Quirks that he missed: there is a bag hook on the glovebox latch- the floor of the trunk hinges and offers bag hooks- the trunk area cover can be flipped over and stowed under the trunk floor- the camera systems are ridiculously nice- the turn signal sound - the seat is your ignition key - the entire infotainment is run by google, and it updates over the air- one pedal driving - firm steering wheel feel - the accelerometer in the dash display - the rear light display when you lock/unlock. Its like he phoned it in? I own this car, and it is right quick.

There’s also a hidden credit card holder in the storage space in front of the shifter. And a pen holder just inside the glove box door. Surprised he didn’t mention the plastic rocker panels. That was designed to prevent paint chipping from the AWD system throwing rocks or debris into the lower body - an issue plaguing some other EVs with lots of torque.

1) At least for the XC40 there's an option to get that carpeting in a bright orange, just in case you find the riiiiiptide bluuuuue a bit pedestrian 2) Having seen quite a few of these on the road here in Norway, I'm convinced that the basic roof line design of the C40 is heavily inspired by the 1950's Volvo 544 "PV"

This car is selling well here in Brazil, along with its XC40 brother. Which is remarkable, since electric cars are still not very accessible here and the charging infrastructure is not the best. After a short period of Volvo dominance, now Chinese electrics from brands such as BYD and GWM are growing in sales. Tesla is still out of the market, we only have a few on the roads because its fans decide to spend money on independent imports. I'd say this car's only flaw is that it doesn't have a sunroof shade.

1:16 Yes indeed. The C40 is just a smaller XC40 with a teardrop design, and you should mention that these cars share almost the exact same features and capabilities. The C40’s exterior design is very plain and simple, I like how it secedes itself from the competition’s rough and angry-looking design styles, although they look fine. The funny thing is that the XC40 Recharge also doesn’t have the startup button visible, but instead it’s the same technique as the C40. The color options are great on this car.

Is this like the Polestar? Because it has the same idea of not needing to press a button to start, but my understanding is that there IS a button, but instead of one you press, the "button" is the seat, so the car starts when you sit in the driver's seat. BTW what's weirder to learn is how to shut the car off. You can't turn it off when you're sitting in the driver's seat, since you're still pressing that button. Instead, it will shut off automatically when you exit. Was weird when I rented a Polestar 2, and it took me 5 minutes to work that out, I had to find a video to explain it.

I have a 2022 Volvo C-40 and it absolutely does change lanes for me. You probably had it in cruise control mode rather than "pilot assist" mode, which is a switch using the same button on the steering wheel. It changes lanes and drives for you in Pilot Assist mode. The range though sucks. And the seats aren't ventilated. Everything else is great. The value of these has dropped dramatically though, and I would buy a used one over new for sure. My car, one and a half years old with 10K miles, was $60K and fully loaded, it is now worth $40,000!!!! So crazy. I am giving my lease back next year in search of better range. You really need around 300 usable range to be practical for any sort of travel. For example I frequently travel to a place about 85 miles away, and I can get there and back without recharging. But, that location is in a great city and I often want to drive around while I am there, which requires driving 15 miles out of the way in heavy highway traffic to a fast charing station, and sitting there for half an hour. So I usually skip it. I tried a 2000 mile each way roadtrip last year and it was horrendous to recharge 5 times each day for 30 or 40 minutes, sitting in the sun because that stupid panoramic roof is not adequately UV protective. Now they sell a screen for it but it is $400 dollars. They didn't have that option at the time.
@2nd-place

I actually really like the look of this thing and it seems like it would be great around town. But I refuse to buy an EV until I can get a mid-size SUV with at least 400 miles of AWD range, 0-80% recharge in 30 minutes or less, and has a 0-60 of at most 5 seconds. The price just isn't worth it otherwise. If I'm on a road trip, I want to be able to drive, stop for lunch and charge after 400 miles, then get back on the road and drive another 400 miles and charge at my hotel for the night. Our family does a lot of road trips, especially to remote places like National Parks out west and up into the Canadian rockies. I would consider lower specs for a much lower price. Something the size of a Subaru Crosstrek would be a great city car for my wife (I work from home), and an EV version with AWD for the snow would be great. But I'm not willing to spend an arm and a leg to get an EV version currently. Especially when her commute is only 15 minutes. Hopefully we see more plugin hybrids on the market in the coming years. I would love that option for my Telluride.

I can only assume that the reason why the range is so low is due to the idea of EVs being more of a "Point A to Point B" kind of vehicle and you aren't meant to be going on long road trips. In fact, that's my outlook on EVs as a whole. They're meant to serve as the vehicle you take for your morning/evening commute. The only exceptions would be the Taycan and RS e-tron GT and performance EVs albeit with the caveat of them not having an engine note.

EVs are commuter cars for rich people who drive to work and then drive home to recharge in their garage in the suburbs. If you get out of urbanized areas or off the highway network, chargers become rare to nonexistent. If you don't have a place to plug in every night, it's a massive inconvenience having to sit at a public charger every few days. Even on a road trip, recharge time is slow and chargers can be few and far between. I don't want to sit for half an hour recharging, I want to gas up in 5 minutes, switch drivers and go for another 400 miles before doing it again.

@Black-Villain
@Black-Villain Жыл бұрын
That's kinda misleading unfortunately, it's all about the charging curve, which requires draining it and then plugging in and monitoring to see how it charges. Like the BZ4X AWD (in the US) has a max advertised charging speed of 100kw, but it almost never hits that outside of a short window between like 12-15%, and its charging power drops like a stone after like 25% (and drops under 50kw above 50%), which makes it slower to charge than a Chevy Bolt which charges at a max of 50kw, but it can hold that for most of the charging session.

Turtle comments aside, I like it. What I don't understand is the limited range, given the state of tech these days. I just took my BMW i4 on its first long trip from Virginia Beach to New York. Left my house with a 100% SOC and arrived at an Electrify America charging station in Wilmington (Delaware) 243 miles away and still had 110 miles of range remaining. That worked back to about 4.5 miles/KWH. The advertised range on the car is 282 miles with 19" wheels and I obviously blew past that number by a large margin. I like the crossover style of the Volvo but the short range is a deal-killer for me.
@benjaminsmith2287
@benjaminsmith2287 Жыл бұрын
IF you want more range, get the one that accelerates less quickly. Another issue is the size of the tires. Smaller tires equal more range. They come with 20s for the performance car, 19 is a bit better. But you can't go lower. Volvos will never give great range, just good enough.

The volvo also overperforms similarly to the i4 in good conditions (summertime, flat terrain, not too heavy on the gas). So it's unfair to compare the BMWs best case range with the Volvo's EPA range. Also, the EPA range of the updated 2024 model year is 259 miles for the dual engine, and 290 for the single engine, matching the BMW.
