My four- Victorinox Swisstool Spirit X Leatherman Wave Leatherman Wingman (Modified)* Leatherman Style *I modified the Wingman, adding the straight blade (replacing the partially serrated blade) and the serrated knife (replacing the package opener) from the Sidekick. I use the scissors more often than a saw.

Thanks for informing us about this useful range of tools. My son has long-carried a full-size multi-tool. I learned a lot more when Zach Fowler wisely included a self-modified multi-tool in his challenge to win 'Alone 3.' As a backpacker prior to the multi-tool era, I understood the value of pliers that could also 'wrench' nuts as needed and serve as pot-lifters. For light camping, these tools can save a lot of weight and volume and bring a lot of functionality along.

I've had the rebar for the last three years. I work in a Lumber yard and I've used each tool except the awl. At least npt for its intended purpose. I've used it to pull out staples saw wood down to size and even the screw drivers. hasn't let me down yet. best multi tool I have. I might pick up the squirter I need a new replacement knife for my keys. that's about the right size as well. thanks for the review.

Nice segment... I've always have a love vs. dissatisfaction outlook on multi-tools. I especially liked you sharing how these models differed in deploying the various tool's components. The 'why' behind some of your preferences === made good sense.
@JustSimplyBrandon8 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the four multi-tools I recommend is one of each categories: keychain-size, pocket-size, full-size, and heavy-duty. The different size categories allow for maximum flexibility and capabilities in use for a wide spectrum of situations, depending on the tool you use. I prefer a multi-tool that embodies a pocket tool chest with the most capabilities, so my four will be the Leatherman Squirt PS4, Juice Xe6, Charge TTi, and Surge.

Most cruise lines (carnival Corp, etc) allow knives up to 4 inches to be brought onboard. And if youre a diver and have a dive knife that's larger you can check it with the purser and they will let you have it when you leave the ship for your diving excursion, just an FYI. I have the Rebar and absolutely love it. I really enjoy watching your videos BTW, keep up the good work!

If you wear glasses and you need a small flathead, you like outdoors camping and bushcraft, you want an awl and a saw and a pair of good scissors and some tweezers thrown in, and you want it all to be lightweight and versatile then I know the perfect combo..... LEATHERMAN REBAR + LEATHERMAN MICRA These 2 multi tools when used together are awesome, they are both good for different tasks and the weight is still kept at a minimal. (SAW - BLADE - SERRATED BLADE - MINI BLADE - FILE - FLATHEADS micro, small, medium, large - 3D PHILLIPS DRIVER - AWL/REAMER - SCISSORS - TWEEZERS - BOTTLE OPENER - CAN OPENER - LANYARD RINGS - PLIERS WITH REPLACEABLE TEETH - RULERS - NAIL FILE AND CLEANER)

For past 5-6 years i've carried between the leatherman squirt p4 and the rev. Usually the rev. Looks like the rev is very similar to the sidekick. 5.9oz vs the 7 oz sidekick, but the sidekick has that extra outer saw and the rev has the inner package opener vs the short serrated blade on the sidekick. That's the only thing i wish the rev had is some serrated blade for rope cutting. But I do love the rev's outer non serrated blade and its low weight. I also have a supertool and a surge that I keep in vehicles.
@simonh63713 жыл бұрын
Wow snap on 3 of those, I own the Squirt PS4 and Gerber MP600 bladeless and I've just ordered the Rebar. I'm in the UK so can't carry a Rebar or most LMs for that matter as EDC, so PS4 lives in my coin pocket, and the MP600 is my urban EDC bag multitool. Having said that, I don't see any advantage of the Sidekick over the Rebar, it isn't smaller and lighter but has a more limited toolset, it only scores over the Rebar in that the blade and saw are accessible from the outside, and it has a pocketclip. I found a Rebar for just £50 (it's a ''second'' with an overwritten engraving but that's no biggy) which is really good for the UK, and even the Sidekick / Wingman are hard to find for that price nowadays. Like you I'm going to use the Rebar for outdoor activities when I don't really have to worry about the ban on carrying a fixed/locking blade, as that's only ''without good reason'', if you're camping or bushcrafting you have good reason to carry a locking blade and/or fixed blade and anyway I also carry a fixed blade of some kind when I'm doing that. Also that will be my Bug-Out-Bag multitool as it's good for outdoors use. I've got a couple of other mid-sized multitools - SOG Microclip and True Utility Multimate - which are UK legal for EDC but I don't rate them too much as apart from the pliers, which are a bit more substantial than those on a Squirt, the remaining tools have a few shortcomings, some are pretty much useless, however I tend to carry these in conjunction with a Swiss Army knife which covers those gaps in utility. Having said that, if I could opt for a 4th multitool it would be either a Leatherman Juice S2 or CS4, or a Swisstool X or Spirit X. The Juice would be more suited to a legal pocket EDC, but they're really hard to come by nowadays, the best price I can find is from a supplier in France and they still come in at around $90/100 respectively. For that money I can get a Swisstool, but that wouldn't be a practical EDC from the point of view of size and legality. So I still haven't decided. Probably I will end up getting both, I was only planning to get one fixed blade, one folder and one multitool but somehow I couldn't leave it at that, whenever I see a bargain in a clearance sale or on Amazon I convince myself that I'm saving money by buying it lol.

top 4 you recommend... mp600 with removable carbide cutters... "you can rotate them if they warp or dull".... never used this one have you... admit it, you maybe cut a piece of copper wire and that's it... those are carbide, they don't "warp" they shatter. and they shatter when cutting anything relatively the same softness as a coat hanger. not that i don't like gerber, i've been carrying a multiplier for 10 years now, but when i sent in mine to get repaired, gerber sent me the newest model (military version since mine was one i got while in the navy) with the replaceable cutters, i felt the same way. hey look awesome carbide cutters! lets test them real quick...... some twisted .040 welding wire doubled up as tig wire........ boom, broken carbides, and then you let gerber know their product failed instantly and they throw out the "sorry that isn't covered in the tool warranty".. so they replace the tool after 10 years of use no problem, but cutters fail after 1 cut and its not their problem? fun.

