I am just not used to seeing a 40X decked out like that all high speed low drag, I think I still like the vintage look and feel better.

I went into a small gun shop after hurricane Harvey here in Texas curiously seeing what they had to offer. It turned out there was a gunsmith in there that had an interest in it and I had some knowledge of his work so it became a spot I frequented. One day we got to talking guns I was just starting to get interested in 22 shooting and I asked if he ever came across any CMP target rifles like 40x or Winchester 52's. He said I don't have any here but I have some that were brought to me that got flooded during the hurricane I am trying to save. He had nine 40x club guns that he stripped and had the stocks drying and all the metal for each one in various stages of reconditioning. I got really excited to hear more he didn't have much to say just they were in pretty bad shape and he had a load of guns from customers needing saving hundreds in fact. Harvey was a biblical rain storm for this area close to Houston. I waited almost two years trying to get one basically told him name his price he never delivered so I looked elsewhere. I already had plans for having a repeater made I knew some guys that had them and I knew it was going to be costly but I sure wanted one. Anyway, I have a RimX not a 40x but I no longer have the fever. Bought a 513 Matchmaster during the hunt and I really like it of course not even close to a 40x but I have lots of fun with it and it's not near as picky as my RimX. I'm glad you got you one I keep looking right now I would settle for a single shot 40x 22 I chased a couple down only to find a .222 and another centerfire I don't even remember what caliber it was. Both way above my pay scale. I remember seeing some feuding going on about the 40x 22's being made into repeaters around that time some folks allegedly lost their rifles. I altered my 513 some I don't think I could do it to an original 40x now.

Remington actually made a 40x repeater but they were more of a sporter/small barrel setup and are quite rare and expensive. I would like to have one to go with my 40x single shot.

They weren't that light. With a 3x-9x Leupold mine weighed in at 9 pounds. They were a full-size rifle.

If you have a Remington 597, I would love to see a video on that! I bought one years ago but don't shoot it much. I can't find many stocks for it either, it's kind of a cheap model.

Hi Josh This is off subject but I have a question. Do you ever use chamber flags and if so what type? I have regular 22 flags but have been looking at the flags that insert like a magazine. Reason being that my CZ 457 MTR has the smallest match chamber allowed by CIP and I am hesitant about picking up grit or any other foreign material and sticking it in the precision chamber. Thanks love your videos 😊😊😊

Honestly i can go back and forth between them and cant really tell any appreciable difference after a magazine

I'm curious what your impression is of the 540? I realize it's not a high precision rifle at this level.
@Stickbow19807 күн бұрын
For ridiculous accuracy in a " non" match chamber you absolutely cannot beat the heavy barrel $300 savage mk ll Mine actually outshoots a couple of my match guns if I do my part... The savage mk ll is a legit tack driver that can shoot keyhole groups at 50 yards and I've shot several strings of less than a half inch at 100 yards with that little rifle....

Had a 541T very accurate but still short pull for me.
@John.VanSwearingen7 күн бұрын
The 513T Matchmaster was pretty full-size. Length of Pull is a little short until you’re prone and slung up in a heavy shooting coat. They’re sized for that kind of shooting. All the old match rifles are like that (Win 52, etc.).
@DFOOSKING6 күн бұрын
541S and 541T weren't even the top of line during their run. 540X and 540XR were actual target guns. And I'm pretty sure you still could order 40X's through the custom shop. The 37 pre-dated them by about 30yrs.

Something does not add up in my pea picking brain : 22 rimfire short barrel add suppressor get better broups. Why not beginf with longer barrel, 24 inch. All a suppresor does is extend that barrel , reduce gases = less velocity and collects dirt in the device. Why add a suppressor ? It aint that cool.
