The San Francisco 49ers have advanced to the postseason after Jimmy Garoppolo led them to a to 27-24 OT win over the Los Angeles Rams. Chris Broussard believes this is a statement win, silencing all the Jimmy G doubters, but Nick Wright isn't so sure. Watch as he lays out why he still doesn't believe Garoppolo can take the 49ers to another Super Bowl.

Jimmy may have had an up and down regular season. But throughout his tenure with sf, he has led so many game winning and tying drives for the 49ers. Against Chicago and Tennessee in 2017, against Pittsburgh, Arizona, and New Orleans in 2019. And even this season, he came all the way back against Green Bay after a sluggish first half. Beat cincy in ot, tied up the Titans game before losing obviously. And then yesterday, when they had a 0.5 percent chance to win at the 2 minute warning, he delivers. Just shows how tough and gritty he is in hard fought matches. I have a garoppolo shirt and I’m gonna wear it proud next Sunday, hopefully we can beat the cowchickens.

What Nick cannot understand is a clutch player. Jimmy G is not elite as he keeps saying, which is true. But when the game is on the line and he has to perform - 9 times out of 10 he comes through. This was obvious in the overtime against the Rams. He drove them down the field, got them a field goal. Then he counted on the opposite of clutch playing from Matt Stafford and he came through with an interception ending any chance of the Rams winning. What Nick seems to forget is there is more than just elite and not in QBs. There are also clutch QBs who win when they are on the line. Jimmy G is one of those QBs. Matt Stafford is definitely not. LA Rams fans are about to find out.

@@Joes35 I understand football plenty. This is the Alex Smith conundrum. SF moved on from Smith to Kapeirnick and got to a Super Bowl. KC moved on from Smith to Mahomes and won a SB. It's also the same reason Sean Mcvay traded Jared Goff. Are you going to say Andy Reid, Jim Harbaugh and Sean Mcvay don't know anything about football too? Sometimes it backfires on you too. Washington correctly determined they weren't going to achieve their goals with Kirk Cousins so they moved on, but they are still looking for a QB. That is a possibility with switching to a young talent as well. But the QB position in the NFL is so important that you have to be willing to move on from Mediocre to try and get better. Minnesota traded for mediocre Cousins, and now their coach and GM are fired

I couldn't said it better myself, even his thought processes is flawed so we aren't supposed to give Mahomes any credit for winning the SB because the first 3 quarters he was getting outplayed by Jimmy G and the only reason they won was because Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, Andy Reid, the defense and Jimmy Gs 4th quarter collapse, not Mahomes play in the 4th

At least nick got silenced with the “play Trey lance” bs, disrupting the team mojo when they’re still trying to get into the playoffs, they got into the playoffs. Sorry Nick, that’s not how teams are gonna operate, they’re not gonna pivot from their starter for the rookie QB unless that starter gets injured.

Nick is dead on. Garoppolo is always the good and the bad. Broussard, only looks at the good. Wright, looks at the bad. It's both folks. The gift and the curse with Garoppolo is you always get both, which is why the Niners traded up for Trey Lance and will be a legit Super Bowl contender next year as a result.

@@Joes35 it’s just that usually Jimmy doesn’t overcome his turnovers. I’m a 9er fan and I was pleasantly surprised by the way he settled down. First off the stat about when the team plays with or without Jimmy G is a very misleading one , of course when a teams starting QB is out the win ratio is going to be lower. In short he is not a winning QB , he is just on a team that knows how to win with what they got.
