Padlocks are obsolete. Any lock can be cut at the shackle in seconds battery operated tools make this cheaper and faster than the best lock. Usually the chain or shed shackle is the weak point. Cut the hinges off the shed door and ignore the lock.. Bikes.. cut the chain
@Ichihiro36
@Ichihiro36 Жыл бұрын
@@vinerevive9780 hasp... the word for the holes that lock shackles go threw is hasp. Usually it's two holes spoken as if it were one thing, ie not pluralized. So I wouldn't start that last sentence by saying 'Usually they're two holes...' but rather 'it's two holes'. That's a bad example that I contrived when writing the sentence I later used as an example... it's a bad example cuz it's not an example at all as it's the word hasp that's treated as singular... unlike socks which are usually pluralized. To say two hasps makes me think 4 holes. Anyways, the word you were looking for was hasp.

Unfortunately a shackle guard doesn’t work. If you can fit the thickness of a cutting wheel between the lock then everything is gone. Thats what happened with my lock at a storage unit. Thickness doesn’t matter the wheel slips in between the lock and what the lock secured to it’s over regardless of your key type. That lock has to be in a Thick lock box.

I'm amazed at how many commenters expect non-destructive methods to be common among thieves. I would expect the destructive attacks to be much more common with smashing and cutting being most common. Correct me if you have stats. There also seems to be a lack of understanding that security is a sliding scale i.e. better protection costs more and you take into account the value of what you are protecting. I'm not going to spend $200 on a lock to protect $100 worth of goods. Further, a lock is just one part of a system and criminals will attack the weakest part of a system. A high-end lock won't do much good if criminals can break down a door, break a window, etc. The system is only as secure as the weakest link. You should buy a lock that doesn't turn out to be the the system's weakest link. Spending more money might make you feel safer, but it is false security. Every other part of the system needs to at least as secure as that fancy lock to make the lock worth it. I also assume these commenters only use locks that have yet to be picked or bypassed. Surely once someone picks or bypasses their high-security locks they replace them all with a more secure option. /s

@@LocksmithRecommended But also no entirely true. In the broad scale yes security is a sliding scale but when you are a locksmith and know about things like shimming open a padlock you should never be recommending a crappy lock like the Master "Commercial" lock. For the same price you can get a American Lock padlock with a ball locking system that can't be shimmed open by a 5 year old. Using knowledge and actually examining the lock critically there is good quality locks at most price points that are worth recommending they just don't give as big of a promotional kickback when you sell them.

@@jacobbotden5641 honestly, you hear and see a lot of negative things about master lock. Not all of them have horrible cores and they mostly are very tough locks to get into in a destructive manner. @@LocksmithRecommended yeah but it's a difference of how easily. I've raked a masterlock in seconds while a more secure core could take much longer, and require a higher skill set than a masterlock. Also a lock requiring special tools like a disc detainer lock could deter a lot more beginner lock pickers. The only thing that masterlocks protect against are opportunist thieves, and people too lazy to buy a lock picking set. In my opinion, you could get a lot more locks in the same price range with much better cores, and about the same physical protection. I don't think ANYONE should use or recommend masterlocks, and I'm quite disappointed that a "locksmith" would recommend such a weak lock.

@@LocksmithRecommended If you're spending $7 on a lock, what you're protecting is probably not worth a lock at all. If you spend a bit more money on a abus, or if you're looking at pick resistance a yuema 750. There are plenty of cheap disc locks, and they could increase security by a ton. Heck, you could even just get something with security pins and it would make it much more secure. If you're buying a masterlock then you're just protecting against opportunist thieves that give up when they see a lock. I mean if you're gonna recommend a masterlock, make it in a video called "cheapest locks to keep the neighborhood kids out of your shed"

Your recommendations for high security locks are good. In the UK, multilock pin-in-pin and the abus rock you show are good. However, PLEASE stop recommending Master lock padlocks, and DEFFINATELY DONT reccomend Masterlock combination locks (they can be opened in two seconds with a cut down wiper blade insert -some of them can be decoded with a sliver cut from a drink can). I'm getting fed up with the slew and mass-marketing Masterlock are doing, selling their old junk that the USA treat as TRASH to the unsuspecting UK public. It's truelly abhorrent that you're actually reccomending them. Clearly you're not a trustworthy locksmith

Keep in mind, we are comparing locks at a specific price point against other locks at the same price point. An inexpensive lock is never meant to protect extreme valuables. For that, you want the locks we talked about at the end of the video. However at an inexpensive price point, the Master Lock is one of the best you can get when compared to others at the same price point due to the strength of materials, but it can be bypassed, just as all inexpensive locks can.

