I just bought a new 2022 Highlander XLE, because I did not want the 4 cylinder Turbo Engine. Big mistake Toyota switching to the turbo. It will not be as reliable as the 3.5 V6. I plan on keeping my 22 till it want run anymore. Toyota will lose a lot of customers because of the switch. I was going to buy a new Tundra but they went to the turbo also . I wanted a V8 in my work truck so I bought a Ford F150 with the 5.0 V8. Great video. You do an excellent job. I’m just old school. No turbo’s for me or or V6 turbos in trucks, or electric vehicles as long as I can still get non turbos and V8’s for my work truck Keep up the good work , Brian

Nissan is still using v6 and v8 engines! The rav4 is good. But the older rav4 v6 is a rocket!!
@ryanstadick2892 жыл бұрын
From what I’ve heard from the dealership Toyota dosent want to switch to turbo on any vehicles. The reason they have to is due to government regulations and emissions. If you look at the Mpg difference there isn’t one between the v6 and the turbo 4. They’re doing it because they have to, because of emission regulations everything with a gas engine will have a turbo in the next 5-10 years.

I don’t know why people care about sound, looks, feelings of v6, or power all I want is to get from point A to point B with better MPG as possible. That’s why I got one of these 2023 LE FWD that gives me MPG 36/35 and third-row seats. ) because of mpg I switched from Honda to Toyota.

I test drove a ‘23 xle yesterday and found that the brake pedal seem to be on the hard side. Stopping power is not that great too. Did you feel and observed that as well? Btw, from all the videos I watched here in youtube, so far you are the only one who presented clearly how a second row spacing will look like after the 3rd row seats are occupied. 👏
@brianruperti2 жыл бұрын
Interesting observation. I would rate the braking “sufficient” simply a 7/10. It’s good enough for me. It’s def different than a brand new Corolla or Camry. However since I am used to the Highlander from using so many of them, it’s not even noticeable anymore. It’s normal to me and expectable. Each car I get into, I almost change like a chameleon from muscle memory. Weird I know but I hope you can understand. And thanks! I try to review them from a consumer’s point of view :-)

Do you know if it’s better with premium fuel for 2023 turbo engine? Highlander manual says regular fuel but the Lexus NX350 which has the exact same engine says premium fuel required..
@brianruperti2 жыл бұрын
I would run what the book says because we don’t know if the tuned it a little different or changed a couple slight internals to work for the Toyota. Great question. If you really want to make the turbo last, I suggest top tier fuel when you can (search their website) I also suggest a good 30 seconds of warm up before driving and a good 30 seconds of idling when done driving. But that’s totally unnecessary but if I drove a turbo I would do those. After hard driving and speeding maybe even 2 minutes idling after that drive. But this is totally overkill. But I’m like that. Hope it helps! A couple small turbo friendly habits will make that little turbo last such a long time. But remember Toyota does not require this. Disclaimer: always read your manuals and follow Toyota’s recommendations over the guy on the internet. Cheers! 😎

As we research our 3rd Highlander, ditto comment below - well done, Brian. Most complete and thoughtful review I've seen. Though I much prefer some of the styling in earlier model, we'll buy another. It accomodates our bikes and bins as we travel. Do miss the roomy storage across front panel and larger center console. Wishing bench seat was available in combo. with driver's seat memory setting. Toyota changed to the turbo 4 cylinder for better emissions that have been required. As others, I have concerns about the Turbo since we have had reliable Toyota V6. Comments are appreciated.
@310chris18 Жыл бұрын
Toyota used to make turbo cars in the beginning which still run today. So i wouldnt worry about reliability. The v6 is a good engine but the new 4 cyl turbo is juat as good. Toyota is smart they just dont slap a turbo to there cars like every other car manufacture thats why its taking them so long to finally use turbos. They took the time and years to perfect there engineering before slapping a turbo.

You’re welcome. But my advice, before you purchase a car, always always always ask for a copy of the spec sheet for that exact car, and a copy of the window sticker, and search for the features you need to make sure they are there. This avoids any miscommunication. For example; a car may come with a certain feature, and you were told it comes with it, however it comes in the car if the car has the “X” package. So happens the car you reserved doesn’t have the X package, and you or the sales person forgot to make sure. It’s possible, and happens as we are all still getting used to selling/buying cars that are not physically there to touch. So my advice will prevent that. 🙏🏼
