That's a bad example that I contrived when writing the sentence I later used as an example... it's a bad example cuz it's not an example at all as it's the word hasp that's treated as singular... unlike socks which are usually pluralized. Get good insurance hitch locks are a joke friend had his boat stolen we saw how the did it they just used the safety chains twisted them tight guy lifted hooked the chains in tight enough that it towed it right away like nothing cut the hitch lock off later. Boat was re-registered in another state and sold off only was found when a deputy found a different vin on the boat when he stopped someone for DUI on the lake. There is no boat titles the trailer was registered with a new VIN number. Best to keep boat locked behind a good gate he was keeping in the driveway bad idea. Lucky he had boat insurance they covered most of the cost the boat was only a year old. Only other way would be install concrete eye bolt then chain the trailer with a cut resistant chain and high security padlock. Install security cameras that records movement around the boat sends you a IM message slow them down enough you can get the police coming.

I am surprised that you, as a locksmith hasn't heard of this technique. You are posting a video which compares locks, and you recommend some - but you fail to perform the single most common way to defeat a lock, used by thieves world wide. You seem to the perfect example of someone who works in a field but doesn't give a shit at all about it..."do the bare minimum, then go home" must be your motto. I can't believe that someone has to tell you this - customers buy locks so that thieves can't steal their belongings - not so that they don't need to buy a new lock after they lose everything. Who really gives a crap if the lock can be reused if all their belongings are stolen? Maybe you should check out all the other youtube videos...by actual locksmiths. This way you may learn how locksmiths evaluate various locks. For God's sake 1) you don't even evaluate how pickable each lock is that you recommend. 2) you don't show how the locks (that you recommend) stand up to attacks "This lock is heavy. Good! I'm amazed at how many commenters expect non-destructive methods to be common among thieves. I would expect the destructive attacks to be much more common with smashing and cutting being most common. Correct me if you have stats. There also seems to be a lack of understanding that security is a sliding scale i.e. better protection costs more and you take into account the value of what you are protecting. I'm not going to spend $200 on a lock to protect $100 worth of goods. Further, a lock is just one part of a system and criminals will attack the weakest part of a system. A high-end lock won't do much good if criminals can break down a door, break a window, etc. The system is only as secure as the weakest link. You should buy a lock that doesn't turn out to be the the system's weakest link. Spending more money might make you feel safer, but it is false security. Every other part of the system needs to at least as secure as that fancy lock to make the lock worth it. I also assume these commenters only use locks that have yet to be picked or bypassed. Surely once someone picks or bypasses their high-security locks they replace them all with a more secure option. /s

I'll be flying with my rifle for the first time and I'm really worried because I'd be gutted if someone stole my rifle. I have a Plano 36" case that has two built-in locks and two o-rings for another two locks of your choice. In my research, 99% of people say not to use TSA certified locks because it's a felony for them to open your gun case without you present. The TSA employees don't know this and often cut the locks which is illegal and it's a federal offense if someone steals the firearm. I don't think I'll have this problem but I just don't know what to get.

Things to look for in a good paddock: Me - 7+ pins with a mix of security spools, extra long pins to protect against raking/bumping, and short pins next to extra long pins to make picking harder. Add in a horrible keyway entrance and also include shimmy, drill and bypass protection. Them - high weight, thick shackle, shackle protector. I.e. "big lock strong!!!". Interesting how different views can be. I suppose my ideal lock would be more susceptible to a brute force attack. Meanwhile their lock could be easily raked or simply bypassed.

@LocksmithRecommended5 жыл бұрын
All inexpensive locks will have flaws that allow them to be bypassed. Keyed locks too. They only way to get something really secure from bypass is to upgrade to high security padlocks, and those are very expensive. In most cases, keeping general people out, one is as good as another, but to keep those that have studied locks out, high security is the only choice.

I would recommend not to use the lock built in to the box. Keep that unlocked. Use an ABUS filing cabinet locking bar. Double check the measurements before you buy, so you are sure it will fit. You can use different padlocks on them.

I am in need of a combination lock for our radio tower sites. Our current Master combination locks keep getting cut. I am not concerned about our chain getting cut. I just need a bullet proof lock at these sites.

Hey you can't tell us a price? I'm assuming that 3 lb ABUS with 15mm chain was no less than 180$ for both those Masters are trash you can open most with an aluminum can or two wrenches or two hammers personally I prefer an angle grinder with cutting wheel, no lock is safe from this attack.

Another way to achieve high security is buying a decent medium size steel padlock then start welding pieces of steel around it to make it bigger and stronger. You better hand forge your giant hasps and staples too to match the locks security level

Get a big dog and a tall chain-link fence topped with razor wire. Install lighting on 12-foot poles, along with a motion detector train horn. Get another big dog so that they have a friend to play with. Buy a cheap lock. See how that works. Also.....place the entire structure near your home, and keep a shotgun handy. A sign near the lock: "Please do not bother snakes inside".

@@LocksmithRecommended yeah but it's a difference of how easily. I've raked a masterlock in seconds while a more secure core could take much longer, and require a higher skill set than a masterlock. Also a lock requiring special tools like a disc detainer lock could deter a lot more beginner lock pickers. The only thing that masterlocks protect against are opportunist thieves, and people too lazy to buy a lock picking set. In my opinion, you could get a lot more locks in the same price range with much better cores, and about the same physical protection. I don't think ANYONE should use or recommend masterlocks, and I'm quite disappointed that a "locksmith" would recommend such a weak lock.

@@EvilScientist I'm waiting for your recommendation on a better $7 lock. 🤣. Contribute something.
@EvilScientist4 жыл бұрын
@@LocksmithRecommended If you're spending $7 on a lock, what you're protecting is probably not worth a lock at all. If you spend a bit more money on a abus, or if you're looking at pick resistance a yuema 750. There are plenty of cheap disc locks, and they could increase security by a ton. Heck, you could even just get something with security pins and it would make it much more secure. If you're buying a masterlock then you're just protecting against opportunist thieves that give up when they see a lock. I mean if you're gonna recommend a masterlock, make it in a video called "cheapest locks to keep the neighborhood kids out of your shed"
@penfold78004 жыл бұрын
Your recommendations for high security locks are good. In the UK, multilock pin-in-pin and the abus rock you show are good. However, PLEASE stop recommending Master lock padlocks, and DEFFINATELY DONT reccomend Masterlock combination locks (they can be opened in two seconds with a cut down wiper blade insert -some of them can be decoded with a sliver cut from a drink can). I'm getting fed up with the slew and mass-marketing Masterlock are doing, selling their old junk that the USA treat as TRASH to the unsuspecting UK public. It's truelly abhorrent that you're actually reccomending them. Clearly you're not a trustworthy locksmith

If you want a pick proof lock, you need to get a high security padlock. But a lot of people don't need or can't afford a $200 padlock. If you're not protecting a lot and you have $20, you want the best $20 lock you can get. Yes, like your house locks, inexpensive padlocks can be bypassed. But if somebody doesn't know at the time they're breaking in how to do that, you want to be able to stop the layman from getting in. See our video "Can all locks be picked?" kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2OVaZWKotd_ec0

He's not trying to steal your stuff. 80% of you couldn't pick the master lock 410. If a building is locked up with an MT5, you're probably be better off just breaking a window. You should think about stating the price points, and the ideal use for all the locks next time.
