I made master project lists years ago, such as packing lists for trips, health seminars I teach, and for events like Christmas, and so on. I put each in a clear plastic sleeve and keep them in my household management binder. I use erasable markers to add anything additional for that particular time, and to cross off items as I pack or do things, making it easy to see what's left. Then when I'm finished, I just wipe the plastic cover clean for next time. It has SO simplified these projects. And because the master is in my computer, I can change them as our needs change.

Good to see you back, Steph! I'm sure you already know, but I find the Getting Things Done system works really well along with Flylady - it takes the Brain Dump one stage further, putting things into action categories. My productivity increased tenfold by using that one simple extra step. Take care and lots of love to your Mum and the wee ones! 👏😀💖

I love brain dumps - and I have found when I do those I never have as many things that need doing as I am telling myself I have to do and getting overwhelmed. I don’t have little kids but 2 parents in their 80’s that I am becoming increasingly responsible for so lists are my best friends!!! Love the vlog!!! 😊

This isn’t something that you would need often, but I thought it was a good idea so I thought I’d share. Years ago when my oldest sister was graduating HS my Mom was planning her graduation party that would take place at home and she would be preparing the food for. Since I was graduating 2 years later Mom knew she’d have to do it all over again so she kept track of how much food she needed and how many supplies she needed so when it was my turn to graduate she could refer back to her list. It made things much easier for her. Even if you’re using catering for a graduation party you could still track how much and what food was used.

I think the master list for different events is so key. My mom was fantastic with those kinds of lists. After I got married I copied as many of those as made sense for my family. I've tweaked them though the years but they are incredibly helpful! I laughed once visiting here after our kids were born. She had a list on an inside cupboard doors of foods my kids did and didn't like 🙂

My best list is my full grocery list. That's the list of everything I might buy. I came up with it when covid hit. No longer shopping in store and not seeing shelves made it hard to remember to buy things I needed. So while shopping at computer I would consult my list before clicking Place Order.

I started a personalized full list this week and it’s seriously a game changer. I got it laminated at the office supply store so I can mark what I need with a wet erase marker throughout the week. It also has my favorite and memorized recipes at the bottom so I can circle what meals I want to make and then grocery shopping is a breeze.

I keep a master list for meals and groceries! I have a list of our current favorite dinners (15 or so) and when I sit down to plan I pick 6 or 7. I go through and make sure I have, or write down, everything for those dinners. Then I have a master grocery list of all the snacks, lunch and breakfast foods we like to have on hand. I circle the kitchen with it in hand and cross off what we still have enough of. I order groceries for pickup once a week and it takes about a half hour from meal planning to checking out. I rarely forget anything vital, and I don't have to keep our tiny kitchen over full.

I call the 'packing lists' CHECK LISTS... if Pilots use them for every take off I can certainly benefit from them. As a musician, with multiple instruments I have used check lists for every scenario for years. Many are laminated. You can NOT be missing anything when you turn up for a rehearsal or concert. People have been fired for not having a pencil! Also my hubby is doing great now, but after heart failure, I also made check lists and attached them to bags for emergency hospital trips...which we never needed :)

I have watched all of the Mayday Air crash Investigation and have seen how important those lists are and the devastation that can occur when those lists aren’t followed - but how clever of you to put that thinking into everyday life!!! We think we can remember everything but how wonderful is it to have a check list you can grab just to double check you have everything that is needed. Those lists are excellent too for packing things up the night before so that you have everything you need for the next day. So glad you have not needed the check lists for your husband - hoping his good health continues 😊

Thank you for your video! Love your channel! I’m a working mom of a teenager, so I created a very simple todo list for my lifestyle: I divide a page into 4 sections - work, personal tasks (includes all that concern home, bills, errands, beauty, personal projects so on - not work tasks), child tasks (what I should do for her/with her) and health. The last one may change depending on what sphere of live I need to pay special attention to. This simple system in-addition to routine lists and zone cleaning/check lists helps me to clean the brain but keep all important spheres of my activity under control as well 🌞

Every night before bed I update a white board next to my calendar... it's not very big about a 1 foot by 2 ft... it has the date, agenda for the day, countdown to fun things, kids' extra money earned and a "needs" list anyone can add to so everyone isnt' coming to me all the time saying "we're out of this!" I also put tomorrow's dinner on there. We also sit down and do a family meeting every Monday and talk about that week, the next month, big plans, needs list, allowance updates... it's a great way to get everyone on the same page!

It's not a flaw. It's a tool for organizing a creative mind. Don't talk about yourself that way. I bet you wouldn't talk to someone else that way. I love lists! I have lists for everything in my Keep Notes app from what I need at the grocery store to meal plans, to-do lists, outdoor chores, etc. I too have a list for an annual trip to The Keys where I scrapbook with a friend. The list is about food because she has a timeshare and I like to cook. We have some things we pick up down there and others we bring with us. She wrote it out the first year and when I asked the second year, she sent it to me via text so now I have it on my phone too. Thanks for this episode as this is a great time of year for a brain dump to help prioritize what's important to me.

