The 4 Stages of Swallowing: Biomechanics & Bolus Movement

With a normal swallow, food and liquids move from the mouth into the esophagus directed by a precise sequence of coordinated muscle movements. In order to adequately describe the biomechanics and bolus movement during swallow, the 4 stage model was developed: Oral Prepatory Stage, Oral Transit Stage, Pharyngeal Stage, and Esophageal Stage. The animation describes each of these stages which provides the necessary background knowledge in order to understand when swallowing is abnormal.

Why there is clinking sound sometimes when Swalloing

The clinking sound when swallowing is the opening of the eustachian tube which connects your nasopharynx (part above your soft palate in the roof of ur mouth) to ur ears to equalize the pressure. It opens whens swallowing due to the muscles attached to it which contract when swallowing allowing air to pass through this tube into the middle ear from the nasopharynx.

parabéns mas tenho uma duvida. A epiglote abre e fecha para controlar "guiar" a comida e bebida. e tambem a entrada e saida de ar. no meu caso, de forma que nao controlo é como se minha epiglote fechasse a passagem do ar de forma involuntária. eu "paro" e respirar de forma aleatoria e com regularidade, contra a minha vontade mesmo quando não estou comendo, e as vezes eu me engasgo bebendo água. Me da uma luz? oque voce acha?

@@its__rich I hope your throat gets better. The hot drink Thera flu works for me or DayQuil syrup. Hot water alone helps as well. You can squeeze lemon and add honey if you have it in hand. Good luck buddy 🤞🏾
