Congratulations Dan..This is a very realistic report. I like this car with the 2ltr 4-Cylinder engine because where I live in the real world we can only travel at speed of 110kph. I am also one of the lucky ones who have gotten over my juvenile mentality. (I no longer measure things for my ego) One of the main features I have always loved about Jaguars is that they do what they do without too much noise. I just got rid of a Jaguar with v6 engine and I was really pleased to see it go. I work on my own cars and my Jaguar with the straight 6 is a much better and superior engine. As you say if you are buying a car for the track then? However if you are a beginner in this area I would suggest that you practice a lot on the track to keep your skills up to date as even this 2ltr 4 Cylinder engine will take you off the road if you don't have the skills. Anyone can go fast but not every one can keep the car on the road and not everyone survives accidents at speed. I do hope that lots of you speedsters out there have rolled a car and survived like I have, and have also learnt a lot like me a from my experiences.

Yes in uk the V6 may be 4 grand more , but in some countries it is a whopping €25,000 more, astonishing, don't think the exhaust note is justified for that kind of money, have driven the 2.0 and it is a beautiful car to drive, does not cheapen the brand at all, in the other markets it will sell well due to price, if you want big theratal noise you can buy a V6 or V8, the V8 is a different beast altogether, but not much performance difference in the 2.0 and 3.0 to warrant the extra cash in other markets alright if you live in the uk, the weight difference does make a dramatic effect coming from racing karts all my life at club level, weight and balance is crucial. Not going to say it is better than another model, but it will suit some people and orders are flying in for it, not be long before the jag aftermarket exhausts specialists get to work on a bigger noise if someone once one.

But I loved it for it's looks and comfort, and getting me about 35 mpg on the freeway, due to the all-aluminum engine and body, and I didn't need all the power and speed. Well reasoned and very capably explained... despite the inevitable uphill struggle of trying to convince those among your audience for whom the V6 or V8 soundtrack outweighs every other consideration, whether they’re willing to admit it or not... 🤔 And the extra power, of course... 💪 As for myself, though I do (partly) fall into that latter category... 😂 I’m also amenable to reason and so I can see the appeal of owning the same beautiful vehicle, with the same opulent interior, but not feeling like I need to drive it like a hooligan in order to satisfy the auditory expectations of passengers and appreciative pedestrians alike. (I’m on my 4th TVR at the moment, and it’s often been hard to drive sedately when everyone and his dog wants to hear and see what TVR’s do best). Also, though you didn’t mention it, the improved fuel consumption, lower servicing, road tax and insurance costs all contribute towards a better value motoring experience, and the 2 litre model is also sure to depreciate slower than the more potent gas guzzlers, so another point in its favour... I’d never buy a new Jaguar - since they all depreciate horribly - but a relatively new, low mileage, low previous owners specimen that’s been well looked after and maintained, is very much a performance bargain when compared to many over priced and far less desirable competitors, especially from our German neighbours... and the fact remains that a Jaguar F-Type looks far more spectacular, is a far rarer sight, and draws way more admiring glances than most of its so-called rivals, however capable they might or might not be under their bland or commonplace exterior. I’ve been strongly drawn to the V6S and particularly the grippier AWD variant, if I can stretch my budget that far. Anyone who can make a compelling case for me to buy a cheaper, less potent alternative, and pat myself on the back for my wisdom 😏 (instead of feeling like I’ve just had to make do with less 😔) is certainly “pushing at an open door” as far as I’m concerned! ✌️😊 Thanks for a well timed review of the often overlooked baby Brother, who clearly deserves as much attention as his older, more hairy chested brothers usually receive. Great Video! 👍

