He lost alot of steam after getting mauled by khabib. He was generating massive clout up until the fight and had everybody eyeing in on the fight. Everybody I know who isn't that big of mma fan was excited for the fight and predicting a win for Conor especially with the trash talk and disrespect he showed khabib. All that talk and hype only to get dismantled by your opponent gotta hurt 💯 and to top it all off, khabib jumped on his team creating an even better encore. Then losing to Dustin by KO was the last straw.

7:39 No, the UFC didn’t handpick Dustin Poirier. The UFC wouldn’t let Conor fight in 2020 (because they didn’t want him fighting in front of no fans) so Conor had to pressure the UFC into giving him a fight by threatening to fight Poirier for free in an exhibition. This is important to the timeline because Conor lost major momentum in 2020 after beating Cerrone. He is a fighter that thrives on being highly active and was stripped of that opportunity

Everyone remembers the losses he suffered against khabib and Dustin but i really think he crumbled after the loss to Nate. He came back and won a rematch but it wasn't the resounding defeat he wanted and it certainly didn't return him to his former glory. I think he was crushed by that loss and the fact that he couldn't just dominate Nate in the rematch with his strength.

For a couple of years he could back up the hype. But consider he was gifted a title shot after only 6 wins against guys who at best were up and coming, and also got to use months of media against Aldo, who is quiet, respectful, and who barely speaks English (and never got a rematch), the cracks show much earlier. He was just as much hype as he was skill. And Cerrone was basically a favor. Past his prime and a slow starter to boot? Plus they purposely picked a guy he’d beaten prior, hoping history would repeat itself. Thanks Uncle Dana. Of course his fans will be in denial forever regardless.

He was nothing but hype. The entire way. But nobody was allowed to call it so. He only ever dominated smaller fighters which he starved himself to face. Why do people forget he looked like a crazy, emaciated meth-head for most of his fights. He was taller, had longer reach, denser bones used to carrying more weight. And he was/is guy who walks around at a considerably higher weight class than all the people he steam-rolled. The proof is the first guy he fought who was taller than him (Diaz) is the one who beats him. And don't even try saying that Nate starved himself to make weight.

@mkn.567 Жыл бұрын
@@stevenwohlrab4764 Won? By decision. How can you even compare that to his supposedly gloriously dominating wins of the past when fighting shorter fighters in divisions he had no business being in. (Keep in mind there has been discussion about not allowing extreme weight cuts because it is in fact viewed as being unfair to fighters who legitimately belong in those weight classes.). Connor also accomplished his "win" over Nate by staling, watching the clock, and literally turning his back to run away from Nate. And then he wasn't man enough to do the trilogy.

Is say Dustin first fight was the worst. Realistically part of him must of known he was unlikely to beat Khabib but when he came back after Khabib had left he really thought he could beat the rest and be champ again. He picked Cowboy as a comeback and finished him easily. He then thought he would beat Dustin easily like before and have a free trip to a title shot but Dustin made pretty light work of him, that really broke him.

In my opinion the fight that changed Mcgregor was the one you brushed over, the Mayweather fight. People forget after hitting Floyd woth a good shot early that Mayweather spent most of the fight walking down an exhausted Conor and punching him at will. Watched the UFC from the days of It being shown for free on Spike TV. In all the UFC Male Fighters Conor got the most marketed. The UFC spent millions on promoting him. Billboards, Tv shows , Magazine. He was promoted as the Face of the UFC. The UFC needed a male fighter who was good at fighting but even better at selling an Image. They made Conor a celebrity fighter. A shows man. Every even he fought was pitch as the Superbowl of the UFC. People paid to watch Conor fight just so they wouldn't feel left out the next day. His Aura was that hyped. When he lost to Nate everyone saw what his weakness was. Conor was, is a good fighter that was marketed as a great fighter.

I think it was Floyd fight that broke the spirit. He talked so much smack and really wanted to knock him out and after he lost, he was like OK, let me just not think about it anymore and spend my millions. Then at the Khabib press conference you already saw how he wasn't the same mentally anymore, that's why he was drunk. He was clearly scared of Khabib. Also seconds before the fight began he avoided eye contact, kept looking up to the ceiling, which he never did before.

@@Gordon.Pinkerton Most people knew, but Conor? He's a competitive fighter, why wouldn't he try to win? It was Floyds last fight and Conor could've been the first fighter ever to beat him. Obviously that was very unlikely but still he had the chance and it was the last chance. That would've been huge for his legacy. That loss definitely got to him in someway but the money kinda wiped his tears. Also he was talking mad trash of course to sell the fight, but back then he was known for predicting his wins. Why make a fool out of himself knowing he will lose? Doesn't make sense to me. But I respect your opinion.

One of the best examples of this in boxing was Sergey “The Krusher” Kovalev. From 2014-2016 he seemed like an invincible monster. Smashing up B-Hop, Knocking out Pascal twice and even knocking a guy down w/ a jab gave him this Mike Tyson like Aura. He then had his two fight with the great Andre Ward. First fight didn’t really damage him because he knocked down Ward early and most observers had him winning the fight. But in the rematch, Ward attacked the body viciously and ended up stopping Kovalev as he crumbled in the corner. His next two fight were easy rebuild fights but then he fought Eider Alavarez. Eider was undefeated and probably ranked in the top 10 at the time but wasn’t seen as an elite guy. But Eider caught him in the middle of fight and knocked him out cold. Kov won the rematch but his next fight was against Anthony Yarde. Yarde is a freak athlete but didn’t start boxing until like 18 and only had couple amateur fights and didn’t even have 20 pro fight yet. But Yarde actually hurt Kov bad to the body around rounds 7-9 and came close to stopping him. Lucky for Kov, Yarde gassed out and Kov stopped him but still was a rough performance. Kov is then KOed by Canelo and I don’t know what he has done since but once his invincibility aura was gone, Kov was done for.

So no commentary on the l intake of steroids in the past years? Crashing a bus with civilians, islamaphobia, punching an old man at bar...? No? Nothing? There was more to the end of Conor's mystic than just losing. Sure, some of the "die hard" fans overlooked it, but for the regular lover of the sport, we've been done with him for a long minute.

I always find it interesting how regular average people in the world like us who are probably somewhat unhappy because we never pursued our passions mainly because of fear and somebody like Connor who was completely passionate and 100% absorbed in MMA at least for most of his career found success and found wealth in found Fame but more importantly inspired most of us because he had the balls to pursue something that was more than likely to fail and it didn't fail it superseded his expert expectations his team's his family's and now for that he's on his way out and his run is over people want to talk s*** I get it his attitude changed he certainly went off the deep end with his ego but at the same time if any of us found that kind of success we have no idea if we wouldn't end up behaving the same way we can sit in front of our computers are phones at our regular little life and say no I know I'd never do that in reality though that's a lie because none of us have any clue how that life would affect us
