I'd argue nobody buying this NEEDS 3rd rows or they'd be getting something larger. Go rent a minivan for the rare occasion you'd have a 3 row need, and the rest of the time enjoy your BMW. The other thing that would swing perception is long term ownership which I'm going to go on a limb and say the people keeping cars 20 years are not generally the people dropping $80k on a Type-S. Love the bench option in a people hauler👍. It’s a nice enough looking vehicle but I don’t feel anything when I look at it and for it to be a Type S model I feel like it needs more oomph. Something at this price should definitely had ventilated seats in the rear. I feel like the seats are a bit bulky too. Trimming the seats a little may open up a bit more room. Its still half a second slower 0-60 than even the base X5 B58. But otherwise the MDX is quite and actually handles as nicely as comprable X5 models
@mijmic19 сағат бұрын
According to BMW's website, the 2025 X5 x40 (B58) does 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. Per Acura's website, the 2025 MDX Type S does 0-60 in 5.5. So, according to basic math, that equates to 2 tenths of second. If this reviewer's 5.29 fastest time was accurate, that places it right there with the X5. For what it's worth, I'm currently in the market and I'm deciding between both of these vehicles and have test driven each twice. Accordingly, I may have noticed only a slightly quicker straight line acceleration in the X5, but nothing of significance by any means in my opinion. Both handled nicely and closely paralleled each other in that regard. The X5 prices out (apples to apples option wise in comparison to the Type S) at over $9k more per online build.
@ayushmalpeddi279315 сағат бұрын
@@mijmic Germans severely underestimate 0-60 times. Caranddriver tested a 2019 X5 xdrive40i and got 4.9 seconds. They also tested a 2020 BMW X6 xdrive40i and got 4.7 seconds. The X6 is the coupe version of the X5 so basically the same car. Mind you these were older versions with the 335hp and both the X5/X6 weigh the same or more than a MDX Type S. The current new X5/X6 make 375hp and even more torque. Caranddriver has not tested the latest X5/X6 with the updated engines but they did test the BMW X7 with the latest 375HP engine. Guess what? It did 0-60 in 4.6 seconds! The X7 weighs 700lbs more than the X5/X6! Simple math suggests 4.5 seconds or less 0-60 for the latest X5/X6 under caranddriver's testing methods. FYI caranddriver also tested the MDX Type S and got 5.4 seconds. Any way you slice it the X5 is notably quicker in ideal conditions. Also it's a much more efficient. A new X5 xdrive40i is rated 23/25/27 rated for while the MDX Type S is rated for 19/17/21. The X5 weighs more and has a larger frontal area as well. It's kinda embarassing when Acuras top of the line 70K+ car still can't compete with a base BMW X5 when it comes to performance. Now yes, comparably equipped the MDX cost up to 10K less. I'd probably choose the MDX myself too but the performance of the MDX is not very impressive. @@blackwhirlwind1245like any performance vehicle, the MDX definitely does depreciate. You can find low mileage 2022 Type S Advance for $50k all day long. Those were just under $75k 2-3 years ago when new. That’s 33% depreciation in 3 years
@gladdy022 күн бұрын
It will depreciate, but not as much as you might think. Does this isn't some disposable European brand car 😅
@tolu.a97252 күн бұрын
Test drove this car few months ago. As much as I love this vehicle. Until they make it in Hybrids or PHEV, they have to put vents in that third row. Until then, I will never buy it.

If you’re worried about mpg you shouldn’t even be shopping in this category

It's so strange the Pilot & Odyssey always had 3rd row vents but nothing for the MDX

I think the fully loaded telluride for 54k is a better deal and better looking suv (Nappa leather, load leveling rear, hud, suede headliner, 3 rows…)

$75K oof,, lexus TX starts $55k, RX STARTS 49K … mdx is a hard sale when you consider the pricing and also considering accurate just started putting a actual desirable interior in these things…

The MDX is better than both of them in every way RX and tx are the biggest jokes in the class
@JDMHazeКүн бұрын
@ I personally prefer the MDX and I’m a Lexus/Toyota guy, however the price point makes it a hard sale because it’s not significantly better in the performance department, it’s not an X5M ,

17 / 21 mpg is horrible in 2025. It is a Type S though so maybe buyers of that trim don’t care.

Abysmal 17 mpg and that too on premium gas. Shame on Honda.

That MDX still looks amazing every time I see one on the road. Even after several years, I still think this is one of the best looking luxury SUVs on the market. Only thing is that Acura should have turned up the power on that 3.0L turbo V6. 355 HP is good power but I think Acura should be turning up the power to at least 400 HP. But it’s still good performance for what it is. I mean the MDX Type S isn’t a full on X5 M competitor but I don’t mind that.

Other competitors, BMW, Mercedes, etc. have a mild-hybrid solution that helps improve fuel economy. At 17 mpg in the city and almost $80K, I'll pass. Plus 0-60 at 5.3sec is a huge disappointment.

I'm clueless about why someone wants a sports SUV? it's an oxymoron. Low slung and svelte are words that describe a sports car. Not bulbous and frumpy. It's a great looking design but it's still just another SUV.

@jnegooyen is that why Ferrari went mainstream? Because people who buy Ferrari and Lamborghini want their children in back while they do 0-60 in 3 seconds?

@sysadmin76 Like a rampaging elephant! After all elephants can run fast too! But I'd rather be a fast cheetah than a fast elephant. Shamu is barreling down the road again! Needs way more lane space than a two seater. You almost need a landing strip to safely maneuver Shamu.

@blackwhirlwind1245Күн бұрын
I do agree that top speed is a bit low, but honestly, you don’t need more than 110MPH unless you just going crazy and try to race everybody around you, and don’t care about the cops.
