I remember playing this with a friend back in 87. We were super excited when we got the auto docking module, it was a real game changer. 😍

I played an unhealthy amount of Frontier through my school years... I was so proud when I learned manual landings - and discovered that city domes didn't have hitboxes so I could just land in the middle of the towers and soak up the scenery. Also hex editing the imperial trader to be super fast with 100s of light years of range because it was the most visually glorious ship. Would love to see that triple engine design make a comeback :') Also wish ED would get proper atmospheric planets. Clouds, fog, rain, snow, lakes, seas... even if it's only sterile worlds to get started with. It's so weird that I could land on Titan and Venus in the 90s, but not in 2024.

I still remember that moment in '84 after 6 min. of tape loading, the appearance of the spinning cobra on my BBC-B. It was the time of packman and this was really something different.

I was 7 years old and according to my brothers "too young to play Elite" in 1984. Well, I showed them when they started asking me how I did some of the things I did in that game.

I remember this time well and the massive impact Elite had on gaming, though as a teen, it was the CBM64 version I purchased in 1984. It's had one hell of a fantastic transformation into ED. Back then of course, there was no internet. Loading games from (and saving onto) cassette was very 'slow'...very different than the instant 'click' today. We all played this game almost endlessly - it was that different from everything before, a truly open game play, do what you want to do. A real miracle of programming...100% assembly language on a tiny memory footprint. One thing we all had then was a highly developed 'gaming work ethic' - you literally had to persist and solve every challenge yourself no internet, little/no walkthroughs/aids. The internet, today, has certainly had an impact on that in making people less focussed and more demanding, lol.

Myself and a friend used to take turns playing Elite on his BBC, and later my ZX Spectrum (he was posher and richer than me!). We used to wonder about whether it would be possible if there would be a time when we could both play at the same time and have a ship each and explore the Galaxy together. When the Kickstarter for ED came along all those years later, this was a dream that could finally be realised. I pledged far too much money to help it get to its funding goal, but the community in the KS project were brilliant and it was a wild ride! Now, I have no idea where that friend is these days and playing at the same time as other people isn’t the promised land it was supposed to be but Elite Dangerous truly is what I dreamed about all those years ago. I really hope that it continues to evolve and develop but holds on to ethos that made it such a great game to begin with in that a person with a sidewinder and a few hundred credits can do whatever it is they want to do.

It's amazing how far gaming has come since those early days on the BBC and ZX Spectrum! Your journey and passion for Elite Dangerous truly reflects the essence of gaming and community. Here’s hoping it continues to evolve while staying true to its roots!

I saw the first elite on a friend's c64 and fell in love immediately. It took me 2 more years to get one copy on my atari st. From then on I played all titles including the horrible buggy first encounter. In times where internet didn't provide updates. I surpassed all bugs as good as possible to finish the quest line. Good old days. Now I have over 2500h gameplay on EDO and still have fun...

It's difficult to over-state the importance of Elite on the industry. There's some important industry finger-prints on the franchise. Nintendo developed the idea of 3D hardware with Argonaut founded by Jez San, who had worked on the C64 port of Elite with Braben & Bell. As well as pioneering the idea of a GPU and producing StarFox Nintendo would, for a while, work with Sony on a 3D hardware orientated console, when that deal fell through, Sony released their own console...hmmm Chris Sawyer (of Rollercoaster Tycoon fame) converted Braben's 68000 machine code to x86 for Frontier Elite 2 and also gave us Elite Plus. Important key people getting their hands on the golden goose at various stages in their career.

I found about Elite from the now dead russian version (some may not agree, but this is the closest comparison) of Encyclopedia Dramatica - wiki about memes and stuff, in, like 2012. I liked the concept, since I was space nerd since elementary school, so I just went and downloaded slightly modded version of FFE to run on current Windows. With help of some fan-site (elite games ru, I love you!) I started to dive in. Man, what a journey! I alwsys was fond of old games, esp from 90s, but thst was something. And then 2014 comes, and thunder news break: ELITE DANGEROUS TO BE! You can imagine my emotions. Sadly, game was a bit expensive on release, so I patiently waited for steam release. Playing since, having fun.

I didn't get into elite until dangerous came out. Even then it was after it's official release. However I still play It to this day. I know there are things that could be done much better. However I had the sneaking suspicion that something is coming soon. New ships, power play revamp, I dunno. I don't think we're done yet with this game.

Love this content Ricardo, answer to the question statement, Elite needs to move forward with an updated Elite. Doctor Who did. Lol. They know what most of us would like. After all it was first on a BBC LOL. PC, edit...I don't understand why I come across people who hate Oddessy, I don't love every aspect of the game it shift to like or somewhat like, even when I have to grind! Also I have a spreadsheet of what I earn, when they do events such as now in a couple of hours I earned $630,845,042.00. Events, mostly like them.

I was a concept when this game was born. 😂 One of my favorite experience was when I realised that I’m floating in dark as a microscopic dot, and suddenly, my cockpit became the safest place in the game… damn. ❤️🫡