Get another big dog so that they have a friend to play with. Buy a cheap lock. See how that works. Also.....place the entire structure near your home, and keep a shotgun handy. A sign near the lock: "Please do not bother snakes inside".

There are a couple of idiots on KZbin who are teaching thieves how to pick any lock, it does not matter how heavy it is. I would not have any issues if they pick the lock, but they teach thieves how to do it, plus they are selling now the tools to open any lock, which makes it necessary to buy the old numbered safe to protect valuables, especially expensive guns.

@LocksmithRecommended
@LocksmithRecommended 4 жыл бұрын
You are correct. If you want a pick resistant lock, you need to get a high security padlock. But a lot of people can't afford a $200 padlock. When you have $10 and you want a good $10 lock, it's hard to do better than Master Lock at that price. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can get into 95% of the house locks out there, with no skill whatsoever, but we still recommend you lock your doors. Same reason.

Cost vs security is always a trade-off. The two Master Locks we discussed are inexpensive locks. No $10 lock is going to protect you from bypass. They're inexpensive for a reason. Master Lock is the one that we like at that price point for the strength of materials used. When compared to other locks at the same price point, it wins IMHO. Check out our video: Can all locks be bypassed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2OVaZWKotd_ec0 Thanks for the comment! ✌

I like your comment and yes many do take there "knowledge" from people who is particular skilled. Unfortunately do non of these locks withstand other faster and silent attacks, except maybe the Abus Rock. I will in no way go into details about how to defeat all these locks but it can be done silent in about 15 seconds. And the Abus chain is not a chain I would recommend. You can find lots of videos where it has been cut by manual bolt cutters, so they have no chance against a hydraulic one you can hide under your jacket.

Well I got recommended a video by LPL a couple of months ago and because it looked interesting and I was curious if it’s really that easy I ordered a crappy chinese pick set and later a Master Lock No. 3. It literally takes longer to get the lock out of the packaging than to pick it... It’s really true that all those Master Locks with 4 pins are ridiculous easy to pick. You basically don’t need any skills and can open them usually in well under 10 seconds.

Love the big abus and chain . I just bought a 10k lawnmower for my business. My concern is someone stealing the trailer off the truck with the mower in it. What is your best way to secure trailer to truck? Remember that someone can easily unscrew the ball and attach it to their truck and drive away in minutes

It's not something we deal with often so I don't have a recommendation for you. But Amazon does have a number of hitch locks available and we secure our trailer by locking the wheel (similar to a car boot). amzn.to/2FaqPwX
@penfold7800
@penfold7800 4 жыл бұрын
Weld the nuts that hold the ball to the vehicle, drill a bigger hole through the hitch lever and use a bigger padlock. ...and make sure the vehicle is secure too! A wheelclamp is a good idea, but don't go for what Amazon reccomends. Make your own choice (city council parking enforcers use clamps secured by thick chain and padlock -theres a reason for that. Take their advice)

Get good insurance hitch locks are a joke friend had his boat stolen we saw how the did it they just used the safety chains twisted them tight guy lifted hooked the chains in tight enough that it towed it right away like nothing cut the hitch lock off later. Boat was re-registered in another state and sold off only was found when a deputy found a different vin on the boat when he stopped someone for DUI on the lake. There is no boat titles the trailer was registered with a new VIN number. Best to keep boat locked behind a good gate he was keeping in the driveway bad idea. Lucky he had boat insurance they covered most of the cost the boat was only a year old. Only other way would be install concrete eye bolt then chain the trailer with a cut resistant chain and high security padlock. Install security cameras that records movement around the boat sends you a IM message slow them down enough you can get the police coming.

