As the EV truck wars continue, the #Chevrolet #SilveradoEV takes the fight to Ford with the #SilveradoEVWT. Initially launching with a 510 HP dual electric motor setup and a massive 200 kWh battery pack, this fleet-only #WorkTruck can do up to 450 miles of range, about 130 more miles of range versus the Ford Lightning Pro. Sadly, the sub-$40,000 truck is dead as rising production and materials cost have ballooned the price of this truck to just shy of $80k.

This price is nuts for a WT. It’s nowhere near nice enough for someone spending $80K on a vehicle, and way too expensive for fleet work trucks that are going into the field that are going to get beat to hell. But the market will speak on this. They’ll either sell them at the price or they won’t.

There are a lot of possibilities for financing these vehicles as a business. If the operating costs are truly much lower, and they should be, the cost to a small to medium business owner might work.

Do you know what a business pays out annually to keep a fleet of hard working ICE trucks fueled up and maintained? Well please point me to the Silverado EV competitor boasting 450+ miles of range in this segment for _less_ money. This $80k work truck is also the top trim of the WT. There will be lower priced trim levels of the WT available later. Many people buy commercial vehicles that are high trim levels. Not everyone buying a commercial vehicle owns a fleet.

My father is thinking about buying this for his garage door business because he's spending anywhere between 500 and 750 a month on fuel alone. With the 450 mile battery he would be able to pull his trailer and still get around 300 miles of range and that would be enough for him and what he does. He just drop 65 on a new ford early this year so the 15k increase isn't much when you compare that he will be spending around a 4th in fuel costs.

I read the 40K pre-destination is now 50k + 2K for the destination charge for the entry-level retail version. After that, I'm sure the dealers will stack another 5-10K in dealer upgrades.

The sad part is they killed off the $40k one. A GM VP was on Bloomberg a few weeks ago mentioning that the plans for the $40k were still going. Now everything we thought we knew about it are dead. The 4WT has 450 miles range, the 3EV has 350... it is $5k difference, what more could they cut? They didn't even throw in the midgate on this model. A slight price increase I get, but the battery technology is all sourced over multiple years, so there wasn't much surprise in pricing GM has with Ultium like Ford is dealing with. They just made a $30k Colorado for about the same price, this was all about profit with Elon Musk underdelivering and Ford dealing with huge costs increases. I'm going to cancel my pre-order, and just pick up a hybrid Taco when they are released.

@@sic22l Skip this electric pile...... You can have the very top trim with a Duramax 3L and it will have better torque, go almost 1000 miles between fuel ups and get great MPG by truck standards. If you want to assuage your eco-guilt, run it on renewable or bio-diesel. Or get the lowest trim with a Duramax and save 35K and have the same HP and Torque and "Free" fuel for lifem of the truck compared to the EV.

Chevy had the EV Silverado outside of the CMAs showing it off. I was talking to the rep and he swore up and down they'd start at 40k. Knew it was BS at the time, this confirms it.

A few things. First off, gotta give Alex props for not just doing both videos for his own channel and Sofyan's but doing it in drizzling weather as well! 👍 Secondly, when you hear big-time chevy fans shredding this model to pieces based on price, interior quality, and even exterior design - you know something's screwed up over there at Chevy. Third! Even if there is a less expensive model coming - what do they plan on doing as far as cost-cutting? Cause im not sure that will even be a popular low-cost model. Especially when this already has some cheap aspects to it. And we can only expect a lower range and towing caps. Lastly - over 100k for the RST model??? Geez!!! Does Chevy WANT to sell any of these things? I get the whole economy struggles, and cost to build, etc. etc. but this is insane!!! 🤷🤦 My Word, Chevy!!!

Battery makes up most of the price for this model, so shorter range/ smaller batter equals a less expensive version. Cost cutting will be in the form of a smaller battery.

Seems like Chevy is using this new EV as a PR promotion to kill EV interest and increase demand for vehicles with internal combustion engines, lol. There's a lot of interest in EV's, but many if not most people expect an EV to be of comparable price to an I.C.E. vehicle and have comparable interiors. For $80,000 one would expect soft touch surfaces, heated and cooled ventilated leather seats, heads up display, etc. This pickup would be a hard pass for me.

I just priced out the Ford. $75,830 USD. Still doesn't have all the features of the Silverado EV 4WT though (among such options - all the advanced safety features, 4 wheel steering, 100 more miles of range, higher towing capacity, better suspension). I would pay the extra $1,965 for those features IF I wanted the top trim work truck. Otherwise, I would buy the cheaper trim level which we haven't even seen a final price on yet. So stop pouting!

If this truck was half the price of $80k, this truck would be much more justifiable and a steal with the 400+ mile range. Since this is an $80k EV with a “bare bones” interior, this is so overpriced to the point that there are other vehicles with much more luxurious interior materials around $80k. GM needs to get their act together with the prices if they want to get consumers to buy this thing.
