Okay, but my biggest issue with learning toplane is how to know when the match-up is bad. How to you determinate such thing when you're playing for the first time? For example, I'm not a toplaner main, but I'm trying to pick up the lane. Every champion vs any champion for me is first time.

You can look up stats, there are game stats and lane stats available for all elo and regions ;)

You just have to get destroyed until you figure it out. Alternatively you can look up how challenger players play certain matchups to see how they use their abilities in a particular matchup.

If you look up the runes you can see the 10 worst match ups for your Champs. Those are really the only ones you need to care about

That's the fun part, you don't. You just have to limit test and learn yourself or watch enough vods/play both champs to figure out when you are stronger. The easiest champs to play around are the ones with massive level 6 spikes.

With regards to Mistake #3, wouldn't it also be acceptable to TP if the enemy top laner has good waveclear and walking back could cause you to lose XP/CS? Especially if your champ has the sustain to freeze it under tower and leave the enemy laner in a vulnerable spot?

Depends. In most cases, especially early game, you should make it back in time if you did your base right unless they tp as well. If they tp it might be acceptable to tp as well. As I said if it's early game then they probably don't have the wave clear yet. Losing a few minions isn't a big deal. Late game you'd want to save your tp for some thing more important. But I mean a smart toplaner that just died would want to try to keep the minions on their side of the map any ways for as long as possible, so against good enemies they won't be just auto shoving to your tower any ways.

I regularly do this. Either because the enemy is a Yorick or Sion, or because i greeded for a turret plate or just fucked up my base timing. I feel like its worth if you would lose a whole wave otherwise. It can backfire however, when you get clapped and lose 3 waves bc tp is on cd. Edit: would love to hear opinions of other toplaners.

@@nekrosis4431 Back timings are a difficult thing to explain because of all the variable involved. Basic rule of thumb is if you just got your opponent out of lane then you should shove and back asap if it's still early game. However, if you killed them, and it's still a slow push on either side, you should probably back right then and there instead. It should still be in a fairly neutral state by the time you get back depending. When the enemy tps you need to take in consideration a few things. Do they have the wave clear to shove to your tower fast enough to make you miss a considerable amount of xp? Do you think you're tping into a 2v1 and if so can you survive it and stick around or win the 2v1? Some times tping into a 2v1 is a good thing if you think you can waste the enemy jger's time. And some times it's correct to just tp back immediately. Just being strong and on the map to help your jger could be a good thing. Or set up an invade by yourself or just gank mid. And there's more things to think about than even that >.>

Irelia gets destroyed level 1 against K'Sante. Having a 3 melee minion advantage doesn't change that. Having more casters can make a big difference. Having more melees means next to nothing if K'Sante kites them while hitting Irelia. If Irelia moves towards the melees, K'Sante hits all of them plus Irelia with a Q and the minions are equalized. That tip makes no sense in that matchup.

These tips are always based on top lane and not what’s going on in game. The scenarios shown are great but I have one thing I want to know. Is bot lane and mid lane down 0-2 currently? Because claiming top lane is getting impatient is not always true. If you stay patient and do it right but another lane is not 0/0/0 like yours then you have to take a risk and fight and get that kill lead to have a chance at winning the game. Same goes for dying in top lane it now puts pressure on another lane to get a kill because as a team you need the lead.

Mistake 1 is a huge disadvantage for Mordekaiser: His P,Q,E are all AOE so he can't really punish enemies which are farming without destroying the wave, making champs like Nasus a good counterpick. It's pretty much impossible to build a lead as Mordekaiser vs good players

If it's low elo, you can play Morde in that scenario, just shove and then the wave bounces, you only last hit. Once it's on your side of the lane, you pop ghost and you get to kill Tahm, then head back to your wave and freeze or shove it if it's already pushing back. This works against Nasus too, just freeze it on him, don't let him farm or don't perma-shove.

I’m relatively new to league but I main mord and just smack people with Q to knock them around early and then grab if I can. If I get the grab then I can get 3 consecutive hits and kill off the entire enemy wave with the aura. If they want to farm my minions when I shove then they might have to eat some Qs

I have the biggest and only answer to this problem: Stop playing Shen because you think he's good. Stop buying Dumpsterfire Aegis on him. It's the worst item on him. That's how you get 3-4 times less cs than your opposing top laner.

What I don't understand is how you are supposed to make the wave push into your opponent when he plays something like ghost Darius and just plans to all in you level 1. Do you just step back and allow him to take the slowpush or what are you supposed to do?

I assume the best answer is that you have to suck it up and let him get level 1 push lead. I don't know though, I've almost always messed up laning against Darius. It's not an easy champ to play against. I can't do the slow push strat because he knows when to freeze, and fast pushes result in him running me down. I guess I just need more experience in that matchup.

Allow him to get prio if your champion can’t stop it and play around your waves like any other matchup. If you’re building a big wave on the bounceback even a Darius can’t straight up fight you in it. Freezing in a Darius matchup is golden as he can’t run you down by your turret anymore. Best tip against Darius i learned is his e has a massive 24 second cooldown, and if it is down he doesn’t have any defensive capabilities so play around that timer and punish him if he wastes it.

The thing for me is once they push the wave to my tower then they can just hit my tower for free as I'd have to choose between attacking them or farming. In this video the enemy just pushes the wave then backs off so you get last hits for free.

Then go back and recall why'll you are still dealing with the wave. You have to choose to hit the enemy away or last hit minions. Either way they win that trade even if they have to recall for health as they get tower shots or you loose farm.

@@wt8213 Bro if its a tank then you're playing it all wrong. You shouldn't be losing early game to a tank. If the enemy is getting strong enough to beat your ass like that and then get up to tower for free you need to relook at how you're playing the lane. Are you being super aggressive for no reason? Not understanding their trade patterns? Not understanding your own? You have a serious problem if you're losing to tanks early like that. So your problem isn't the tower, it's the whole laning phase.

First clip with darius looks like mine but its not my elo, as a otp tahm i know its barely posible to win agains darius early on. But if he make a mistake and push it then he is stuck ij range of tahm tower, and if only he is still there at lvl6, he no longer can duel. Bck his passive +tahm ult can force darius to 'dive' unintentionaly. This is for every champ with dot or aoe over time like nasus ult/morde passive and so on. But its main fault that you think darius is beating tanks, bck its way more complicated, bck darius may win agains some, while others melt him like there are no tommorow. Its also important what time in game is it. With full builds tahm vs darius its fight in favour of tahm, while early on its near impossible to win unless darius make a mistake. So this mutchup its like who get ganked more, or who win lvl 6. After that its toplane, so eather darius or tahm if get some fed he can easly 1v2, and even if lose that its most likely it was 1:1 trade in kills. I disslike this guide for beeing so shallow. And talking aboit basic in examples that are not 'skill' based only in situatin when champion can barely do anything. It was said that tahm losing trade while it was intentional bck darius pushed wave by that, so its him who loses trade. Freezing lane in top is way more impactful in mutchup kike that then 2 kills. Lvl differance + 1st item advantage are way to strong in game right now(items power are bigger then champion power)

As a Teemo main, I usually stay invis in range of minions in the start, 99% of low elo players will push the lane. You might lose the first 3 minions gold depends on the matchup, but you can create a freeze everytime. Poke them everytime they come up to farm, try your best to keep the wave frozen, then wait for jungler to gank them. That's how I usually get a lead
