To be honest I think there are at least a dozen things that are more important than screen size. For instance, in a family car, cargo space, passenger space, seat comfort, gas mileage, price, running costs, safety ratings, safety features, driving experience, noise levels, easy of third row access, reliability etc all would be a more important part of a choice for me than screen size. It would have to be quite the tie for that to be an important factor. I have cars with screen sizes ranging from 4 to 7 to 12.3 inches and when driving rarely do I care. Definitely prefer the larger size but it really isn't that important to me compared to all those other things.

My google maps and navigation on my 12 in screen was way too wide and I had to make it smaller and even then most my apps had to bee adjusted down to smaller size because on a 12 wide display is not really practical... After 2 recalls that was fixed and a few other things I felt it was time to trade up. I have had 3 Pilots over the years but the 2018 was dog with the 9 speed transmission that Honda could never get it right. Came back to Honda now that they have gone to the Honda 10 speed. I wish you luck because it's really hard to find a good dealer and get a half way good deal. Good Luck

Sounds like this Pilot is the new king 👑 of the segment. More interior volume, better drivetrain, better off-road capability with a superior all-wheel drive system. Regardless of the screen size, this completely out-classes the Korean twins, Subaru, and Toyota.

Depends on what your values are. The Korean twins (in the top trims) wow you when you open the door and get in. Very nice (seat/dash/LCD displays.) Not so much this Pilot. With that said I'd probably get this over the twins.

One thing I really don't understand is why so many companies are producing these extreme off road vehicles when nobody really needs a vehicle for that. It's a hobby, leave it to the Wranglers. People wanted manual transmissions but manufacturers said it was too expensive for the limited market. It seems like more people would want a manual than people who drive their vehicles over big stones for fun.
@ShaiyanHossain Жыл бұрын
Its not about the capability, its about the image. How many new wranglers and broncos will actually go offroad enough to warrant choosing them over a mommy wagon like this?
@MJ-fj9yv Жыл бұрын
First, this is NOT extreme off road capable, this is trail capable. Second, instead of investing in a completely new platform, most companies save $$$ by adding off road capability as a trim on a existing platform. Do you see any other Honda models comparable to Toyota forerunner? Lastly, sale numbers speak volumes about demand hence manufacturers are building these trims.
@fredmoss4540 Жыл бұрын
The Pilot TrailSport is a trim level. My suspicion is Honda did not develop this for off-road capability for Pilot. It was developed for next 3rd Gen Ridgeline redesign. Also Passport redesign. If every Ridgeline had skid plates and slight lift with tuned off-road suspension revamped AWD System. This will give it the much needed off-road cred. This has been one of Ridgeline biggest complaints.Looks are subjective. They did good in refresh of 2nd Gen. Also got rid of FWD trim. All 1st Gen Ridgeline had 4WD. The towing is other complaint max is 5,000lbs with AWD on 2nd Gen and 1st Gen. The other biggest complaint is lack of ground clearance compared to its competitors. It has them beat On-Road driving. So the people that venture Off-road with Ridgeline or Passport is more than a Pilot. Dirt Bikes, kayaks in bed of Ridgeline. So not develop for Pilot specifically. It just happened to get redesign first. Honda engineer said TrailSport had to be good On-Road also good Off-road.
@fredmoss4540 Жыл бұрын
I use to think exactly like you in regards to this. But over the years of having Ridgeline in family. My mind has completely changed. Honda did not have any vehicles that really have Off-road capability from factory. That doesn't mean hard- core rock crawling. Say you get to trail with ditches and ruts. People do go camping so why buy a Jeep vehicle or Toyota,Nissan. I've watched hundreds of Ridgeline videos. The market is out there. You hear the people complaining about. Consumer Reports Ranks Ridgeline High always. But the reason they give for some buyers to skip is lack of off-road potential. So Pilot, Ridgeline,Passport share so many things. I keep pushing Ridgeline,Passport but if somebody wants a larger passenger capable variant. You have Pilot.

Never get this comment that’s always left in videos like this. We take our family hauler off road every time we go on a road trip. Basically anyone that lives out west has very easy access to weekend off roading and getting off the beaten path.