I thrive off of lists 💜 I have a big workbook of saved packing lists that have evolved over the years. When we're going to travel it helps me to go to a similar type of travel (or repeat) and either print as is, add in specifics for that trip. I update it when I get back if there were things hand written in. Loved this! Helpful.. I'd forgotten how amazing a brain dump feels 💜

I have several lists on the computer for packing, too! I have an Excel file with several tabs, one for the regular pack list, one for hiking, camping, the beach, fishing, and hunting. I print the pack list out to check off what I've packed, and then take it with me to look at before I leave to make sure I don't forget anything! (Like the charger plugged in behind the bed!) Also, if I learn that I need to pack something else next time, I write it on the list, and when I get back home, I add it to the spreadsheet. Traveling is stressful enough (it's like a mini-move), my brain can't handle remembering everything.

The braindump used to make my perfectionism worse, because I would see every single thing that I could possibly think of that I "had" to do - it was extremely overwhelming. Now that I got hooked on the FlyLady system and have a control journal, I have changed it to only writing down only the one thing the moment I think of it. Usually I put it on a sticky note and put it where I will need it (unless I already have a list going in that section), like a memo on opening hours of the recycling station on the Thursday shopping list, or how far I got decluttering the closet in zone 4. It works because the information is compartmentalized and with the control journal I don't lose my sticky notes.

I am really bad at getting things on paper or digitally unless it's making a list to go on holiday. I always do that. My routines I know off by half but I really need to put appointments and renewal of meds prescriptions on a calendar. I think this would be so helpful in our situation with multiple doctors and meds involved. I made an emergency go bag list the other day as having a haemaplegic husband who needs so much medication and medical equipment is not the same as most people's lists. Thanks for your videos which are so practical and served as a reminder to me to stop procrastinating and just get it done. This was so helpful

I love Google calendar for a calendar.... I share custody of my kids, and I shared the calendar with the kids, so if they are at school trying to schedule something with friends or something, it is super easy to just look at the calendar and see if they can say yes, just let me ask if it's okay. And add it to the calendar at the same time as messaging me. No waiting to get home to figure out what house they are at or try to go through the wrong parents to get permission.

I started my version of the cleaning system (adjusted for my physical disability limitations) in December so I've got the hang of it and tuned it some. This week I was able to keep up with my routine, weekly tasks and my zone while I had all 3 of my grandlittles (4,3&1) along with my youngest youngin's (9&7) at home with me. I'm sold! I'm only in the bed because it's snuggly warm not because I've hurt myself from over doing it! I even got to do things I wanted to do, not just the things that needed to be done. I'm pretty pleased. Thanks for being a great source of inspiration and info.

I heard Trello was a good app. I did my brain dump on Friday. Then I did a breakdown of some things on the list because the Project was too large by itself. I added some due dates over the weekend. On Monday, I looked at the lists and moved just the things with due dates for this week into the In Progress list, 8 items. After completing Monday's list I pulled a few items from my Spring Cleaning lists which took about 15 minutes each. It is Wednesday and I have completed 10 items! There are 6 items I had to change the due date because they are outside and the wind began to blow earlier than expected. I have added a few more things to the master list some of them with dates. I do not feel as stressed as in the past even though the lists (especially Spring Cleaning) are quite long. I am working on a Christmas decorating list.

LOVE THIS!!! We have a huge family wall calendar ❤️ but my saving grace is my FLIGHT PLAN it is a medium sized spiral notebook (usually from Dollar Tree) I write the date at the top. Then at the top is Mt to do that day list appointments etc and the rest of the page is for dumping or thinking. Sometimes I will put a week of dates in so that I can add things to Saturday like wash the dog. You get the picture... each day has a focus and area to think and dump. I like Stephs idea of putting it on the kitchen counter or someplace you will see it! Crossing off things gives you a sense of accomplishment!!!

I divide to-dos into different categories based on what kind of thing they are: computer tasks, phone calls, errands, and at-home. Then I can look at the phone call list when I'm waiting in the car for school pickup, for instance, and don't have to fuss about tasks that can't possibly get done at that moment anyway. I also limit the Real Really Gotta-Do Today To-Do List to 3 things. Often that is all that is realistic, on top of all the daily cooking and cleaning and school runs. Then I am actually inspired to finish it all and end the day feeling good instead of demoralized. If stuff from the other running lists happen too, so much the better, but 3 big things is all I can handle.

Here's one I would add -- the shopping list. But better named the "stuff I am out of" list. This is the one on the fridge. Any grocery items that are gone, (or often-used and almost gone, like t.p. and milk) go on there. Also gas and prescriptions. Then on errand day, if the list is full I take it with me, and if there's lots of space left, I just take a picture of the short list to my phone.

I use your printable and have been for more than a year now. I love it so much! An additional couple of lists I would recommend keeping (like the camping one that I also have and is awesome) is Christmas Card, Christmas Present List. Each year I go to these lists see if there are any adjustments I need to make to the lists, new friends people I have fell out of contact with etc. On the gift list my family and I talk about what gifts we would like to get them and add that next to there name. That way when we go shopping we don't have to remember what it was we wanted to get each person and can also budget a bit better. Then the next year we can see what we bought the person the previous year so we don't repeat similar gifts if we don't want to.

I use Alexa for reminders, grocery list, Walmart list etc. I just add to each list n it goes straight on my phone- get to the store n my list is with me n I check things off as I go. No paper clutter n no forgetting things…

Thank you for this. Great tips. I have an app called Home Routines & it's brill. I've set it to when I have a shower, take tablets, tidy up before work etc. Just curious, why do most calendars in the US & Canada start on a Sunday rather than a Monday? I only buy calendars that start on a Monday, otherwise I get really confused.
