You have to wonder if the complexity of a vehicle, at some point, exceeds the ability of the service infrastructure, much less, its owner, to maintain it. I suspect, with vehicles like this, we've arrived. Maybe the next wave will feature minimalist cars that take us back to roll-up windows!
@scottkempton6085 Жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. The fancy features will probably be pretty reliable for the first one or two owners, but eventually they will start to break, turning cars like this into a giant money pit. The guy who buys this formerly $150k car for $20k in 7 or 8 years won't be able to afford to fix those things.

Tom, I am thrilled, I repeat THRILLED 🥳🥳🥳🥳by the traditional sedan side profile and form displayed by the new 7 Series. This is not a silly, CLS-style coupe-sedan, this is a real SEDAN with full rear legroom and honest to goodness headroom for passengers in the back. 👏👏👏👏 Did I mention being thrilled?🤔 I hope 🤞🤞and pray 🙏🙏this starts a trend of real sedans coming back to the market.

I am wowed by this thing. It’s more of a museum piece. I think we’ve seen the last of this breed, and this may be one of the final straws so to speak. I just can’t believe how expensive it is. It used to be that the seven series was even within reach of the not so ultra wealthy. not the case anymore. The market for this has got to be so small. As you say, it’s probably a chauffeur car. Excellent review. Thanks for making me continue to see the world with wonder. The mighty SUV will wipe this out.

I like that you and Martin drive/video in an upscale automobile in an upscale neighborhood. Beautiful homes, landscaping, and cars. The only question that I have Tom, is regarding the driver's rear view being blocked when the 31 inch screen is lowered. Did BMW not put one of those trick rear view mirrors that becomes a video screen for the rear facing camera? It would be a terrible omission in a luxury automobile like this. It should have one, and it should automatically turn on when the screen is lowered.

I have seen a resurgence in luxury sedans lately. I think maybe 4 of my neighbors have bought the new S-Class in the last few months, I even have one that has an EQS, and the new S-Class. There are several i7s running around too, one of my tenants has one and I got to check it out and it is amazing, especially that back screen. I used to have S-Classes but I have to tow things so not practical anymore but if I was to get another luxury sedan I think I would go BMW this time, the new S-Class just leaves me kind of cold, really doesn't have that presence to me.

Went from a 2021 750i Msport to a 2023 S580, i didn't like the exterior design of the new 7 series so i went with the S-Class but i do have my regrets. The 7 series is better built in my opinion, drives better, more responsive throttle and handles way better than the new S-class but the S-class interior has more of a wow factor. For the S-class to move you really have to mash on the gas but with my 7 series acceleration was effortless, the car also gets squirelly under high speeds, something that never happened with my 7-Series. I also have a very annoying rattle i suspect is coming from the rear privacy shades, in 3 years of driving the 7 series not once did i hear a rattle. I think i made a mistake

Regarding the big american luxury sedans, Cadillac does still make the big CT6 albeit only in China now. The American Lucid Air (whilst the size of the 5-Series on the outside) has competitive interior room to full-size luxury sedans like the 7-Series and S-Class on the inside.

Smart move by BMW by focusing on tech since they know they cannot compete with the S-Class in term of luxuriousness. Although I love a minimalistic design, it seems to be lacking some oomph for a flagship full size sedan, compared to the previous generation. With that being said, the interior is outstanding and somewhere you would want to be in. You really have to be a die hard BMW fan to pick this over something like the S-Class (or other competitors ; let's face it, if you have the money to buy these types of vehicle, you choice is most likely endless).
@DJL78 Жыл бұрын

First off, thanks for the contribution, you're a ...uh, star, Ed. To your point, OTA's make todays vehicle updatable, to a point. Yup, these will be expensive to fix post warranty (I personally know people that have walked away from expensive cars after 120K because of this) . However, automobiles are built to a different spec than your TV or laptop to withstand much higher temps and vibration. It's all a concern, wouldn't stop me from buying a car I want. Plus, folks that can afford this can afford to fix it

It's the flagship BMW. So, while expensive(!), it's "worth it". Beautiful interior with every amenity and then some. A BMW is packed with very oldschool outdated technologies that rather belong in an old electric public transport bus, and with ever cheaper, trashier materials that feel anything but luxury. The UX is laughable, like 12 years behind even the oldest, 19 year old Tesla. The interior design is stuck in the 90ies, the exterior design is like a FrankenStein student project that tries to hide all its bulky technological flaws in the ugliest possible way. SHAMEFUL.
