The Grammys were taking (very late) baby steps - this is the first year R.E.M. got nominated and they were the precursors to Alternative Rock. They had to honour them before honouring Nirvana.

The Grammys are some haters because how was “Nevermind” not nominated for anything? They weren’t tuned into what the youth was listening to which makes them out of touch