Agreed. It speaks to laziness of the design team for Accord not sharing the new bigger screen (and better software too.) Or perhaps it was the bean counters wanting to hold to a price point. Or maybe it's just a matter of leaving something for the mid-cycle refresh. Whatever it is, it's annoying. At the end of the day though, the lack of 4-way lumbar on the driver's seat is more annoying to me than the display size.

We bought a new MDX last October, and not gonna lie, if I could go back I would just wait for the Pilot. It's basically the same vehicle, you trade a smaller screen for a touchscreen and an extra 5-10k... Definitely worth it :-/ They need to make Acura more premium now that the "base" makes give you premium-ish cars anyway
@volcalstone Жыл бұрын
You get a bigger car too for less money. To me I would choose Acura just for the driving experience difference. I have a 2011 MDX now I like how it drives more then my 2019 Pilot Touring AWD which I traded in due to that awful 9 speed.

@DavideTestuggine Жыл бұрын
@@jaytibby based on what I see here, it's really not that different. You get many of the same things just re-arranged (that wireless charger that won't work with newer iPhones due to camera bumps, same shifter, same AC). Seats are leather just as well, and you lose that piano black I was never a fan of in the first place. Driving should not be that different either I'm assuming. Should be the same platform and SH-AWD is exactly the same as the Honda AWD they have here. Comparing it to the GLE of a friend, the Acura feels a lot closer to the upper trims of non-luxury brands (Hyundai, this Pilot, CX-9) than to the European premium brands (MB, BMW, or even Volvo). IMHO Honda needs to do some soul searching with Acura and make it more premium. It was always "in between", and with the non-premium brands getting more luxurious, it is getting squeezed out IMHO

I know ground clearance isn't everything, but I'll never not find it amusing that even BASE model Subaru Outbacks have more ground clearance (8.7 inches vs 8.3 inches; and Outback Wilderness editions bump that up to 9.5 inches) than this and other supposedly trail focused SUVs. The main LCD size isn’t the complaint for me, it’s the complete lack of rear screen with dvd/Blu-ray player. I don’t want to have to give my 2 and 4 year old an iPad and headphones for a road trip instead of having the whole vehicle entertainment like my 2008 pilot has. If my kids were in high school and had their own phones it would be one thing but this entertainment system makes it a no go for a lot of young families. Obviously most young families can’t afford a new one now but that sucks for the used market in 10-15 years

Side Note: I checked with the dealer and like the Telluride, the Honda engine is 'direct injection' only.....no dual 'direct/ port injection' setup. This means that carbon on the intake valves will likely be a problem down the road as is common with all direct injection only engines..... which can cause decreased performance, rough running engine, etc.

@@naveenthemachine We can agree to disagree on this one. I used to prefer Honda over Toyota. But I have to call a spade a spade on this one. We're in a market right now, where the Millenials and Gen Z drivers are dominating. That age demographics will not only looking for a dependable vehicle, but the best technology for the money. And that's where Honda is lacking at. They catered more to loyal seasonal drivers (Baby Boomers and Gen X), than attracting younger buyers. So again, why Honda gave the biggest infotainment screen to a vehicle who sales are declining due to crossover and SUVs, and not the their big flagship vehicle, the Pilot? Something got to give and Honda ain't giving it! Now, I only used Toyota as an example, because their arch rivals. But then you have the Telluride, Palisade, CX-9, Pathfinder, Atlas, etc, all pretty much stepped to the plate in technology and performance, making Honda looking kinda lazy.
@jsfbay1 Жыл бұрын
I take it Honda has abandoned their "lane watch" that came out way before Kia started doing something similar on the Telluride (and Hyundai on the Palisade)? That's too bad if true - that's a feature I appreciate, at least in principal and as seen on KZbin videos.

Oh, how we've changed, for some, make or break on buying a vehicle is how big its infotainment screen is. At what point does a giant screen become more of a distraction than an added benefit? To each their own, but other aspects of a vehicle tend to be more of importance to me.

Alex, I believe Honda is misleading the public about their rear storage. This is how Honda defines the rear cargo space: "Based on SAE J1100 cargo volume measurement standard:" 18.6 cu ft "Based on SAE J1100 cargo volume measurement standard plus, where applicable, floor space between seating rows and seats in their forward-most and upright position:" 22.4 cu ft. The SAE clearly says it's 18.6 per their standard measurements, which means the apples to apples comparison to the Telluride puts it way behind the Telluride's 21 cu. ft
