This is what you get when marketing and tech geeks design a car. For starters, it's a sedan, so if it's not a Camry or Accord, it will be a tough sell. Next, no buttons or dials for HVAC and infotainment controls , no door handles, no traditional steering wheel. A massive display and amount of tech that is likely to add distraction to driving it. Lastly, it's likely going to be $100k+ so it's not going to be what people are asking for. People want an affordable regular car. If you want to make an EV, make something that is like a normal regular car to help migrate ICE drivers over to EVs. These creations are nothing more than play toys for the rich. Further complicating it's success, the "rich" want a prestige brand, not a Honda/Sony collaboration.

i can agree w most of this but i dont think its true. on the west coast (idk about east) of the us, teslas are hugely popular and have all the things you listed. its for tech nerds who want a techy car, and tech is a huge, growing industry. its unfortunate bc i hate teslas, and i hate the “sanitization” of cars. i agree it likely wont sell well, but not for the reasons you listed. its meant to be a tesla competitor, but why buy an afeela if tesla is right there? it doesnt have the brand recognition that tesla has. while ofc its made by honda, this is not targeted to honda fans and that much is clear.

Another great video, Tom, even though it's not your normal take on it. I like the car, it definitely looks futuristic. My only concern is the distraction from the screen on the passenger side. How exactly will they make sure the driver isn't distracted by what's on the screen. Maybe a private screen protector overlay? Who knows, but it looks like the future to me!
@paulgiannamore32742 ай бұрын
This Afeela is exactly representative of why I think I'm on the last new car I plan on owning in my lifetime. Yep, it's "only" a '22 Accord Sport, and it "only" has 195 horsepower, but it is kind of fun to drive, kind of comfortable, does what I need it to, is a willing partner on back roads or the Interstate. No, it's not an MB or a BMW. It doesn't electrically go 0-60 in 1.9 seconds (and where do we really get to use that on public roads anyway) , but what it does, it does with some food for my driving soul. We all have cars like that. For me, it was what I could afford and it does what I need it to with some character and passion, none of which involves message boards, steering yokes, gigantic entertainment centers to watch while the car "drives itself." Does adding more distractive capabilities represent anything a person with any motoring passion really wants? Tom, I find myself watching fewer reviews, and it's not anything you do. You are terrific, but the products are becoming more and more bland and more and more out of reach. Sport utes everywhere started it, giant trucks added to it, this kind of stuff will finish it. (And instead of 'save the manuals," could we have had a 'save the sedan" movement? Just a request.)

Besides the bad brand naming choice, I can't really picture that a lot of affluent people who have the means to buy such a geeky car would actually do so. There are already several large, tech & feature loaded EV sedans on the US market (Lucid Air, Tesla S, Mercedes EQS, BMW I7, Porsche Taycan), and none of them is currently selling particularly well. How will launching a new large EV sedan under a completely unknown, unproven brand succeed in such a crowded, very competitive segment? Sony has zero expertise in developing in-car entertainment software & features and Honda has no expertise in developing and marketing a high-end tech-heavy EV sedan. Both companies are clearly punching way out of their class with this vehicle. Good luck to them anyway.
