Always loved the A8...until this generation. It seems that Audi intentionally made it the most anonymous luxury flagship sedan sold. Proportions that remind me of an extended wheelbase VW Passat aren't good. I also remember the previous Audi A8s having unsurpassed interior design and refinement(up until the 2014 W222 MB S-Class), but this current model seems behind everything except the Lexus LS. The new Genesis G90 seems to occupy the space that A8 once held. Maybe the next gen will evolve pass this underwhelming design, overall.

Of course it’s a beautiful car, I especially like that dark blue color, however I feel that it should be a bit faster even for the base engine. Audi was getting those times with their 4.2 base and close to it with with the 3.0 supercharged engine almost a decade ago. Jaguars base engine for the XJ was getting similar numbers a decade ago, and the base engine in the 2014 S550 was 4.4 to 4.6 seconds. I realize that the S550 had a V-8, but for a base engine with a mild hybrid it’s not impressive. I mean look at a base X drive BMW X5 with the B58, 4.8 to 60 it’s quicker than this, not apples to apples comparison of course…..

I spotted this comment months later. I went and test drove a G70 and G80 last week and everything looks really nice, it looks the part, but everything feels plasticky and not very strong somehow. I noticed everything is also way less satisfying to use even compared to the clicky metal buttons in my 2012 A6. There is a seriously huge difference in how everything feels. Even the doors felt weirdly cheap, but everything looked awesome. The engines are also way less refined, like they haven't quite figured out smooth operation of everything together yet. I will say they're partway there but they both still felt Hyundai. We have a Kia Forte that is falling apart 8 years later and I got back in it right after the G70 and I recognized the same DNA and rough core feel in both cars, even a similar sound (Forte exhaust leak. Haha) and drivetrain feel/shifting, throttle response at high RPM. I'm going for a previous gen 4.0T A8 or S8 or a C8 A6 instead, maybe Tesla Model S (but not much character for that one)

Get the 4-wheel steering! It's incredible how easily this long car navigates tight parking garages and other small spaces. I would never have cared about this feature, but I have driven the car with and without it. I bought a 2019 last year, and if I get another one I'll make sure it has the pkg with 4WS. Just hoping Audi keeps this line going, as I have no desire for an SUV. FYI: I got 32 MPG driving my son and his dorm contents from Central VA to Philadelphia - including a lot of speed changes due to a lot of metropolitan bypass miles.
@BobC59 Жыл бұрын
Why would someone who has done well in life and wants to treat themselves to some spacious comfort and a great driving experience want something "more flashy"? Audi specifically designed the interior to be "tranquil". Consider the source of the statement "I like something a little more flashy" - a presenter who is not likely part of this car's target market (age 55+). Classy, attractive, yet understated looks combined with excellent quality, feel, driveability, and comfort is what Audi does so well. For me (age 59), I have nothing to prove via the car I drive. In fact, I want the car I spend hours in to offer all the above in a package that does NOT say "look at me!". If you can own an A8L, you can probably have something fun (or even flashy) in the garage for weekends.

As an avid Audi enthusiast for the past 40 years, and current owner, the A8 comes up short in curb appeal vs. the S and even the 7. It's all in the greenhouse to me. Audis have had slim D-pillars for decades and while that's fine for the A4/6, the A8 suffers from that when it's scaled to the full-size segment. Part of what makes the S-class look so solid and hefty/expensive is the wider D-pillar that creates more privacy for rear seat passengers and really beefs up the side profile. As it's been designed since it came out, the thin-pillar'd A8 looks too fragile, lightweight, and exposed at the rear of the greenhouse. It's always bugged me about this model and I'm surprised Audi hasn't tried to differentiate this model from the lower models by simply widening that pillar to create a more substantial and cocoon-like look. It just looks like a giant A4.
