Just a comment on air-cleaners, they were not "standard" in 1939. The air-cleaner was part of the optional "De Luxe Solo" accessory group. If not chosen the bike was supplied with an intake "air-horn" (no filter mesh). Maybe the air-filter was the rule rather than the exeption in the U.S. but in Europe it was the other way round. Here in Norway all Harleys was delivered with air-horns up to and including 1939. (No 1940 models was imported due to the outbreak of WW2). Just for the record. Thanks for making these videos, I really enjoy them.

Great job on this one. Bags and seat look awesome, only thing you’re lacking is a windshield. Not sure what year they started the beaded top windshields with the leather lower on the springers but that’s the only other part I’d be looking for. That J slot air cleaner is so correct looking for this particular bike as well. Just recently learned how much more work it is to go thru a set of the knuckle heads on this one of mine. Really glad I bought oversized guides to turn in the lathe with the tool post grinder to get my correct press fit. Those were another great buy from your eBay store. Keep up the great work, look forward to seeing you taking this one for a rip. 👍

Magnificent! thanks so much for bringing us into your shop for such a special rustoration! LOVE the bags, so much history right there...how many trips, miles and personal stories have been carried around in those...rhinestones and conchos are legit authentic and real personalisation of the owner(s). Seat is superb too...I'd think about adding a couple of battered conchos and rhinestones to the seat fringe, to bring a deeper relation with the bags. superb work, and choices in keeping the time capsule intact! Greetings from SW Oz...

I usually like bikes that are restored and painted up nice and pretty, but I've got to say that this is probably the prettiest rusty bike I've ever seen. I'm still not sold on the bags though. I like them better now that I see them with the seat, but maybe still a little busy for me. Matter of personal taste I guess.

would not remove the jewelry saddle bags ... maybe ? from the video view - i would put a little saddle soap on the seat to bring up the shine to match the bags and switch the top center gaucho from the bags to the seat ( so the shinny ones on the seat) match and tie together - by far my favorite bike build , so far

Yet another enthralling episode. I'd love to have ride on one these old Harley's. Unfortunately like over here in the 🇬🇧 old bikes have become the preserve of the wealthy collectors who have the money but no intention of ever riding them . Such a shame. I passed my UK bike test in 1981 an bought an old 1961 sporting 650 BSA for £300. Happy days.

"Service air cleaner every 2000 miles or oftener." I didn't realize "oftener" was a word until today. Kinda crazy that motorcycle manufacturers didn't do air cleaners earlier. It seems like common sense...if the carb is sucking in air, which goes straight into the cylinders, having some kind of filter element would be helpful. A lot of people still don't run an air cleaner, you see the open velocity stacks a lot, which unless you're on a track doesn't seem like a great idea to me. (At least get one with a fine mesh screen.)

Maybe talk about "Conch's" in general. Harley still has Conch's...In fact I have a few on my 2007 Ultra. But I really don't know the true history. I like the saddle and bags...both have Conchs. Is it "proper" to have some old and corroded and others looking at least newer and a bit cleaner and polished? I dunno. But I definitely like the fired out rust and the complete original bike...it's awesome!!!
