What I thought of was expanding the size but with the same ratio, like 6/20 is just 30/100, doing so gives people that have some kind of situation going on where they do have to suddenly leave (kids/family) a big cushion, but people with a bad habit for leaving the second things get tough will be caught just as fast

If you're only playing 1hr a night, you aren't leaving frustrating games, because they're not invested enough to get frustrated. It makes it so people who don't know if they'll have time won't risk it unless they don't mind the 4 hour ban, those are the super casuals, the kids or parents who don't care cuz there's more to life than Overwatch.

I think the game is definitely in a better place than at the start of the year. I do feel their communication is much better as it was a year ago. I liked hearing in this interview that they aren’t taking listening too far. Just because there are some voices that complain about xyz, doesn’t mean they need to react to each complaint. Let’s get rid of those leavers!!

SVB you are so deserving of this position as a representative of the (dedicated?) Overwatch playerbase. You ask great questions, and so good to see you corner them on several topics with some fairly simple questions, which Jared fumbled over a bit. No offense to the guy but it's a good thing for everyone to have an executive producer feeling a bit nervous and embarrassed. A light grilling is ultimately very healthy, as Jared will review his answers and hopefully realise they weren't satisfying answers. Interviews like this expose the weak points and blind spots, and get them thinking. This was a very successful interview even if on paper there didn't seem to be a lot revealed. Big respect for both of you.

One thing I would love to see added is if its possible to Q for a gametype while in a custom game. Its annoying playing in a custom game with your group, waiting for somebody to get back from the bathroom. And when they get back, you have to back out to Q, and then load back into that same custom game. And if it was your custom game, any progress that was had, is now lost. Its a small update, but I think it would be a great QoL update.

I have never in my life regretted making a free purchase until overwatch 2. What is this winter wonderland bs? I have to play 9 games for a lousy 10 tickets?! Even if I complete the free WW pass, I won’t have enough to get a single legendary. This dev team is horrid and the people deciding the prices need to go.

On the topic of mythics it is so wild, I didnt know there were custom.voicelines or vfx for them. You cant see any of that in the battlepass. And it is a big selling point on the BP. Aren't people mainly leaving quick play games because the main progression in this game is getting wins to unlock characters and comp. with the sheer amount of wins that are required to unlock every character it's a complete waste of time to stay in any losing game. Now you just have to try not to cap to make it go quicker.

This whole new players won't understand the heroes argument is completely in bad faith, since they already have a system in place for new players restricting the heros greatly (only lucio moria mercy on support to start) Currently you need 150 games played to get all the original characters from OverWatch 1 then an additional 50 games for Illari then 175 wins total to get the 5 other "new" heros excluding mauga. This ends up taking 500-700 games in total Even winning the majority of your games to unlock the cast not even counting maga who probably needs another 35 ones after the season. So for some reason you can learn all the heroes but five in 150 games but those last five need for you to grind at least 400 games (assuming a 50% win rate) before you're supposedly smart enough to play them. This whole grind exists so that you will play against players who have the characters you dont and feel like you're missing out and make them purchase them because of this.

I was also wondering why they wouldn't add LFG, even though I never used it. I saw someone posted recently that it was being used to advertise leveling services and was used by predators. I actually think they don't want to add it back because of this but personally I don't know how prevalent these issues were.

@@notreya Leveling up isn't really relevant anymore since you don't get loot boxes and any way of social interaction will be used by predators. That doesn't mean that others should not have it, they just need to put a slight effort into moderating it

I come from the future when the “winter pass” has begun and shocker we were not told about the $30 that lets you actually get all the skins you have to grind for. Now they talked at length about the $5 version, but I bet SVB is mad that the much better gift (supplied by the Blizzard overlords) of $30. I wasn’t buying it to begin with since it’s a silly thing, but it’s like does their PR team exist? they’re already a credit-less company so it’s weird for them to talk about how they want players trust, then drop a “bundle” that conveniently negates the issues SVB brought up. Did the dev say it was on the way? Nah. He didn’t. To be clear I am not blaming this developer, but it’s a bad look that this wasn’t mentioned. He probably wasn’t allowed to talk about it, and that is literally all you have to know with how interviews get conducted. Nice promises, bad actions immediately following, less trust in the company as a result. I’m convinced they really don’t have a PR team

Disappointing to hear they don’t have big plans for the workshop. It doesn’t have to be Unreal Editor levels of functionality. I would much rather they try to build it up to be able to contend with the source engine games (tf2, cs) and their custom games.

The devs entire employment relies on people believing that making maps and modes is near impossible and takes an absorbent amount of time, if it can be done at all. If you improve the workshop you would get rid of this illusion and people would make their own PvE and maps faster and better than the devs. Something simple like hero mastery would have already been done for every hero if the community was able to make it but at the Dev rate who knows how long it will take for them to add one for every hero if ever, so they will always have a job because they always need to make something which takes forever very convenient.

No, they need to make enough profit to keep their whipmasters happy, but, there should be 1 free skin per role per season. 3 per quarter isn't a lot, they should tied to games played so you can just log in, play a couple dozen games over a week, and then choose which role you want the free one for. No plans for a Forge mode type editor, sigh... I understand not wanting to waste resources on something that a majority of players won't use, but just look at the Halo series and how successful its forge mode is. It's honestly one of the few things, in my opinion, that keeps that game alive. If not Halo any other game that allows players to be creative I mean ffs look at Mario Maker. Having a map editor is just a no-brainer, and stacked with the already existing OW workshop will let players be on that next level shit.

