The Ron Clifton Lectureship in American Studies was inaugurated in 2018 to recognize the long service of Ron to the field of American studies at Salzburg Global Seminar.
This year's lecturer, Tracey Meares, is the Walton Hale Hamilton professor and a founding director of the Justice Collaboratory at Yale Law School. Before joining Yale, she was a professor at the University of Chicago Law School from 1995 to 2007. She was the first African American woman granted tenure at both law schools. Tracey is a nationally recognized expert on community safety efforts, especially in urban communities, and she has worked to transform policy at the local, state, and national levels, including being a member of President Barack Obama's Task Force on 21st-Century Policing. In 2019, Tracey was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Tracey is a Fellow of Salzburg Global Seminar.