You know sir, I've been looking the past two days for locks and I just don't know what to get. I'll be flying with my rifle for the first time and I'm really worried because I'd be gutted if someone stole my rifle. I have a Plano 36" case that has two built-in locks and two o-rings for another two locks of your choice. In my research, 99% of people say not to use TSA certified locks because it's a felony for them to open your gun case without you present. The TSA employees don't know this and often cut the locks which is illegal and it's a federal offense if someone steals the firearm. I don't think I'll have this problem but I just don't know what to get.

A plastic rifle case and you’re worried about the lock? Hide a tile gps tracker in the stock if you’re that worried but the best lock in the world isn’t going to protect something in a plastic case that can be picked up and carried by anyone.

Another way to achieve high security is buying a decent medium size steel padlock then start welding pieces of steel around it to make it bigger and stronger. You better hand forge your giant hasps and staples too to match the locks security level

[TLDR: Some of the things this guy said seemed a little misleading to me. I give some push-back, and sprinkle in some advice.] Need Mul-T-Lock keys made without the lock owner's knowledge? I can do that for you... easily. I also won't. Need one picked? Okay well, you got me there. I've been trying for about 3 years, can't get it. I have a box of challenge locks, inside that box is a box of problem locks (one's I haven't been able to pick.) My Mul-T-Lock is in that box of lock that are a problem for me. I really can duplicate Mul-T-Lock keys quite easily... at home as a non locksmith. Nope, not telling how. However if your so criminally minded Milwaukee and DeWalt make awesome battery powered handheld die grinders... you'd be amazed at how normal construction sounds are to people. What? I didn't teach anyone how to be a criminal there. If you think I did, I really hope you of the honest type, or else your gonna get caught... a lot, because you don't understand how that doesn't help anyone steal. I am honest people... yet your master lock might unlock if I sneez too close to it. It definitely wouldn't slow me down long enough to consider the morality of it... I've pre-considdered it so... all you master lock owners are safe... from me specifically... but I don't know if Master Lock even keeps an honest man honest though, really... I reserve my doubts, let's just put it that way. Personally I use the Metro (52 5) by Medeco for my $130 [USD] bicycle. The locks only $10 less than the bike... but it's special and sentimental to me, and it's a discontinued bike so it's irreplaceable. I'm adding that value in when I evaluate how much of a lock I feel I need. Also I was a bike messenger when I got the lock so not only was the bike my livelihood, but I put it at risk constantly (by parking it in public, in a major metropolitan city) so those considerations also went into it as well. That's the most valuable thing (to me) that I lock up. My storage unit uses some BS Schlage or Master Lock or whatever seventeen dollar lock they sold me at the storage place. There's maybe 10 thou' in; what I value as, next to garbage (play on next to nothing) behind that door. Money is not how I value things. You might want to consider the non-monetary value of things when evaluating what level of security you'd like to pay for too... to me, the non-monetary value far outweighs the monetary value of things. _(Those last three paragraphs may point out to you, that you don't necessarily want my advice on what lock to choose either.)_ Some locksmith apprentices have already forgotten more than some master locksmiths will ever know. Why? Because some humans are just dumb as a box of rocks, and have to choose some profession... while some people are intellectually gifted and passionate... and also have to choose some profession. Let's be clear, I'm not claiming to be either... I'm just saying just because you're sitting there BS-ing with some master locksmith of 25 years doesn't mean that his advice is worth two $h¡tz... not necessarily say'n this guy in the vid either, I know nothing about him... I'm just say'n... like in general. *If you really want to get the absolute most fitting lock for you, and your needs and situation... you're better off learning about locks than listening to anyone else's advice.* The more you learn, the more you'll realize there is to learn... the subject of locks gets really really deep. It's not simple by any means. The simplified version of it accepted by society is a ruse... it cannot be simplified like that without great sacrifice. Like sacrificing the very purpose of having a lock for example. When the point is self-defeating, there really isn't one anymore. Lock sport is a thing... it's also a really approachable community, that loves sharing knowledge about locks. Talk to people who pick locks for fun, and you will learn a lot quickly.