I have a LM Wingman, LM Wave (added Clip) and a Victorinox Spirit. The Swiss Made Spirit has BY FAR the best quality and attention to detail. At the Spirit I like that all tools are available from the outside - though two handed. On the LM I like the clips and one handed accessibility of some of the tools. Though I don't like that you have to oben the tool to get some of the other tools. All of them are valuable. If you don't have the Vic Spirit I recommend trying it out.

edc'd an mp 600 bladeless for a couple of years and Its such a great tool, no rust, smooth action and no blades which is a must in the UK with our daft knife laws. Leatherman is missing a big chunk of the market unless you are willing to edc the rebar edc or juice/squirt models
@simonh63713 жыл бұрын
It's just no locking blades, or blades over 3 inches. I agree it's daft, that means I can't even carry a keyring Opinel, and I wouldn't feel happy with a non-locking one, those blades are like razors. The only Leathermans which we can legally EDC are the Squirt, Style PS & CS, Juice range - and you're looking at nearly 100 quid for a CS4 if you can still find one - and Rebar bladeless. I EDC a Squirt, or a Gerber MP600 if I'm carrying a bag, but always pair them up with a Swiss Army knife.

that's the problem with squirts -- why apply that shiny coating if the multitool is meant to carried on a keychain, next to sharp and hard keys? mine is almost "plain silver" now, with only a few tiny red spots. my rebar, wave and victorinox spirit look as good as new despite the fact that i use them hard (especially the rebar which will soon become glossier than the spirit).

The phillips on the Rebar has to be the king of non-attachment phillips heads on mutitools. It's huge, and sticks out farther from the body of the tool than other phillips heads. My picks: Sidekick, Wave, Surge, Gerber Dime Travel (for the file), Gerber MP600 bladeless. The Surge is on my EDC bag. When I first saw this video my reaction was that 4 “must have” multitools was 3 too many. BUT, having a bladeless one for travel is not a bad idea. I like my Sidekick very much and it is my EDC tool for everything but coat & tie functions, thus the advantage of the Squirt (may have to consider getting one). It is probably just me, I prefer multitools which do not require them to be opened to access the most used tools, so for a larger multitool I prefer the Victorinox Spirit X. 4 “must haves” may indeed be the correct number.

I understand that things like this are purely personal preference, but this is the one area I really disagree with your choice. I have been carrying a supertool 200 for 14 years, with a wave ( gen 1) on the other hip for the last 10. ( original leatherman before that) I carry them in belt sheathes, and do not even notice the weight, but I do notice I can hardly make it through a day that I do not need one or both of them. I find quite often when I need the pliers, or screw driver, I also need a second one to hold the back of what I want to loosen/tighten. someday, if financing permits, I plan to upgrade to the supertool 300 and the current wave ( mine does not have the bit holder option, and is 10 years old and just starting to show some wear.) I had my supertool 100 ,until it was stolen last year, in my wheelchair kit, and the 200 I bought in 2002. wearing them on my belt has become so natural that when I am forced to leave them home to go to the VA facilities, I really feel weird not having them in place.

Best multi-tool is a personal choice. I wouldn't own anything Gerber makes, including a multi-tool, simply because regardless of the Gerber product, I can get something better. I carry two Leatherman multi-tools in the same pouch. One is the Leatherman upper Tool 300. It's a big tool, and handles big jobs as well as regular, full-sized tools do. I'm never without it. The other is the Leatherman Micro because I do use scissors almost everyday. I don't need a bladeless tool for flying. Chances of needing a tool while on a plane are slim, and I can buy a knife or multi-tool when I get off the plane. Anyway, the two Leatherman I carry are far and away the best multi-tools for ME. Each person has to evaluate their own needs based on their own daily lives. I need a big tool that does the big jobs I run into that would require a toolbox, if I didn't have the Super Tool 300. For me, a multi-tool that can't handle any job is useless. I need the Micro because using scissors is something I do nearly every day and often several times per day. Other people lead other lives, and have other needs, and need to choose a multi-tool that meets those needs.

Hey Gideonstactical:) I'm up in the air between the Sidekick and the supertool 300! I know that the supertool is very heavy but I don't care. I'm mainly going to EDC what ever tool I buy so just wanted to know what you thought? Thanks.

The Leatherman Rebar is better than the Wave+. The Rebar is cheaper, lighter, and more robust. The scissors on the Wave+ are basically useless for anything but for thread snipping. Moreover, having to buy and carry bits for the Wave+ only adds to the cost and to the weight. The Wave+ and bit kit costs the same as two Rebars! I'd rather have two Rebars than one Wave+.
