Mark did a repair of £25,000 Phono Pre-Amp in his last video. But the video got taken down by the manufacturer! You can learn about the story in this breif video synopsis. Obviously, Mark has been very careful to not infringe on any of their "copyright" in this video. Fair use, fair use.... Oh, and here's to our Right to Repair!
You can support Mend It Mark on Patreon, if you like:

With your permission, I would like to re-upload your original video to my channel. Then, if a fraudulent copyright claim is filed on my channel, I will fight it to the fullest extent of the law, to the point that a lesson is learned to never do this again. You do good work, sir, I respect your work, and I want to help send a message to companies that do this kind of abuse that it doesn't work.

But how can it be the manufacturer that sent the takedown if they were the one who sent it to Mark? They somehow didn’t know Mark would put it on youtube. Sounds very unlikely. I think someone read the thread over on diyaudio (which is very supportive of Mark, and somewhat supportive of Evans) and just decided to troll.

After seeing Rosmann's video and reupload on NickT6630's channel I have to say something. At first BIG respect to you, Sir Mark for doing this repair,reverse engineering It and showing the people about this how do I call It-scam. I mean 25.000 pounds for some garage made science project worth 100eur in material? Plaastic circuit board holders and so badly designed?Not to mention copper "covers" with the holes made by some kid,and "PLASTIC" screws holding cooling for the transistors? NO COMMENT. Come on this is a big shame for our technical field. I as engineer was feeling bad and ashamed what I've seen inside of that "premium" ovepriced junk. I have no words for It. I've seen a lot of bad stuff but this, with that price tag is probably worst I will ever see in my lifetime. Thank you for your video It was really educating and usefull. God bless you Sir!

You might be able to fast talk me into believing cheap electronics can make audiophile grade hardware. Like if what you were paying for was extreme parts binning for low noise, that would be fine. But for $25k you can build a much better enclosure without cutting into your profit margin too much. There are hobbyists doing much better work just in terms of fit and finish. This is pretty embarrassing and that's probably what the manufacturer is trying to hide.
@SharienGaming

@@freyalewis2460 yeah i think you can get some pretty good audio with cheap components and assmebly like this... but none of that justifies the pricetag at that price, i would expect the thing to be a fraction of the size with an integrated powersupply and a lifetime warranty (mine, not the devices)... and even then that still feels like a stretch... like none of the principles inside of that thing require crazy levels of expertise or skill in assembly... it requires some sure... but im betting if i ask around among the second year university students for engineering faculties, someone could build something like this

Congratulations on reaching 100K. The copyright and flagging system on KZbin is very random, and often false flags. Every one of my strikes has been completely nonsensical. I really thought they'd tell you the specific thing that caused the strike though, whether it was music or artwork. Although my recent strikes had no information about the cause and I couldn't get that answer from KZbin. It wouldn't surprise me if entire technical channels get deleted in the future because we probe about in live electrical equipment and it's deemed dangerous.

Existing is dangerous. They're going to get a very vocal and well-funded fight if they try and remove the technical stuff from YT. I'll just cancel Premium and move to Floatplane if they pull some BS like that. Actually, I kinda want it to happen. If Floatplane gets much bigger, they'll need more people. I just might be able to get a remote job with Floatplane. I already get my music somewhere else and run a home server to access it anywhere with internet. I can add music remotely, download to my device, give friends access, etc. You might be surprised how much music, videos, and lyrics you can stuff on a 500GB M.2 drive. YT is going to lose their monopoly if they don't stop pushing good creators to other platforms. Twitch is in trouble, too. It seems that these companies couldn't make an intelligent move to save their own butts. It's all just shady, dodgy, underhanded BS. Anything to drive profits, as long as it's not honest or ethical.

