I started PSMF in early Feb but got interupted with a first ever gout attack in early March. I have been long time fat adapted in ketosis. My goal was to see if less fat would improve my "residual" metabolic syndrome. Most noteably excessive morning gluconeogenesis. Results were good. Glucose and BP coming fown. Starting again soon. Want to be deep into it for next triglyceride measurement. Learned a lot about uric acid. You may want to explore that.

did a podcast on the the UA, gout, and pseudo gout probably should do a video as well. Thanks Peter.
@petercyr35082 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think elevated UA plays a huge part in causing metabolic syndrome. The main cause of high UA is fructose. I consume virtually none, but I believe I make way more fructose than the average fat adapted keto person would. Dr. Rick Johnson is working with me on this. He is a great guy, just like you.
@DrKarlGoldkamp-KetoNaturopath2 жыл бұрын
@@petercyr3508 By necessity I've had to look into other factors that raise UA (outside of fructose) given my love for liver and sure enough vitamiin A is a driver (easy to find documentation as in studies on this). I also feel Omega 6 (rather a lopsided ratio like most Americans have today) is another driver. All interesting stuff for sure.

Thank you Dr. Goldkamp, You went through a lot of information, however, some of the key factors that I am looking to find I can’t find in your videos. Such as what should our goal of fat grams and carb grams be while doing PSMF? Also, is there a specific caloric range that PSMF requires or is the only important thing the protein grams with no additional fat or carbs?

I don't know if I have a mental block or what, but I can't eat 4x's a day. 3x's and I'm good. My requirement is 180g/day. Lately, been doing a minimum of 60g per meal, but usually average over 200g/day. It may be that my schedule doesn't usually allow me to eat my first meal before 9am. I do however go to they gym and lift weights at lunch time (nearly) every weekday so maybe that's good enough for my "4th" muscle protein stimulus each day? Either way, I'm down about 11lbs in the last month with no significant loss of strength or stamina at the gym, even in a pretty big calorie deficit most of the time.

Great video Dr . I am doing PSMF at the moment and I like your video on how to make PSMF as a lifestyle. I see many advantages of doing it like getting advantage of keto diet , carb cycling , maintain muscle or stimulate muscle growth and improve insulin sensitivity . However, I have some questions if I want to maximise the benefits 1. I am doing it with IF fasting at the moment. Can I do your plan along with IF and consume 3 high protein meals in 6-8 hour window 2. If I workout in a fasted state (weightlifting) , will it affect my muscle growth or maintenance ( I workout at the last hour of my fasting window then break my fasting with high protein meal .

Last question 1st: we work out fasted all the time. We are at the gym 3 times / week 6:30 fasted. I doesn't compromise your MPS. I did a video comparing IF to PSMF here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3SmiqaAgcqDrdk

Good information Doctor! Would one track fat as well? Is there a weight/height chart for fat?
@DrKarlGoldkamp-KetoNaturopath2 жыл бұрын
I don't track fat personally or feel it's necessary. Important to always have some fat, as you probably know already, so focusing on lean whole food protein source as opposed to a calculation has proven more sustainable for people to do long term. I always encourage people to use cronometer or some other food tracker so that they know what they are getting and as very imperfect as that is, it does have RDAs etc. so for those who what that degree of specificity they can get it there.

Great video! Does the protein target stay the same on the "off" days? Also, I was using the Maria Emmerich macros for a couple months (same protein numbers as your chart, 10 g fat, 10 g total carbs). My brain was clearly not firing on all cylinders. I'm taking a low carb paleo break, and the mind is back, but the weight loss is reversing. I think the difference for my brain is the fat and the difference for my weight is the carbs, but I really don't know. I'm planning to start PSMF again but without being so drastic on cutting the fat (maybe 50g instead of 10g). Would love your thoughts on any and all of this.
@DrKarlGoldkamp-KetoNaturopath2 жыл бұрын
Her approach is different the what we are suggesting. On off days yes same protein requirements. Since my days in the macro-calculation world of Keto I don't calculate or encourage people to calculate their fat unless the are losing fat mass too rapidly (haven't seen that yet btw). We purposely focus on a minimal calculations by only having them know what their protein amount is and become comfortable with being able to 'eye-ball' what that looks like so that do this in a sustainable manner long term.
@carterbellwebster2 жыл бұрын
@@DrKarlGoldkamp-KetoNaturopath Excellent. That makes the whole process much simpler. I'm not the slightest bit worried that I'll lose fat mass too rapidly! ;-)

How about doing this 7 days a week but eating 5 whole eggs a day? Would I lose the benefits or speed?
@DrKarlGoldkamp-KetoNaturopath5 ай бұрын
What you're asking is can a person continually consume only lean meat (whole food sources of protein, meat, fish, poultry, etc). On the face of it basically it is possible. However the potential to create dangerous nutrient deficiency is high for most people. Most people also don't consider the microbiome transition necessary to take place to sustain this dietary choice. If one is considering this long term then they should get monthly labs and be followed fairly closely. Most people fail, but a few who are careful and aware of what they are doing do extraordinarily well.
@sovereignbrother2 жыл бұрын
What if someone can't AFFORD those higher sources of meat? Just curious.

Do you supplement with choline on psmf days? And no mct on those days? I'm worried about brain function.
@DrKarlGoldkamp-KetoNaturopath2 жыл бұрын
Great Question. I minimally use MCT oil. I most certainly treasure it but don't use it that much. I see it as a condiment that I put on my food a little. As to Choline my predominant 'supplement' for it is egg yolks in the form of waffles or crêpes of egg yolks. I will begin testing a variety of choline supplements but as will all nutrients the best source is from whole foods, then to supplement to that. The spectrum of Choline supplements from lecithin to sophisticated Nootropics stacks is huge. It is easy to make choline into a problem by taking too much, like a drug. So caution is advised. On my PSMF days I generally do not have either MCT or Egg yolks ... depending on how strict I am being for those days.

I want to enlist in the Marine Corps and PSMF is my one way ticket to dropping the last 40 lbs. My only concern on this diet is my electrolyte intake. I follow Lyle's PSMF and work out 3 times a week as suggested in his book. I'd say they are pretty intense workouts but I don't sweat too profusely. Should I be drinking electrolytes after every workout session or just once a week?

I become extremely depressed if I do not have some carbs. There is so many different diets out there. The key to all of them is eliminating processed foods and lowering fats. You seem to have a blissful life I hope you continue to stay healthy and enjoy it.
