45k is STI pricing for a WRX with some STI bits. For that price, you can get a specced out GR Corolla with F&R Torsen LSDs, which is more comparable to an STI than a WRX tS.

A few things here about the comparison to the STI: - No rod-actuated transmission. - Much weaker transmission. - Electronic steering vs hydraulic. - No LSDs front or rear. - No DCCD (driver-controlled center diff) - Low red line (2005 had 7,000 rpm, 2021 was around 6,700. This is 6k.) - Less power overall. To really be an STI, they'd have to have >300hp, offer a substantially stronger transmission (preferably rod-actuated and not cable), add LSDs front and rear, add a DCCD, and make it more aggressive in appearance. Wish list items would include completely redesigned front and rear bumpers without all of the plastic, and to redesign the fenders so that they aren't plastic. Also, get rid of all of the angles around the wheel well since they don't work well. And get rid of those wheels, they're hideous. This is coming from someone that owned a 2005 STi and loved every moment of it. I'd still be driving it now if it wasn't totaled. I want them to make a proper upgrade to that car.

The mid-cycle refresh is next calendar year, late in the year. All they're going to do is get rid of the fog lamps and use that space to make more functional air ducts that'll cool the brakes, widen the lower grille for more air flow to cool the turbocharger, widen the hood scoop to give the intercooler more air, revise the gear ratios of the manual transmission, sharpen/tighten the headlights to make them look meaner, taillights will remain the same unless they pull a Honda move and smoke out the taillights like they did with the refreshed 2025-2026 Honda Civic Si and if you're lucky, they'll upgrade the processor speed of the 11.6" Starlink Infotainment System because people say how much it is very slow and maybe, just maybe they upgrade the backup camera quality on the infotainment system and the camera takes up the entire real estate of the infotainment system like a backup camera is supposed to. Other than that, the WRX is not getting no more extra power because 3-5 horsepower and torque is too much for them.

LOL this car would be FASTER with FWD! It is slow stock that by removing the AWD system, the car would weigh less and have less powertrain loss leading to better 0-60 and especially 1/4 mile times. Would likely also do as good maybe better on a skid pad considering an Elantra N with similar width tires can pull almost 1g laterally on a 300ft skidpad.
@DragonKnightX12Ай бұрын
Too be fair the Elantra N really isn't any faster comparing manual to manual. The DCT is a different story. The EN just the other 99% of FWD cars has a low cap for tuning wo serious mods. Around 320 whp is the safe limit. On a positive note for the WRX it's still purely AWD and Subaru's old school mechanial system. No getting kicked into FWD on the track like the GR Corolla. You'll never want for more traction. On the downside it's two open Diffs and a vicious center. It's using torque vectoring by brakes to do a job that would be better done by Limited Slip Differentials. The other downside is the manual has tall gearing, you have to go to 3rd to hit 60. It's also the weak link. 400+whp is a dice roll with that trans. And you're only other option is a CVT...lol Safe spot for tuning is 350-375whp. So not much more than the EN in perspective. Honestly if they put front and rear LSDs, and switch to the STI manual or borrow a better one from Toyota. The WRX would be a pretty solid buy.

Pre-pandemic financial and supply constraints made the production of the STI too costly for the targeted demo, so it was not going to sell well and corporate procurement advised not to proceed unless they wanted to sell it at a loss. Subaru already had contractual obligations with the third-party companies they were collaborating with (Recaro, Brembo, etc) and needed to stick to their deal, so the only logical way out was to create "special" trims: TR or the tS. This generation will not see an STI thanks to the Chinese. Not Subaru's fault.

They refused to have a hatch because most Americans (Including me) or even North Americans are not too crazy about hatchbacks.

I will say they rate the WRX 270hp at the wheels, meaning the crank HP is somewhere if not above 300hp. The peak torque also comes at 2,000 rpm meaning a much flatter torque curve! Savagegeese did a nice video on it I believe. Edit: did a quick search and it looks like peak torque comes on at 2k

? Peak torque is around 3000.

They're about to meet their fate after this gen WRX. I can't see the WRX getting a VC gen or whatever they call the next gen and Subaru thinks everybody will run to a CVT-only hybrid e-STI or a fake and silent transmissionless EV STe for a WRX's next generation. If they want an engine that bad to give people a WRX STI, why don't they spend the money and go to Porsche and get the 2.5L Flat Four Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that was in the early model years of this current generation's 718 Boxster and let the STI Division do their magic to make the VB gen WRX STI come to life? I thought automakers read comments? Apparently, Subaru of Japan and Subaru of America Inc. doesn't.

These cars are getting hilarious. Every year they come out with some new more expensive "trim" that has yet to improve engine performance. Meanwhile a 2018 Mustang Ecoboost is still blowing all these cars out of the water from interior, to exterior, to performance and it came out 5+ years ago. Just get an Ecoboost and be better for cheaper

@@BrayZap its called taking corners brother. straight line speed gets boring surprisingly fast, especially if thats all ur car can really do. also im gonna be completely honest man, i would rather bike to work everyday than to drive an ecoboost mustang. im sorry but im not being seen in that. have you ever met a single person that said "wow thats a sick eco boost mustang"? yea me neither.

What happened to the 2.5?😞

The EJ25 is long over after the VA gen retired for the VB. I hear there is a different 2.5 currently that isn't an EJ, but is it anymore or less power than the FA24?

Right. $45,000 was VA gen WRX STI Limited money and STI Series.White money. $45,000 and not a 29 horsepower increase and a 42lb-ft of torque increase either regardless if it's not an STI? Not even the dismantled STI Division would approve of such nonsense.

Had a outback 2021 onyx and hated the touch screen system, laggy, bad, never connected half of the time, and just not fun to use hand more of a safety hazzard to use when things didn't work right. Not to mention the sound system was so bad that I had to upgrade the whole thing and then it was only OK. Subaru is ok as a car to drive but if you looking for things like infotainment system or sound, spend your money somewhere else. But glad they finally catching up even tho they are 5 years late to the game. I upgraded to a bmw x3 m50. Couldn't be happier
