This season doesn’t even feel like a game show. It feel more like a survival documentary with some social experiment mixed in. And a lot of moralizing about whether strategy or alliances is “ethical”
@rima72862 жыл бұрын
God i miss that feeling. Survivor now is 80% strategy and theres episodes where all conversations are strategy related. The producers cant help it but man i miss it.
@SindileWren2 жыл бұрын
@@rima7286 what do you mean the “producers can’t help it”?? The determine the entire narrative of how things go every season, every week.
@Shutterbun42 жыл бұрын
@@SindileWren the problem is that players start forming "final three" alliances within 10 minutes of hitting the beach these days. Controlling narrative is one thing, but I also think the producers are aware that a "slow burn" like season 1 is impossible these days, now that the game has essentially been "solved" in its current state. Would be cool to see an "old school rules" season though. No extra idols, no tribe swap, no advantages, previous votes break ties, etc.
@freddytang21282 жыл бұрын
@@Shutterbun4 well if you want an old school season, closest you’ll get is probably New Zealand survivor season 1. Without spoiling anything, incredibly boring and predictable. There’s no idols and only few twists. The boot order was so obvious after awhile, you almost snooze in second half of the season. I don’t think we want that
@Serraph1082 жыл бұрын
Honestly, going back and watching, Rich really wasn't that bad this season. The worst thing you can say about him was that he was arrogant, but if that's the worst you got you've basically got a hero while on the show.

I'm pretty sure I hated that he won back when I was a kid. Now it's like no wonder he won, he was the first contestant that actually understood the politics, which is the foundation for the entire game.

I remembered when I was young in Malaysia, Survivor Borneo made a huge impact that the Government Television Station bought rights to broadcast survivor Borneo because it was filmed in Malaysia. I remembered watching that one episode where that old guy was voted out, how time flies. Now the Island is a tourist spot for Survivor fans.

Most folks really don’t understand how big Survivor was in its first season. They were everywhere. CBS went in with advertising. Recap shows replayed Susan’s legendary speech. The Real World on MTV was in its twilight years and this show slipped right in. This aired the summer before my sophomore year in college and some of my friends talked about auditioning on our 18th birthday. We never followed through because the season that filmed and aired around that time was Survivor All Stars. Greg would have been a perfect cast member for Real World or Road Rules. What a walk down memory lane.

@seraphinaedan10332 жыл бұрын
That’s honestly wild and heartwarming about Rudy in that pre-game interview to the odd couple relationship with Rich. At its concept, survivor was a game about bringing people who never would have met otherwise together I think of Mike gently learning about Islamic prayer from Omar last season, and idk just thinking silly poetic thoughts about how survivor is a reflection of society

Thanks to you, my husband who had never seen survivor before & I are now binging all the seasons starting from the very beginning! It's so neat for me since I have seen it but it's been 20 years since I've watched it so some of it is new for me. I completely agree the first seasons are the best as far as looking more like a documentary of survival than a game/reality TV show. I can't believe how much I still love this show ❤️

About that "guess your weight chocolate bar" challenge that was featured in the dvd. Because of how long it would take for the winners loved one to get from Los Angeles to Malaysia for the yacht reward, they needed something for the remaining castaways to do to pass the time. Greg would never sign up for modern Survivor. Survivor became everything he *didn't* want it to become. He didn't want it to become a game of lying and manipulating and strategizing. I think he wanted it to just stay as an adventure and a social experiment where someone happens to win $1 million at the end lmao at least from what I remember. As much as I'd love to see he and Colleen make an epic return.. I'm not holding my breath lol

In my humble opinion, Greg Buis was one of the most fascinating individuals to have ever played Survivor. He hated the concept of Survivor while he was on Pulau Tiga, so I’m in agreement that he would not be a fan of the modern game. If you read Mark Burnett’s book about the Borneo season, he gets in-depth in his psychoanalysis of Greg. Really fascinating