Good professionals are like that, they share their knowledge, they don't hide anything, and they enjoy sharing techniques, methods and information. Everyone wins. Unfortunately for Tom Evans, I am speechless. I don't know him and, frankly, I don't want to. What I saw was a terrible product, assembled in an amateurish way, a disgrace to electronics. 25K euros? Now I have to add; I had never heard of Mark or this channel. I watch many electronics repair channels, or I did until I found this, thanks to LR. I have been binging on Mark's back catalogue, and now have to pace myself so I don't run out. It has been an interesting journey, watching Mark's past three or so years condensed down to a month. What's astonishing is how little he has changed as his subs grow. I notice mainly a growth in his confidence, not in his abilities which speak for themselves, but with his audience. We now see a little more of Mark, when he subtly jokes with us, but the core is a bloke who is totally passionate about what he does and is simply delighted to share it with us. I don't watch Mark because he is a master technician ( he clearly is ), as there are plenty of them all over YT, along with many who are not. I watch him as he humbly takes us on the journey, admitting his mistakes, acknowledging his rare failures, and just being a decent, honest bloke who you might meet at a pub with a dart in his hand. I dunno if Mark goes to pubs at all, I am just saying he is an unassuming genius who deserves far more subs than the pretentious people who actually get them. I can never do what Mark does, as much as I would love to. I just love his channel, and wish there were more like it. Hello and greetings from Germany from an electronics engineer who also learnt his trade at a university over 35 years ago. You show in an entertaining way how in the past, as well as today, very expensive snake oil was produced and sold in the audio sector. Tom Evans' reaction indicates that he is obviously now realising that he has also produced a little snake oil or, as you have seen and shown, he has simply recognised very well how to create an expensive product using standard circuit designs, some of which are taken from manufacturers' operation manuals. However, I think it's very dubious to strike back via copyrights now and I believe that this action will be pretty bad for him for marketing reasons. So keep up the good work of repairing beautiful old and expensive things. Best regards, Jens

I saw your video posted by another user and found it fascinating for a number of reasons. First of all, I learned several great tricks I hadn't seen before such as plugging in the shorted device board and watching the overheating component using a flir camera, heating a screwdriver to melt a slot into the broken screw in the standoff, repairing the broken cover, and some great soldering techniques. I found your whole approach to troubleshooting exceptionally efficient and well explained. As for the copyright strike, I truly don't get this at all. With 124,000 subscribers (+1 more) essentially you are exposing this product to a huge number of people who otherwise would never have heard of this manufacturer. Clearly these are being hand built judging by the workmanship, so what is the point ... are they ashamed of their work, the price, the right to repair? Watching the video, honestly I was mostly captivated by the troubleshooting and repair than the actual product. It could have been any electronics equipment really. Chances are this manufacturer does not have deep pockets, it's not like they are Sony or something, so I wouldn't get to concerned about it all. Glad to be a new subscriber.

He discussed the reverse engineered schema's for the main amplification sections, which in itself is not a copyright violation. Also, as I said elsewhere, you grossly underestimate the economics of small series production and mark-ups in the chain. The 25k is a retail price. Dealers take a hefty chunk of that. If this is truly hand-built (and there is no evidence to suggest it isn't) then another significant chunk of that money goes to components and time spent. Apparently that, the time and effort to build a brand, perform marketing activities etc. are things a manufacturer is not allowed to be compensated for, in your opinion.

Mark, I have virtually no electronics experience. I've built a few tube amps from kits and I can usually tell a capacitor from a resistor from a transistor...but that's about it. I don't really understand how it all works but STILL I find your videos compulsively watchable. Your affable, self-effacing, and very British humour is extremely entertaining. Proud to watch and be subscribed to your channel even though I don't understand most of what you're doing. Cheers from Wisconsin, America!

Fortunately I've seen the original video and and was really shocked what could one try to sell for that money. Also wiping off the names of the components is just really pure and insecure. Good and reasonable manufacturers rather show "inside" pictures of their products that you can appreciate their craftsmanship. Good lesson about to be careful and know what you are buying and spending money for. Many thanks Mark for your great educating and entertaining videos. Keep going.

Not just insecure, but outright fraud and deception. "Hand matched, hand crafted, only 10 a year, blah blah blah blah". Nope. Just decent off-the-shelf components using the reference designs.

I watched the original video and was astonished at the apparent low quality construction of this "high-end" pre-amp. At the 25k GBP price point I would have expected a "no holds barred" top notch designs for both the electronics and the case. Hmmm... Mark, thanks for the great repair video's. It's a lot of fun and educational to watch you troubleshoot and repair anything that comes your way. You're a highly talented Engineer!

Not snake oil, per se, it's actually good. The circuits themselves aren't a secret either and fairly easy to design, not for the layperson, but for most, if not all, electrical communications engineers. Those will be aware of the difficulty of sourcing, selecting, and matching the parts as well, that's where a lot of time and money has to be spent. It's still way overpriced IMHO. The really shocking thing is the construction. Noone, and I mean NOONE, should be fine with putting their name on a product, built this poorly. If they consider this good craftmansship, which they obviously don't, they must be delusional. In this case they're just a greedy narcissistic AH.

I own a valve phono pre-amp, nice and simple, a pair of ECC83s, a handful of resistors, capacitors, diodes and a simple power supply, built for me by my dearly departed friend Glenn Croft. It cost me £150 as I supplied the enclosure and transformer. It sounds sublime. I'm prepared to state that the Tom Evans Master Groove phono pre-amp is not 166 times better by any metric whatsoever.
