I'm a musician and love shows. I've used earplugs for years but developed tinnitus likely from teeth grinding -- and it's made me more sensitive to sound. It also made me scared of the tinnitus getting worse. I've been wondering about different types of earplugs and which is best, so I got super excited to see this video!

I have few questions, 1.How did you know your T is coming from teeth grinding?. 2. Do you suffer from TMJ?. 3. Did you wear night guard and if it helpful, for how long you were earing them. Thanks.

The Earplugs and the headphones make my tinnitus even louder. I’m wearing them when I am driving a car and it’s the hell! I I don’t hear the running engine’s noise but I hear a tinnitus very loudly. It’s driving me nuts.

I use foam ear plugs and shoot muffs when I mow my lawn and vacuum my house. I also have purchased shooter muffs for my grandsons that they use when they are at a loud parade.

I've tried different ones and the best - by far - are called isolate. I have been using these for many years (since they launched) as my hobbie is social dance. It means that I am subjected to loud volumes for hours on end, but with the isolate I never get ringing from the music (I do if I am not wearing them). They are mad of metal with a foam tip and were designed to lower the volume while letting as many frequencies go through as possible. They are produced by a UK company called flare audio.

I had custom earplugs made from silicone for riding my motorcycle, I also use them for landscaping and I have to say that they are highly effective, I don't know how I did without them for all this time. When doing landscaping I also wear earmuff type ones over the silicone ones for extra protection. They had a promotion on for $125, they are for sure worth the money

I bought earplugs to wear at work (retail environment), but they amplified my voice within my ear so much when I talked, that I had to stop wearing them. I'd only use them now in a environment where I dont have to speak. The cans/ear cover protectors are better, as they allow for some space around the ear where outgoing noise can escape - but I cant wear them at the counter. lol

Thank you for this video very informative. I've just had. Custom ear plugs made haven't picked them up yet. Question about noise canceling headphones I bought a very good pair Sony wh1000 xm4 . I only used them twice at very low volume and less than a h alf hour when I took them off both times my tinnitus was worse not likely to use them again. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience with noise canceling headphones. Thanks again for this video and all the others so informative

I had Sensear hearing protection along with ear plugs and I still got tinnitus. It’s important to wear hearing protection and Dr. Ben’s info is spot on however, in my case working around loud jet engines, nothing prevented me from having hearing loss. It was a unique situation I guess.

I attended a ballet two weeks ago - no orchestra - it was a sound system - 2 speakers on stage. I sat at back of theatre maybe 20 rows back. No ear plugs in. Within 2 minutes of the start my light hissing tinnitus morphed into a piercing zinging sound so I got my yellow foam earplugs in for the rest of the show. That spike lasted 1 week and it has gone back to baseline. I find the foam earplugs work very well. Rubber type ear plugs I find are useless. The magic of foam is it expands in the ear canal.

Do you get spikes after the concert? And stay away from the speakers? Next year I have my favourite band concert, they're pretty heavy and I promised to myself to be front row but I'm scared I'll get a bad spike:'(

Thank you Dr. Ben, your work is very much appreciated. I just have one question, I use both foam and custom made molded earplugs mainly for lound music/attending concerts. However, it seems that the base is what spikes my tinnitus after attending. Is there any recommendation for loud base? Thanks you!

My ears ring after mowing the lawn, even though I wear custom molded earplugs and the highest rated noise reduction ear muffs. Why does this happen and what can I do as I need to run loud machinery for work.
@treblehealth
@treblehealth 4 ай бұрын
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Is the ringing constant or temporary after mowing the lawn? It's essential to distinguish between the two. I would recommend visiting your audiologist for a comprehensive audiologic examination. They can assess your hearing health, determine the cause of the ringing, and provide personalized recommendations for managing it, especially since you need to work with loud machinery.

I took a medicine called wellbutrin for just 7 days and it's been a month now since I took the last pill, and this drug caused me tinnitus, I can't sleep sometimes from the loud noise inside my head and I just don't understand why the doctor didn't tell me anything about this side effect of this horrible drug.
@socialmaven3346
@socialmaven3346 2 жыл бұрын
Wellbutrin is what caused my tinnitus. It has gotten worse 3 times. Until I got tinnitus in 2019, NO DOCTOR EVER warned me of tinnitus as a side effect and I never read it on any brochures that came with medications. The sad fact is (as I've learned from personal experience) idoctors don't know or care about tinnitus -- that would even include audiologists I consulted with when I first got it in 2019. I flew to several areas of the U.S. - same story. "No cure - you'll get used to it." Or "That couldn't have caused your tinnitus to get so high pitched." But I know my body and what happened when I took the Wellbutrin, the Prozac and then a med for an eye infection that had some Neomycin in it - that's when it got so high pitched. It has ruined my life. I was 100% healthy before I got tinnitus, and my overall health has deteriorated. I feel for you or anyone who has tinnitus. I haven't had restorative sleep since Jan. 2019. All the best to you.

@@socialmaven3346 Hey bro, thanks for the comment. I feel you too and I hope we'll be out of this horrible condition soon. What helps me now is to know that I'm not alone, I saw that so many people suffer from tinnitus, millions of people around the world have it. It helps me in some way to think about that I'm not alone, at all. Second thing I saw a video of one girl she explained that the more you focus on it, the more it'll become stronger and hard to get rid off. She said there is absolutely hope to get rid of this. She said don't let this thing manage you in life, DO NOT give it any attention, ignore it, distract yourself from it. The more you'll do that the brain will learn to ignore that sound, and slowly the brain will get rid of it. And there are more plenty of things that we can try to treat this condition. I'm only at the beginning of looking for solution but I really hope I will find it soon, and you too, and all the people who suffer so much from this horrible condition.

You can buy flexible soft silicone ear plugs that filters up to 22 decibels and protects against swimmers ear. With most chain retailers there's a brand name- Mack's Pillow Soft Silicone Putty Earplugs $3.80-$5 for 6 pairs and generic 6 pairs $3.00-$3.50. They work well at loud environments- around heavy machinery, construction, loud concerts, riding a motorcycle, auto racing.