1, If you wanna give a choise, TRULY give a choice, don't just pretend. The maximum free earnable ticket number is 120 so none of the 160 skins are options for f2p players. That shouldn't have happened, players should've been given minimum 160 tickets so at least they can choose 1 legendary skin of the 5 options. 2, If you ask $5 that's a PREMIUM and SHOULD unlock everything, not just 70% of the options. If you would be sorry, you would give the missing tickets for free for everyone that paid that $5. 3, just f***cking bring back leveling up lootboxes. The game is insufferably greedy and unrewarding. Skins are too expensive for the 60 coin a week limit!

Leaver penalty in qp has to go. Awful change. I’ve gotten 2 bans now because I have poor internet. If it was like 12/20 games that would maybe be ok. I still don’t think locking anyone into a garbage game is ok though. Unless it’s comp and they signed up for it.

When there were players that left 90% of their games, they had to add a penalty to prevent that sort of rampant behavior, and since they’ve added the harsher penalties from my own experience, QP has been a much better mode

He makes overwatch sound like an endless experiment of “just trying things out and learning” which seems to be their PR direction. However, I wish sometimes we had developers that just were confident and knew how to make a game and good systems. Devs that were capable of intuiting what players want and what would be fun. Honestly, feels like typical PR strategies. I dont think he will see that Soft throwing in QP does not get reported because its QP. The problem is with what QP is supposed to be. Most of the community dont take it seriously. Qould have been nice to ask him, what is better...a leaver or a thrower? Because i would rather have a leaver than a 0-12 widow.

What i think the problem of ow is that illari. Skins, qp, they are one of the serious issues as well but in long term, i think illari is the one who is very problematic. illari doesn’t contribute to ow main story and looks very alienated coz ow universe is based on a theme of modern future and conflict of humanity and robots and high technologies. Now u may argue with hanzo, Kiri and genji but at least they contribute to main ow storyline expand the universe but illari just appeared from nowhere apparently saying she has a power of a sun and lost all her beloved ones because of the power she couldn’t control. First, we don’t even know where and how the heck inti warriors got those powers and we don’t even know what she is doing after she accidentally killed everyone. She said she is going to “earn” the forgiveness by fighting but we don’t know who is she fighting with or why is she fighting with someone else when every inti warriors are dead. Overwatch should thoroughly explain this. Not only this but her background story is very contrasting to so many other heroes. Every overwatch heroes has some kind of moral and acts based on their moral and gain some kind of power. However, illari is just simply born with the power and because what she had done, she became part of the overwatch playable heroes even though her background is full of passive stories.

I’m sorry, I think Jared is probably a good guy, but some of his answers really make it seem like he/the team really don’t know what they are doing. When talking about other games that overwatch is competing against it’s a really easy answer. Any game with a battle pass is a competitor of overwatch 2. Sure he’s right in saying gameplay wise it’s a different genre, but the whole purpose of these battle pass games is to engage players and keep them in the game for as long as possible. And overwatch 2 probably does it the worst. They need to start looking at every single other game with a battle pass and start taking notes. He rolls his eyes and acts like the playerbase is stupid because we’re complaining about the minimal amount of customization on the recent mythics. When the end all be all of every season is supposed to be this amazing skin even better than a legendary when all we get this season is a souped up version of orisas beetle skin from OW1 with two weapon options, which both look mid tbh, and 4 colors which take the least amount of work to add color variants. Also you can’t honestly tell me that in none of their meetings did they ever think people weren’t going to like how you can’t unlock everything in the winter fair. I get that their goal was to give players agency on what they unlock, but to charge $5 for a pass where you can’t even get everything in the pass is weird. Again they should take a page out of their “non-competitors” books and just give us stuff in a pass. Also the amount of recolors is fine, but charging full price for them is insane. There are Fortnite skins people have bought years ago and when new color variants drop you get them automatically since you own the original. Idk he frustrated me through the whole podcast cuz he doesn’t sound too knowledgeable about the business in which he runs his game. The reason people keep getting mad is because they are trying to create their own business model in a sector where there are already expectations of how things should be done. These player expectations are just us being dumb, it’s us expecting similar value and content when games have the same battle pass business model.

That's not always the case, many lobbies get glitched and never backfill, plus many people just aren't going to try when they get thrown in to a losing game.

good on him for coming on here and being so open to feedback. that said, the orisa mythic is objectively a downgrade. most people dont like it. theres less customization, 2 of the options are way too reminiscent of existing skins, not to mention she isnt a super popular hero so you really need to give people a reason to want it (we were more excited for rubber duckie orisa & star sheep was crazy good). i think its a bit of a cop-out to say 'theres no template', clearly the big sell was its customization. might sound harsh but if the orisa mythic was in development for a long time, they should have noticed the similaries with her megasoma/dynastinae skins. im going to say it, voice modulation isnt a replacement for visual customization of a mythic. im an ana main and i did get the ana mythic because i feel like it would be a wasted oportunity to get something special for my main. that said, i actually rarely use it because her gun sounds so different and i find it distracting. thats personally just my opinion. but i'd rather have the visuals over the audio or ult variation
