA but was revealed in these most recent 2025 hearings from police interviews. If she just woke up to hear commotion upstairs, as stated in 2022, with this same victim ultimately to be found dead upstairs, at what point was this same victim running up and down the stairs? Why wasn't it included in the 2022 PCA? Frozen shock phase, yet based upon text messages between the surviving roommates, police determined a timeline? Furthermore, no attempt to text outside help to call law enforcement from not one but two surviving roommates? 14:49 The PCA makes no mention of "restaurant" "mad" "greek" or "twice". 16:34 PCA according to Corporal Payne page 13, "Phone stops reporting to the network, which is consistent with either the phone being in an area without cellular coverage, the connection to the network is disabled (such as putting the phone in airplane mode), or that the phone is turned off." To conclude it was turned off is inaccurate at this point in time. 16:59 There are two towers serving that town. Stating "area of the crime scene" is deliberately vague to contribute to this guilty narrative. Even Payne states in the PCA page 15, "Investigators found that the 8458 Phone did connect to a cell phone tower that provides service to Moscow on November 14, 2022, but investigators do not believe the 8458 Phone was in Moscow at that date." Furthermore the PCA page 16 states, "Pullman Washington is approximately 10 miles from Moscow, Idaho. Both Pullman and Moscow are small college towns and people commonly travel back and forth between them." Connecting to a tower that has the potential to crossover 15-20 miles, considering the proximity of both Moscow and Pullman, is not alarming as illustrated by the first point in the PCA. By Corporal Payne's own admission, it's also not surprising for people to travel between the towns as illustrated by the second point in the PCA. 17:48 Here we go with the phone data nonsense. If it was during the bright morning , the 1112 surveillance camera would record this event. No darkness obscuring that footage. Show that footage documenting his vehicle and we have the start of a legitimate conversation. Until then, this reliance of phone pings is continued nonsense. The trace/transfer DNA is the lynchpin of this case. Considering it is such a critical piece of the prosecutor's evidence, one would expect they would enthusiastically provide the process and details regarding this analysis and conclusion. But what do we have, complete secrecy regarding this one element. Bethany Funke's account was not included in the PCA. Why? The CAST analysis conveniently omitted significant segments of data from analysis. Why? Blood on the interior handrail and glove outside determined unknown male origin not further evaluated. Why? If more evidence comes out ACTUALLY validating guilt, he should suffer to the fullest extent of the law. But as of now, anyone with two neurons realize this case is completely saturated with reasonable doubt. This officer/crime scene analyst being interviewed is a hallmark example of not using critical thought and defaulting blind gullibility to law enforcement. LAME.

You sure are awfully confident that Kohberger committed this crime, I wonder what you make of Unidentified male A and Unidentified male D's blood found at the scene, on the banister and in the glove outside. Two possible informants that are related to two victims, w/a third being related to a third victim. There is unknown male (meaning not BK) dna found (blood dna on handrail in house), and two others. Why wouldn’t the prosecution not pursue beyond them being “male.” One being blood on a handrail. I’d say that’s misconduct to not test further. To be sure, Green, nor prosecution wants to show it being a hit from a drug cartel, as that would mean losing students. It would affect Moscow business too. That’s the “why” of framing a non-student of Idaho, but of another university. Green writes a book before the trial, and they tear the house down. The frame is what they’re going with.

He did it… and it will be proved in court. He DNA didn’t just happen to fly into that bedroom and land on the inside button of knife sheath. It is coded and then needed a suspect to compare it to. my buddy is an electrical engineer in Silicon Valley. he has a masters degree in cell technology. he was saying that the triangulation from towers is now insanely accurate. it is antiquated technology that would buttress the arguments of people stuck on that technology in understanding the triangulation of today. towers will take data to the 8th digit of time. that is, geolocation from triangulation is now accurate to within 100 meters. Add to that any satellite tracking on a phone and it pinpoints even more accurately. I guess we will see. I find more and more that people are relying on old technology to give law enforcement some"gotcha" moment to support their idea of reasonable doubt. REasonable doubt itself is poorly understood. Many for instance think that any remote probability occurence IS in fact reasonable doubt. Too many people out there watch crime shows and think they are experts perhaps?