Firstly, I haven't driven a modern Jag with a supercharged engine, but the older ones whine, which soon gets old and annoying, so I have been put off even trying an F-Type that until this time was only available with a supercharged engine. Secondly, I tend to prefer the sound of a good V6 over most V8s, but note that the 2020 model F-Type has just been announced and the V6s are gone. Thirdly, given that Jag's V6 required a supercharger to deliver 340hp, a naturally-aspirated version would have been underpowered. And I note that n/a is now out of favour because forced induction enables manufactuers to fool the official fuel consumption tests by driving without bringing in the turbo, however, in the real world the turbo sucks more fuel. Fourthly, however, IMO, the F-Type should be offered with the naturally-aspirated V8. The 385hp variant in the bigger and heavier XK was more than enough on British roads. And if it could be tweaked to deliver more than 400hp it would get over a likely psychological hurdle now that so many hot hatches deliver 300hp+ and a few are even circa 400hp. Fifthly, most people only drive on public roads and never on track. Most new performance cars are too powerful to exploit on public roads. Most exceed the national speed limit if you rev them out in 2nd gear. IMO, more than circa 400hp is wasted on public roads, and even that likely means you exceed the speed limit in 2nd, so circa 300hp likely means you can exploit significantly more of the car without risking your licence, which is surely a good thing. Sixthly, power isn't everything...obviously. Power without good handling and braking isn't much good. Power you can't effectively put down to the road even in a straight line is not much good and even dangerous. And there are current models from prestigious makers that struggle to effectively and safely put the power they have down to the road. IMO, this Jaguar takes a step in the direction of Lotus, and that isn't necessarily a bad direction, or a bad option to be given the choice of. In conclusion, while I am sceptical of the move to 4-cylinder turbos in cars like the F-Type and 718 Porsches, I note that turbos can add to performance driving enjoyment, and that this 4-cyl F-type actually seems pretty good, and IMO, sounds pretty good, too, especially if you judge it in its own right. Also, I think it is good to have the choice of a well-rounded car that looks 'proper' compared to hot hatches, and that can also be realistically used as a daily driver. I think the car needs to be judged in its own right and considering a different context from that which applies to its siblings. Maybe those that wouldn't consider a V6/V8 as a daily would consider a 4-cyl and see its softer suspension and more neutral handling as positives on top of lower purchase price and running costs? Maybe those that are primarily concerned with how a car looks and image will also welcome a cheaper model? And let's face it, I'm not aware of a single reviewer that has said the car is not good in its own right...only that they prefer the V6/V8 versions for their sound, or in the case of the V8s, for their drama! Context is everything! As always, YMMV.

v6 and v8 sound way better than this. one of the reasons I bought this car was for the sound
@score_13377 жыл бұрын
you're probably not the only one^^ for me the f-type is defined by it's beautiful shape and the sounds it makes when driving (or even seeing one passing by) it. Soundwise i prefer the v6 over the v8, but i always liked the more raw and higher pitched engine noises. The v8 still sounds great though and it's really a matter of personal preference. The 4 zylinder though.... i haven't seen one yet but watching videos the sound just doesnt cut it for me. Power is not the problem, the ford fiesta st "only" has 180hp and is still great fun to drive. The 4 zylinder f-type might still be a great car, but it's probably the same as with porsches.... it just doesn't seem right fitting a 4 zylinder engine in these cars, i could never buy one without being dissappointed not having the v6

Nice to see the reference to flow as well - this is something I made a video about a couple of weeks ago and a vital ingredient for a good road car which often gets forgoten in the race for higher g forces and faster Nurburgring times.If only it came with a manual gearbox!!

I think that comparing the F-Type with any two-door Porsche, and knowing it's a sports car, you have to consider that the engine is in the front and in the rear there a very decent boot for a few bags, perfect for two going for a long weekend south of France. You can't say that about any two-door Porsche. And it seems quieter and more civilized overall than the other bigger cats, all the more that you only have 8 pots to go for as alternative. Completely unsustainable in Europe.

I think Jag got the whole thing wrong. Starting with my 2017 V6 - it was missing some basic features, like keyless entry or home-link garage opener - but it sounds like a beast, right from the time you start it up. That car was the "base model" in 2017 - and the lease deals were great. Now they added all the necessary bells and whistles to the base model, but fitted it with a 4-banger. Hey - it's a Jag F-type - what freaking 4-cyl??? And the deals again are great - but only for the 4-cyl version. So now my lease is up, I love the car, the styling, the sound, the power - but will most likely have to settle for the base model again, not wanting to spend an extra $200/month... What a shame!!!

Best choice is a V8; theatre, drama and outright thrills. Don't talk to me about the environment and being sensible. My V8 also has great throttle response. It also comes with a massive grin every time you hit the start button. Hard to describe it once you press on the gas but certainly cant see it here. Buying an F-Type 2L probably bought by people that buy low fat cheese or stick to the missionary position.

