My grandfathers 1973 f250 has the same hit and miss knock. Never under a load. Was weird. Was thinking crank or rod bearing on its way out but it was just a OE flex plate cracked.

I wasn't sure if those had a timing belt or timing chain. My guess was going to be timing chain slide/guide. Good fix Austin!

Better to have to do the work now before it starts getting snowy out! I hate the drips coming off the rig when it’s melting!

Another great vid Austin. Watching your work on the vehicles is almost therapeutic. Big fan all the way from the Solomon Islands in the Pacific.

Flex plate cracked just like yours on my kids ‘99 XJ. Sounded like a rod knock at idle then would completely disappear at any load or increased RPM. Have seen a few since so seems like it’s becoming more common.

Those flexplate bolts need thread sealant. The treads go all the way through. Gonna have an oil leak through the threads.

The water pump is driven by the timing belt.

I bought a brand new Toyota water pump for my 2jzgte and it made that same noise when I installed it. I replaced it no more noise. I guess it’s not uncommon.

Good Job, and....you have "cows nerves", you did not even swear...at all;o), question: For rear main seal, some people say dont use any gasketmaker, silicone on it, seems like you had something on it, gasketmaker???, you think that should be used, when installing rear main?? Just wondering, youtheman =))