What? Also, how is this guy going to get a fair trial? I don't think police should be allowed to give any info on a crime to news outlets.. Do I believe he did it? Absolutely. Why? All of the information I've seen about it, that hasn't been part of his trial. So would I be an impartial juror? No. However, if they ask jurors if they're impartial, some will say yes, say they've never heard of this case, and they get impanelled on the jury even though they're not impartial. I don't think police/prosecutors office personnel should be allowed to give the media any information about suspects in a crime. It makes it so it's almost impossible for anyone to get a fair trial nowadays.. because information spreads like wildfire now on the internet. But do I think he's guilty? Yes. Very much so. However, do I think he deserves a fair trial? Yes. Everyone does. Even if I hate him and think he doesn't deserve to get a fair anything for the rest of his life. However horrific his crimes and similar crimes are, the justice system needs to be fair for everyone. Not just innocent people. Otherwise we get to a point where the justice system isn't fair to the innocent, either.

The house has been described by past residents as having bad noise attenuation internally... hard floor throughout and thin gyproc walls. The rooms and connecting spaces were all very small. The digital version of the house will not allow jurors the opportunity to experience this. Any screams, fighting and the dog barking would have been heard by the two house mates and should have made them aware that something was seriously wrong.

@@pennyroyal-tea Here is @enduringvalor's comment. They listed ALL the discrepancies. You're welcome! LAME.

Imo from the 8 hr wait, one or both of the surviving roommates has something to do with it or knows more than they are telling. From what we know in court hearings, there was a lot of things left out of the pca. Things such as blood on the handrail going upstairs, blood on a glove outside the home. With blood being in those two places alone, how did he get out without any of their DNA on him, his car, his apartment, his office, or his parents' house?
@raincadeify
@raincadeify 6 күн бұрын
He stripped and stuffed the clothes and the knife in a bag before getting in the car, then dumped it; probably in the snake river on the way home. Also, like you said, we don't know all the evidence that's been gathered. There could have been blood in his car. This is very reminiscent of the OJ trial. He left very little blood behind and they never found the knife or the clothes.

@@user-qg9jx4ce3j From another user who answered this exact question very thouroughly. You're welcome! LAME.

whoever the perpetrator was (and I believe it was Kohberger) he knew the house; he entered on the second floor and immediately went upstairs to Madison Mogen's room. He didn't feel the need to check any other room because he knew where he was going. Maddie was the initial target. Whether the individual intended to kill her or had other intentions in mind I think is questionable, but his mind was made up when he opened her bedroom door and found that she was not alone. Kaylee was in the room with her and whatever his plans were originally murder became his objective soon after. It's all speculation of course but I think it makes sense. I think he became enraged when he discovered Kaylee in the room with Madison Mogen. Police reports suggest the attack on Kaylee was more brutal than on the other three. I've seen it suggested that the amount of damage Kaylee suffered shows she was the target, but I think it makes more sense, because he couldn't have known that Kaylee was there visiting her friend, and he knew the layout of the house, he knew where Mogen's room was... I think he went there to take advantage of Maddie and upon discovering that Ms. Mogen wasn't alone he became furious with jealousy because his plans had been ruined. I think that's why Kaylee suffered much more damage than the other three. As for Ethan and Xana, Ethan opened their bedroom door to investigate the noise they had heard, and I think it's just unfortunate that the perpetrator was just coming down the stairs at that time and saw someone who could potentially identify him. Maddie was the target... the other three were collateral damage. I hope Kohberger rots in hell.

First, it sounds so dangerous to go into a house that you don’t know how many people inside the house and if they have a gun or no secondly Make no sense how can you kill two people at the same time if there were two people at each room two against one And how do you leave the crime scenes without no blood trails after you? And no DNA in your car houses anywhere not only that there is no clear picture of his car despite all the cameras around and also How come the police found the knife sheath only the second time and without no blood on it clean like someone perfectly just replace it there intentionally and there were gloves outside the house and another DNA that they never checked not to mention the roommates or she look more suspicious than Bryan.

00:27 First of all, there is no such classification of a "misdemeanor homicide." However, there is a related legal concept called misdemeanor manslaughter, which occurs when someone unintentionally causes a death while committing a misdemeanor. This is similar to involuntary manslaughter, but specifically tied to misdemeanor offenses. Whomever killed these kids knew that there were others in that house, potentially lots of others, so I doubt seriously they went in there with the intent to kill just one person.
