I’m so glad the Longest Day was on here one of the best and most underrated WWII films. Great Vid!
@georgekaragiannakis66373 жыл бұрын
A number of actors in the Longest Day actually fought in the D Day battle including Richard Todd, who took part in the action at the Pegasus Bridge and played Maj. John Howard of the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry. Another interesting fact that reinforces your point about no CGI was that the military force assembled for the movie was the 16th largest in the world at that time.

Deserves a remake, an accurate one, but one that can once again explore the many perspectives of D-Day, just with more modern resources and camera work.

Both Richard Todd and Edmund O’Brien who were in D-Day: The Sixth of June would later be in The Longest Day.

The Longest Day is not an American movie, it is an American, French, British and German movie with multiple directors and screenwriters. You also didn’t mention that most of its battle sequences were filmed at the actual locations in which they took place.

The Longest Day is indeed a masterpiece, from the book by Cornelius Ryan who interviewed everybody he could lay his hands upon. A more complete telling of the D-Day I have never come across. Makes me wonder if you have ever considered his other major book "A Bridge too Far"? Your opinion of that would be of interest!

The Longest Day, purely because it focuses on other nation not just America. Reminder to all those US worshippers also that after the beaches America had it easy compared to the British and Canadians who were facing multiple panzer divisions around Caen.
@__Man_3 жыл бұрын
More Americans became casualties than any other allied country in the battle of Normandy. So no, they did not have it worse.
@deason23653 жыл бұрын
The panzer division were nowhere near the beach landings and the one that came close were whipe out by naval shelling. Also Omaha was the largest landing and most fortified and Utah and omaha had the most artillery deployed against them, omaha and Utah had the roughest water witch caused the American tanks to sink before they could make it to shore and the British and Canadians didn't even start their attacks till an hour after the us landings when most german forces were rerouted to omaha and Utah. Most fortifications on the British and Canadian landing were whiped out by bombing runs, done by the us, and naval barrages. Most the bombing sand naval rounds over shot Utah and omaha leaving most those fortifications unscaved do to lack of light

@Thomas Hancock Again, the U.S. were not late to the war, U.S. forces have been actively engaging Axis Forces since 1942. In 1941, the year in which Operation Barbarossa took place, the U.S. did not have a sizable armed forces to begin campaigning against the Axis forces. Operation Overlord is not the start of the war for U.S. forces as you like to claim it to be.
