Download the comic here stimuluscomic.com/24hrComic2017.pdf Although you're technically allowed to do a bunch of single panel pages like I did, it's not ideal. Next time I'll stay awake for the whole 24 hours and make a much more detailed comic!

@kuldas92996 ай бұрын
Done this twice. To get the best art DO THE MATH. 24 hours. 24 pages = 1 hour per page. TELL YOURSELF TO PENCIL A WHOLE PAGE IN A HALF HOUR. Streamline your style. It's not a beauty contest..it's a storytelling contest. Pick a random word, make that the title and then improvise the pages. Spend about 30 mins on pencils. 30 mins on inks. You will get faster without sacrificing quality. You will probably finish early. You will be amazed at how the story somehow completes itself.

This video was way too short for satisfying me! Another way to put it would be that it was the perfect length and left me really wanting more instead of bored. But frankly, I would have loved watching a LOT more footage. Next time you do it, you should get someone dedicated to just filming you. I arrived on your channel because I was trying very hard to find videos of the 24-hour comic challenge as well as actual examples of the resulting comics (they're hard to come by!!) Did your friend finally finish his own 1-million-hour comic? Is it available on the internet somewhere too? It was a real pleasure reading yours. To be frank I was really surprised by the quality of the both the drawing and the story. To my personal taste, yours was much better than Mccloud's 24-hour comic original. Coming up with stories is my handicap so you have all my respect for transforming "a man has sex with aliens" into a rather interesting and intelligent storyline! The process you went through seems like magic to me, you should make a video about "how" you did that. Anyway, congratulations for brilliantly succeeding at this tough challenge (and with beers!!)

Thanks dude, I'll get someone to film us next time for sure! My friend never finished, but he helped me with my latest comic stimuluscomic.com/stimulus4.pdf You also might want to check out John Truby's "Anatomy of Story." It breaks down writing into a simple formula (that can even be applied to low brow 24 hr comics). And if you're looking for more 24 hr comics, David Chelsea has TWO VOLUMES and they're worth reading

I did two 24hcd so far. There are some things which make it easier. Simplify your style. Train that before you start the 24hcd, keep the figure as simple as possible. Don´t draw anything you have to sketch and construct. Draw a bean with legs and arms with an egg as the head for example. Or make a comic about just the egg with legs and arms. Something that looks good and takes you one minute to draw without looking at references. Don´t overthink the story. It´s better to only prepare a simple character when you go to the 24hcd and not write a story before because of the experience writing while you are drawing and I made the experience that artists who write the story before start overthinking and don´t finish the comic. There should have been more online corona 24hcd in october 2020. I haven´t heard of any and I would have really liked that

@ArtwithAmarBrisco6 жыл бұрын
Good job for 24 hour but it looks more like a comic strip than a comic. Most comics average like 5 - 9 panels per page. These challenges are great practice but are really hard to crank out a fully rendered comic that will be used as part of a series. In 24 hours you can generated the mockup for a comic maybe even a satire comic. But to do idea, concept, thumbnail/roughs, pencils, ink and color plus lettering in one day is impossible. Especially if you are also applying a style to your comic as well. Thanks for sharing though.
@STIMULUSVIDEO6 жыл бұрын
I agree and that's the point I made at the end -- I started doing a lot of one panel pages because I knew it was the only way to finish, which isn't great. But, you should read the original 24 hour comic by Scott McCloud scottmccloud.com/4-inventions/24hr/first/01.html -- it's surreal, has almost no coherent narrative, but is fully rendered for what it is. See what you think...
@ArtwithAmarBrisco6 жыл бұрын
Thanks I saw this before and I also saw the documentary on this. I thought it was cool in practice but didn't see it as tool for creating finished comics. It does give you what most artists need the desire to take an idea from concept to completion. The more you do this is gives you more confidence to more with your ideas and complete them. Again I like the idea it is like a Game Jam or Web development done for an application in a weekend. I missed this one this year but next year I will take off from work and do it as well then I can come back to this post and see if I have egg on my face or have a completed comic to share as well. In both cases have a new understanding for this exercise because it is similar but some what different from doing a standard 24 page comic.
@STIMULUSVIDEO6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, I think of it as a creative exercise more than anything. Rapid prototyping is valuable in any medium, and helps force someone out of writer's block. This year, instead of doing the 24 hr challenge I drafted a very short comic in 4 hours, then took a few days to rework it. I'll post it next week. Good luck in your efforts 👍 No need to wait til next year, go for it

@@STIMULUSVIDEO I wonder. after thumbnails and concepts. Can starting with drawing what is supposed to be the highpoint of a particular issue or scene, (i.e. what you feel the strongest, or is most crucial, to get out, then working non chronologically to fill up the details) be a possible way of working?
@STIMULUSVIDEO6 жыл бұрын
@m420b Makes sense to me. Similarly, the guy who does the most 24 hr comics, david chelsea, often works without any plan and just starts inking. When some of his stories ended too quickly, he would have to throw in a non-sequitur series of pages at the end, which is kind of funny