Nah still think the V6 is the best choice for an F type imo. You get the better MPG closer to the 4 cylinder but you also get the beautiful exhaust notes and more power closer to the V8. It’s just the best mid ground for everyday use.

Not really. The v6 is just 0.3s faster. Thats why Jag kicked it from most countries. Noone buys it as its worthless. The 2.0 is currently more than 50% of the F-Type sales.

Dan, well done. You're right. The V6 and V8s can't really hold a candle to any equivalent Porsche, unless punters think that wearing a massive discount assuages that sinking feeling they're driving something deeply inferior....which, of course, they are :-). However, this 4-pot F-Type appears to be the most cohesive of all F-Types and, therefore, mechanically superior as a 'sporting' car. Pity about not having a manual and all the electric shizzle left hanging around just adding 'fat-ness', but maybe one day all those lovely F and E-Paces will finance a proper sports car that tips the scales sub-1500 kg.....
@daryldevine85175 жыл бұрын
Can't hold a candle in what respect? Well, for a start, looks and sound, there's one clear winner and it's the F-Type. That's two thirds of what most folk look for. Even a Turbo S can't "hold a candle" to the sound of the Jaguar V8 and there's one clear winner with the looks department - and it's certainly not the boring and bland looking Turbo S.

if someone wants to race with you, let's say Aston martin with a V8 engine...A V4 will be...I mean you already paid that much money if you get the new car, why not get a v6 to match this beautiful body and you can also have that confidence when racing? (that's only my thought)
@patrickzhao90724 жыл бұрын
I think most of the people bought or want to buy this car because of the design. If you really want more horsepower for less money...C-class AMG, Chevrolet or Corvette Z06, etc are there for you.
@TheSmartbear13 жыл бұрын
Racing usually involves going round corners, the 2litre’s faster round these than the bigger engined cars. Unless you mean drag racing? In which case you’ve still bought the wrong model as motorbikes are faster.

Bovine Scatology ! 4 cylinders belong in crappy little rice turd cars NOT Jaguars! Then why don't you buy a bloody Corolla? As for the $50K price tag, SAAB ragtops were nearly that much in 1999.

In the meantime and to avoid a car sounding like a lawnmower I think I will be keeping my F Type SVR and both the thrill of 3.5 second 0-60 time and the bangs and crackles that go with it. Don't care about fuel economy or the environment. For those who want to save the planet.... use public transport

But the character is lost. Headlights are now ugly, no more cheek gills, ugly exhaust tip, lost its beautiful sound, no more bronze interior trims. Its just ruined an already beautiful car. The only thing upgraded are the seats and the infotainment system.
@dovahkiin0090876 жыл бұрын
Headlights are basically the same only very minor changes, you can get the cheek grills, as im pretty sure they are standard, just a single exhaust, literally the same as the dual just in the center, and who cares about silly trim. The changes are very minor, unnoticeable basically. It has character of its own, more nimble, still great sound especially with the dynamic mode or whatever its called, better torque response because of the weight drop, almost 10 grand american less from dropping 2 cylinders, its still insane.
@swanblake7 жыл бұрын
Sounds awful and has no manual. I can't support your opinion. Is the 52kg savings in the front when compared to the V6 or V8?
@midlifecrisismotorcyclist7 жыл бұрын
Each to their own and at least, unlike Porsche, Jaguar still offers a six- or eight-cylinder option too! Pity about the manual but their experience shows so few people want them it's not worth their while. It's even lower than the 5% quoted in the video in fact - less than half that in fact! And the 52kg is compared with the V6, mostly but not entirely from the engine. Thanks!

You can hear how slow that transmission is-- I've had the 8 speed ZF evoque in my family and let me tell you, it's an awfully slow transmission. Don't let anybody fool you.
@mkIIIsupras5 жыл бұрын
Well a ZF trans in one car will feel much different from a ZF in another car. Its all on how the manufacturers tuned them. Most manufacturers will tune them for lazy smooth shifts for drive ability and best fuel consumption. They are very stout transmissions that can be tuned for lightning fast and rock hard shifts if your are aiming for the best performance. The new supra runs the ZF trans and the majority of people that reviewed the car say its the best tuned ZF trans on the market.
