Right from the independence Congress depended on the British policy of divide and rule. Congress marketed poverty as the biggest achievement of India and that we are capable of questioning the developed world with empty stomachs. Congress divided Indian society based on caste system (without every wanting to bring the poor people (across the caste and communities) to the forefront. It did not believe in empowering them but gave them crutches when the poor people about to fall to stand on. Nehru and Gandhi allowed the members of those who chose for a separate homeland just to create vote bank and allowed to spread their ideologies all in the name of secularism. Congress cleverly created a vote bank equation to remain in power which is why it could continue as the ruling party for nearly 60 years. The rules of the game changed when European Gandhis tried to apply the same divide and rule tactic before a much more capable Modi. Modi called out the duplicity of the family which Congress party. Third rate historian like Guha thinks that he is the apostle of democracy and free thinking but would never accept a democratically elected leader. Guha and Thapar should thank their stars they continue to live in India. I can count 1000 of good things that Modi did in the last 7 years but Guha sees only the artifical communal issues created by the likes of Guhas, Thapars, NDTVS and other family fed disgruntled guys who used to get paid large sums when the family was in power. Guha should note that those goods days for these parasites have long gone. Neither India or vast majority of Indians do not need their opinion leave alone their views.

However, he introduced IT in India in late 1980s which is paying dividend now (150 USD export). He also allowed Private Engineering/Medical colleges to set up as Govt doesn't have sufficient fund to open more colleges. He was about to open the market economy after 1990s. but unfortunately, he was killed. Congress is still relevant with mixed economy policy for India. @Asif Riyaaz Complexities are at many levels and too deep. 1. Lack of Unity within opposition- No single party cspable of taking BJP head on. Evrn rejuvenated congress party won't be able to. This is so complex ! ( which is ehy it has not fructified yet ; Opposition parties are fighting with each other gor bigger space instead of fighting together ) 2. Countering BJP propaganda BJP has succeeded in its propaganda of being Nationalist party. Balakot , Article 370 move etc have sanctified such claims. Opposition parties need to work hard to show people the falseness of BJP propaganda 3. Countering Modi's image Modi has succeeded in conveying lot of people that he is not corrupt. The Rafale deal is a massive scam but Modi govt managed to fool people and Ranjan Gogoi the thrn CJI helped. There have been msny scams but opposition parties have failed to agitate enough snd gorce govt the way BJP did during CWG , 2G scams. Opposition parties need to show consistency and unanimity. When Rahul Gandhi tried his best to bring Rafale scam yo forefront other opposition parties stayed aloof. 4. Countering BJP's Communalism under the garb of Hindu Nationalism . BJP has managed to convince large number of Hindus ( not all ) that past governments mollycoddled minorities and appeased them at cost of Hindu majorities. BJP have convinced lot of them that they have managed to show Muslims their secondary status within Hindu Nationalist theme. Opposition parties are finding it hard to counter and they are afraid to stand up for Secularism for fear of angering hindu majority and consequrnt loss of hindu votes ( which is why RaGa becane Janeyudhaari and Kejriwaal started offering free Ayodhya pilgrimage and all ). Opposition parties need to be tactful becausd Secularism has become much abused word ( unfortunately). Opposition parties need to expose real divisive agenda of Sangh parivar. 5. Calling the bluff of Developement Under Modi's watch India has fallen dangerously low on all major develoepmental indices. Opposition parties have failed to highlight this. They are too lazy. This is the fight for the soul of India. It can't be fought on Twitter. Parties need to get down on the streets and connect with people and do actual ground work consistently. Occasional meal in the home of Dalit , poor people is not the solution. Parties need to work hard. BJP has strong cadre ; their leaders and workers engage with people. There are many more things that Opposition parties will have to do just to even give decent fight to BJP. Otherwise time will come when BJP will destroy parliamentary democracy. They are in fact almost done with it by making Election Commission and Judiciary subservient. Just read what Delhi Chief Justice said today ....you will get an idea how rotten has become our Judiciary. Challenges are many fold and widedpread enough. Just changing Congress leadership will not amount to anything much unless other things also happen.

However Modi and Sangh Parival have advanced their agenda to the point where Congress has become irrelevant or less consequential. Indians don't understand scary plan that Sangh Parivar has got for India. They plan to convert India into One party state like China but with in nature and economy like Pakistan. Under Sangh Parivar's plan India is being turned into Hindu Pakistan being ruled by One Party State of BJP. We will have worse of both China and Pakistan under BJP rule. I don't really agree with Guha's views. Asking the Gandhis to go, is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Yes, they need to be electing a leader of the party officially. Two, we need to have physical paper voting mechanism back. If I can remap the ECU of a car, remapping the EVM is as easy. Get rid of EVMs. Last, but not least, the day the Gandhis stoop to communal speeches, they will begin to win elections but then the Congress party will become BJP2 party. So Guha, if u suggest a change at Congress, who do u suggest becomes its leader, Amit Shah?

That is wonderful and real thoughts on congress affairs. A party which does not change its president for 21 yrs and without president since 3 yrs ? Bjp / modis are destroying indian economy, communal harmony &peace. China has encroached our land, made villages.Hundreads of Soldiers are martred without war. It is not the congress. It is the constitution. All states should have equal MP representations, and it shouldn't be population based. Only states should have MLA representation, based on their resident population. It brings a safety factor, and fortifies people centric government. The union government should have jobs reserved for every states at all levels. Otherwise, only certain states exert dominance in electing governments, through over representation. It's power overwhelms the government as a whole. It does damage the country's pluralism, secularism, democratism , Federalism or whatever.

It was adopted and accepted after several rounds of discussion by all political parties of that time , i think 4 or 5 parties, including congress, hindu mahasabha, muslim league , and with Christian leaders. So it was not written by congress.
