I applaud Honda for actually engineering the V6 to be 50% cleaner. I'm so glad they didn't go the lazy route and throw the 2.0L turbo on there to quickly meet emissions.

This is NOT a lazy road. This is very difficult to do on a technical side aspect. It's a new engine after all you need to integrate. Whatever, in Europe, we are discussing if this strange 2L i4 trend, actually brings fuel economy. You can see Toyota with his 3.5 V6 hybrids, easily underpass the i4's turbo of VW and Volvo in real world application. If your car is big, you need a big engine. But here is the center of the problem. 10% of the readers in this group need big cars. 90% don't need them at all. Because you don't tow, you don't howl, you don't carry a familiy of 3 and more. And this is the center of the problem. We are generating tons of pollution, just because a faith that big car will keep us safe, when it's totally the other way around.

They could have offer inline6 with turbo and keep price at low 40k to start , having tons more torque and overall better build and finish ....sorry Mazda is and have been sooo much better in design and quality than Honda , for many many years now . Keep on buying Honda so I can get better deal on CX90 😉❤

@k domster I consider Mazda to be more up market and premium than Honda. Honda a already had the J series V6 platform to work with and improve on. It wouldn't have been cost effective to make a new straight 6 from the ground up. The J series is a reliable engine when you maintain it properly. The timing belt and VCM are a headache but can be taken care with relative ease. They make good power for a N/A engine and are smooth. I think Mazda made a good choice by fitting the all new CX-90 with a 3.3 turbo staight 6. They did t go crazy with the power numbers either. It only produces 280 hp but it it makes a nice 332 lb-ft of torque compared to the Pilots 285hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The plug in hybrid CX-90 makes 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The plug in hybrids power numbers are similar to the new Acura MDX Type S 3.0L turbocharged V6 witch makes 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque without any electric assist. The regular MDX makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. All in all I think the CX-90 is more comparable to Acura and not Honda.

I'm amazed and pleased that the geese actually like this vehicle! And the convertible 2nd row makes it a top choice for me as well - we have 3 kids and allowing me to have a bench in the 2nd row in the top trim is completely unique to the segment (well, except for the Explorer, and I've heard maybe the Pathfinder, I don't know for sure, but I'm not considering either of those.) I too am waiting for Mazda to get CX-90's out to the reviewers, as it is the 2nd choice for me. 2nd only because unlike the Pilot, I lose a ton of features on the CX-90 in order to keep a 2nd row bench. I.E. the top two trims of the CX-90 force you to get captains chairs. So annoying!

The new V-6 sounds great. I'm sure it will also last forever like most Honda NA V-6 engines. While I love 2 litre turbos for small cars, a V-6 for a larger vehicle like this is almost mandatory. Another *Savage* review.
@an-dr6eu
@an-dr6eu Жыл бұрын
Size doesnt matter but the weight. And a Pilot is not that much heavier than an Accord. A 2L turbo could perfectly do the job while being more simple, reliable and efficient. V6s, even if NA, are just crappy unbalanced engines worse in almost every department than a similar 4L. People always gets dupped because of the 6 cylinders thingy, thinking 6 is always better than 4 and other shit like that. The only thing V6s are good for is racing due to their compactness and shorter shafts. It helps in packaging and decreasing parasitary rotational forces.
@10ee
@10ee Жыл бұрын
@@an-dr6eu A Honda Pilot is over 1000 lbs heavier than a 2.0T 10-speed auto Accord Sport, for example. That is a significant weight difference. To allow for usable tow capabilities, which is a common use case for these types of vehicles, there is literally no replacement for displacement, or you end up going diesel. 6 isn't necessarily better than 4, but in this use case, I believe it is. Otherwise you're going to look at a larger 2.4/2.5 litre turbo 4 which will need balance shafts anyway.

The section about safety at 11:00 is a great segment that doesn't get talked about often, ESPECIALLY by other channels. With GMC Hummer being 9k lbs and able to go 0-60 in 4s, you just HAVE to build vehicles with better crash safety in mind.

And then in bulding safer vehicles, the vehicles then weigh more, so they need more powerful drivetrains to move them, making them faster, making them more unsafe to hit you, causing cars to need to be built safer, increasing their weight, and the cycle continues

I disagree. Watch crash tests from 2005. Cars then met a safety standard which saved lives. With modern materials advances, we could have the same structural rigidity in a smaller lighter shell. Less weight, less power required, smaller brakes, less momentum, better ride and handling, better for the environment. And yet, we go in the opposite direction. The others all focus on the features like cup holders and the removable seat and that's fine to show what's inside the vehicle but you guys showed us what's underneath the sheet metal and how this vehicle drives and handles. Thank you so much. I had a first gen 2004 Pilot which I gave to my mom (she's still has it) when I bought my third gen 2016 Pilot and now I'm just a few weeks away from getting this new fourth gen Pilot. I'm very excited about that but I did look at the Kia, Hyundai, MDX, and the Highlander before making my final decision and I'm glad I stayed with the Pilot - especially after watching this video. The Pilot has never been the glamorous beauty queen of the SUV world, but it does what it needs to do and does it well at a decent price and with traditional Honda reliability. Thanks again for making this video. I really enjoyed hearing from the Honda crew - maybe you could post more of that content - and the graphics were also really nice to see. I wasn't able to get her to see past the shinies and superior interior features of the Telluride to see what made the Pilot a MUCH better vehicle overall until she watched this video with me. As an enthusiast, driving all the other 3 rows was a nightmare. The driver inputs, body control, and suspension characteristics in the competition are absolute garbage compared to the new Pilot. We regularly make a 2 hour drive through very twisty roads and that drive really shows the Pilot's capabilities. We've both been shocked that it handles those roads significantly better than her previous car, a 2019 X3. In the X3 the driver would be exhausted at the end of the drive because keeping the X3 on the road was such a chore. It's a breeze in the Pilot, on top of being significantly more comfortable with more space, better seats and less NVH.

Test drove a trail sport last week and l was surprised at how much I liked it. Feels super spacious with the panoramic moonroof. I’ve test driven the palisade, ascent, Highlander - the pilot was by far the most enjoyable to drive. It’s very confident, smooth, and soaks up the road bumps extremely well.

Of the 3 row SUV’s I’ve looked that this competes with you loose the 8 passenger configuration when you go one trim higher than the base model which is key because if you are avoiding a minivan then you’d want to seat 3 across in the second row. Wonderful review as always!

I'm just going to say, I haven't watched this episode yet, but I know Savagegeese is going to review this vehicle in such a way that they will give me what I need to know about this car before maybe buying it. The other channels seem to mostly just pump up a car and really hit the highlights. Mark and Jack give you what you need to know after the honeymoon has worn off and what this car is truly like to live with, and thats what I love about these guys.

I'm kind of picturing a combination of the old element and the Ford Maverick. Give me a small vehicle footprint, with a durable interior and drivetrain, and a good AWD system. A small but robust tow rating (3500-4000) would be nice so i can tow hay rounds and my Miata when it's broken, but that's secondary. The way the back seats come out of the old element to have a flat load floor still has me contemplating one.
