I'm 74 and have been around shotguns since I was 10. Synthetic stocks are as appealing to me as tattoos, private parts piercing and blue hair. I see their advantage for extreme accuracy rifles because they don't warp. But in shotguns, except for maybe for waterfowl applications, give me beautiful wood every time! Having said that, I'm a "to each his own" kind of guy. If you want to have tattoos, pierce your private parts or dye your hair blue, you should be as free to do so as you are to own a firearm! ALL people should be free to do most anything as long as it doesn't hurt his/her fellow man!

We have the Citori Composite in the United States. The action is all black instead of silver. I picked one up recently to serve as a multipurpose/inclement weather O/U. Perhaps it’s a cultural difference but I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on the look of the gun when I carry her from stand to stand. Different strokes for different folks as they say.

To me it just seems less gun for more money. I know prices differ between dealers but nearby it's only 6% cheaper than the Sporter One Adjustable. I've got nothing against a composite stock but they usually represent the much cheaper alternative. If it was priced around £1500 I could understand, unless I'm missing something here?

Browning USA marketing can be mystifying. Our version gets a taller, more sloping rib (like the CX). But otherwise, we're getting shorted. No 32", weight system, or white receiver for us. And only 3 chokes.

Pretty much everyone is used to using the US as their cash cow. Found a specialty tool on Amazon, shipped from Britain, was $100 us. Kept searching, somehow got on Britain’s Amazon, shipped to the US it was $25 from the same company. Not sure who was making the extra 75. Presumably Amazon since I eventually just found the company and bought it directly from them and it was 25 shipped to me. 🤷🏽♂️

100% the Black Laminate, I’ve had mine for a year now and it’s fantastic. I bought it in 32” and it was wicked barrel heavy so I bought the stock weights and I’ve got it on the hinge pin now where I like it. It’s a heavy beast though at 9lb with the stock weights in, I love the heft but it’s not for everyone!

@GazHeaven thanks for the reply, what's the recoil like on it, do you use it for trap, skeet, sporting clays or just game shooting?
@GazHeaven8 ай бұрын
It’s a great all rounder, I use it for trap and skeet but mostly sporting. I don’t do any game shooting but I imagine it’s unorthodox looks might raise some eyebrows if you shoot somewhere stuffy? I’ve done a couple of simulated game days with it though and it’s great. The recoil is negligible, I shoot 27g Superfasts most of the time and between the 25mm recoil pad and 9lbs of gun you can put hundreds through it and not feel beat up 👍🏻

For Browning, this was a good move. The wood stocks on a lot of their guns in this price range are pretty abysmal honestly. At least with plastic you get what you expect, and the fore end shouldn't crack.

After the original video was taken down I kinda felt bad about my original comment regarding their choice of stock material so this time I’ll just say I enjoy you videos. Would like to see a video on the geeky shotgun stuff like lockup styles, pro’s and cons, which guns use which, ejector styles ect, so folks can make informed decisions on what to buy and why. Also old used guns. Have a Franchi falconer international trap on the way, cost me less than it sold for new in 1970. Was a fairly expensive gun in its day. Almost no information available about them or old franchi’s in general. Strange considering Perazzi learned from franchi and they look extremely similar 👍🏼👍🏼
@tonyemans45128 ай бұрын
I do get the virtues of a composite stock and forend, however the price I Agee with others would get you a nice set of wood. Personally I associate composite with cheaper items. If it was carbon now that it’s a high tech expensive material and would justify the additional cost. As you found out, the bits that compensate for the lack of wood which equates to weight you have to pay extra for. Agree the balancing weights should be included.

However, I’m not very tall and need a stock length of about 355 to 360 mm. Do you think it’s possible to shorten the stock of the Browning B525 to that length without encountering issues with the adjustable cheek piece or other parts? Your opinion on this would be very helpful! Best regards from Germany

You lost me at "rubber overmolded grip". WITHOUT fail the rubber overmolding WILL turn sticky or pull loose. I know it looks cool but I don't want it. As the result of a class action lawsuit Browning is still actively replacing stocks that had their Dura-Touch coating fail. Did they learn nothing? You see overmolded rubber on everything from power tool to binoculars to cameras to luggage, etc., etc. and it FAILS everywhere. Just use plain polyethylene with sharp molded checkering and be done with it! Rant over.

The boomer/fudd takes on composite over wood are painfully bad. So many people acting like the wood used on most of these guns is some crazy high end stuff and the price point should be different. Theres not much of a difference in production costs between the two and most of the cost is in the other parts. I get it if you just like the look of wood but functionally theres going to be little to no difference. Even saying the recoil is worse is not really likely assuming you add the weights. Physics doesnt care if its wood or plastic.
