I sold many of these when working in retail electronics. Panasonic even did a presentation for the sales people. To be honest, with Way of the Warrior and its White Zombie soundtrack, it sold itself. Great gaming system.

I still have my FZ-10 I bought new for $199. Also have close to 200 games. Most of these games I paid $5-$10 each for when nobody wanted them. I bought them from EB Games and Kaybee Toys back in the 90's. They are worth quite a bit now.

our family had one of these! people dump on it in the same way you might dog on the Phillips CDi, but 3DO did actually have a handful of good games! loved GEX, loved Road Rash (although I always found it weird the licensed music was relegated to the menus) it was also the launch of EA's The Need For Speed franchise! it also had a really great port of Super SF2 Turbo, although unless you owned two soldier pads, it was kinda rough to play on the stock pads.

My mom worked for panasonic back then and she said they gave them to employees to test out with all the games. Unfortunately her house blew up in 2001 and so did the 3DO.

@@newkillergenius Yes she was at work and actually on her way back to have lunch and saw all of the firetrucks. No one was inside. She says that they were lucky it was their house cause that day was a snow day from school and all the other houses around had kids home.

One of those expansion ports(not sure which one) supported the MPEG decoder, which gave the unit VCD player functionality. Might be hard to find these days. As for my experience with it, a friend had it and even he admitted it cost too much for what he got. When the Playstation hit shelves in '95, it was a much better machine and cost about £300 less. Even the newer, cost reduced later models were still more expensive than Sony's more impressive offering. Unfortunate timing, really, if they'd had a cost reduced version before the Playstation come out, they might have sold a few before the PS hit the shops.

Unforuntately the business model of the 3DO's creators didn't work. They designed it but couldn't afford the massive amount of money needed to produce and market the machines, which is why they licenced 3rd parties like Panasonic to do that. The 3DO company then took a small royalty for each console and game sold, but this meant that the manufacturer wasn't getting any royalties for sold games, meaning that they had to sell the console at a high enough price to turn a profit (unlike Sega, Nintendo or Sony, who sold consoles at a loss and recouped those losses by taking a big cut of the revenue from the expensively priced games).

I had a friend with a a new PS1 trade me for my 3DO and all the games we had for one month. He gave me my 3DO back and said, "It kind of sucks." :(

Again Rich Friends had one. I wasnt allowed to plahy. They had Road Rash, thats all I remember seeing them play I remember seeing the cool option screens for Wolf3d, but probably a video I saw 20 years ago

dont care about the bad rap3do got..its a good console with some good games...there are some really good japan only games for it if you dig in! the light gun is very cool! never saw that !arron i dont know how you played that space pirates with the 3 shots only! you must be very psitent!

It's too bad YT hates your channel. You haven't made a bad video yet. I didn't touch the 3D0 when it released. Too expensive and the 16 bits were still good enough. PlayStation was right around the corner as well.

Whenever I see a notification for a new video that endless loop broken record background track embeds itself into my brain before I even click on it. Makes it hard to watch. Maybe take it out? 🤷‍♂️ don’t mean to be a karen or complain and I know having some background atmosphere usually makes it more entertaining and it’s fine the first couple times but then it gets kindof monotonous. I have the same issue with RR retro recipes channel. The same looping music drives me batty. Maybe it’s just me 🤔. I want to watch the vids tho. ** while I’m on my armchair critic soapbox I also suggest adding a little more pause between sentences so the dialog is not like one big long run-on sentence. Tighten those two things up and they’ll be perfecto 👍 🤩 PS: I’m one to talk, my production quality is ass 😂
