I worked for a tile company once in Toronto who told me to install new tiles over a kitchen vinyl floor. I told them that eventually they would lift and their response was..."just more work for the future". I quit immediately. If installers don't work with integrity, it will only bite them in the butt.

I just replaced a tile bathroom floor for a lady that had it done by someone else 5 years ago. They nailed wonderboard down over sheet vinyl floor with smooth shank roofing nails no adhesion between the wonderboard and the vinyl and a lot of flex. The grout was cracking, and they told her it was because she didn't seal the grout, it was because the tiles were flexing all over the place. We ripped everything out to subfloor, and laid the new tiles on a decoupling membrane.

The presidents of both Jayman and Cedarglen postponed their renos until my partner and I were available. That's something to be proud of. The body usually goes before the desire though and time caught me. Now I change tires and I still get consulted for difficult situations. Why? Because I do it right. And they all see that.

At 20:26 "The door swings in, which means we don't knock people out when we exit the bathroom". There actually is a lot of good to be said for a door to a small room like a bathroom to swing out. For example if a person collapses inside, that person will not then collapse against the door and prevent it from opening. By legislation all doors to small rooms should open outwards.
@ChristianWagner888 Жыл бұрын
"By legislation all doors to small rooms should open outwards." Please quote such a code requirement? In which country or state? We open all bathroom doors inward, as the bathrooms were designed with sufficient space. Bumping someone in the hallway with the bathroom door would be the main risk. Only shower doors, like that glass door are required to open outwards AFAIK.
@alantorrance6153 Жыл бұрын
My suggestion that all doors to small rooms should open outward is a suggestion (and I think a very good one). It is NOT YET fact. Some many years ago my late Dad (a Doctor) was called to a neighbour who had collapsed inside his small toilet room -- yes, against the door. He had to help their son climb through a small window to move the inert adult. Strangely, another local person also much more recently collapsed in similar circumstances, and they had to break down to door to get in. In both cases, if the doors had opened OUTWARDS, there would have been no real hassle.@@ChristianWagner888

I always been a fan of sliding "pocket doors" for inner doors like master bathroom if not no door at all with it being in the bedroom only.. If I ever get to draw my own home to build, all the inner doors would be sliding... LOL After all, if your sleeping under my roof you best trust me enough not to need to lock the door.. LOL

@@ChristianWagner888 He said SHOULD as it to be a suggestion. By the way, bumping someone in the hallway is such a small risk it's laughable and indeed in most European countries all doors to toilet(wash)rooms and other small rooms do swing outwards. Because it makes sense as hallways are lost space and buildings are not endless. (oh and most glass doors in shower stalls are either sliding or swing both ways OR go outwards).

I was told by the Landlord to just open the windows in the winter so moisture wouldn't build up...

Always keep copies of the paperwork from work that is done to the home, and always make sure that the people doing the work are certified and have a license number. If they don't, then don't hire them at all. But if they do have a license number and they do a terrible job, then you can go after them in court.
@dbeaulieu9730 Жыл бұрын
In Canada, licenses are not required and anyone with a toolbox can do the work. As far as taking them to court, that can be done regardless as long as you have proof they did the work.

Sorry, but Sean was right. Plastic sheeting comes in various thicknesses, which are measured in "mil." A mil is equal to one-thousandth of an inch or 0.001 inch, similar to the thickness of a human hair. The most common thickness rating for plastic sheeting is 6 mil, which is 0.006 inch or 6-thousandths of an inch. Mil in this instance doesn't mean millimeter.
