Hey Sebby can you please make a video about credit repair agencies. I really need to understand the benefit of using them to rebuild my credit and how it impacts my credit history. Thanks
@hornets065 жыл бұрын
farfouroune if you haven’t gone to college and haven’t taken out student loans, I would look into it. I went to go school because my work was paying for it and then I took out student loans to pay off my credit cards and essentially consolidated them at a much lower interest rate. I was then able to attack the debt much easier. Keeping in mind that student loans are with you forever, meaning you can’t declare bankruptcy on it (normally).

I am up to 4 cards, USAA AMEX, Cap1 Platinum, Cap1 QS1, and just got Chase Freedom Unlimited. Was always taught credit cards were terrible. Glad I found your channel. Also, for any military (AD, guard, retired, or seperated) out there, use your SCRA benefits. I know AMEX, Cap1, and Chase will wave their annual fees on all of their cards through SCRA. Another benefit of the SCRA is no late fees, and a 4% APR. I am pretty new to all of this and currently rebuilding my wife's and my credit. Thanks for all of the info!

I started with a 580 score 7 months ago, and got a Capital One Secured with a $200 limit. They bumped it up to $500 2 months ago. This week I received a Chase Freedom Unlimited with a $1000 limit. My score is at 660 now. What should I go for next and how soon? Credit Karma's top suggestions for me in order are low number of accounts, lack of history, and low total available credit.
@Drak9765 жыл бұрын
He has a video about that that I haven't seen yet but I think 5 cards per 24 months or some such? Maybe one with different rewards categories then your Chase Freedom one? Some people on reddit for some reason like to get 3 different chase cards as their "trifecta" they all talk about I'm not sure why though I'm too new to the credit game with my little babby card in the mail lol.
@JosephWheeler145 жыл бұрын
Special EDy it depends on your expenses and what your goals are. If you want to travel I would say wait until your score is at least 700 and go for the sapphire preferred. But if you want the most cash back you could go for the citi double cash to cover the categories the freedom doesn’t.

I had a two-card foundation until somewhat recently. (I don’t count my original student card, which I still have but don’t use.) The original two were Amex BCP and Chase Freedom (I got the Freedom with a Chase checking account). They served me well for several years with no new applications until CSR in Fall 2016 (100k bonus). That’s the card that got me more into cards. Decided I don’t like the rotating categories for Freedom, so I changed that to FU. Newest card is United MPE, currently hitting minimum spend. Next one will be IHG. I think a good base in a general sense is: 1. A cashback card for necessities like gas and groceries, such as Blue Cash Preferred.2. A card for non-categorized spend that earns better than 1%. Citi Double Cash or Chase FU depending on your goals. 3. A travel card with no FX and transfer partners, like CSR, CSP. 4. A hotel keeper card like IHG or Hyatt5. (Higher level game) A perks card like Amex Platinum, Hilton Aspire, etc.

Hello Sebastian, I recently got into the credit card world. Last year during the month of November I had a credit score of 648 and only one credit card!(Capital One). After watching some of your informative videos, I decided to apply for Chase Freedom unlimited and Discover in January of 2018, now my credit score is 751 and next month I’m thinking about signing up for Chase Freedom and Chase Reserve. Thanks for all your info! :)

Right before I started applying for cards, I was an AU on my dad’s blue cash everyday card, capital one quicksilver, & capital one platinum. I was also an AU on my mom’s Citi thank you preferred (she recently product-changed to the double cash card). Soon after, I applied for a capital one secured card & got a $200cl w/ refundable deposit. I then applied for a secured Discover it card & got a $300cl w/ deposit. A few months past and I applied for the capital one journey card because I was a student then and got my first unsecured card w/ $500cl. My credit score during those years fluctuated between high 500s to low 600s as I had very high utilization, although I never missed a payment. Fast forward to 4 years and I now have better income and started to be more financially responsible. My secured cap 1 is now a platinum MasterCard w/ $750cl. My secured Discover is now an unsecured $500cl, & my cap 1 journey has a 1k cl. My credit score has been slowly but steadily increasing and currently at 675. I recently applied online for my 4th card: the Chase Sapphire Reserve w/ no prior relationship with them and got instantly approved for 10.5k cl. Annual income @105k & monthly rent @$2525 (They’ll ask you for these and may require proof). Since I just got my CSR card, I’m gonna wait a few months when my score reaches 700s then apply for my 5th card maybe an Amex or a chase freedom to supplement my CSR. Good luck to all, and you’re on a good path just by being here and watching these helpful videos!

I knew nothing about how credit cards worked back when I started, just basic stuff like credit utilization. So I had the Amex Everyday and the BofA Cash Rewards card for about a year and a half, then picked up the Hilton Surpass and CSP before actually looking into maximizing value. I didn't know about 5/24 until it was too late. So I decided to just keep going and getting the keeper cards I wanted. I'm at 17 credit cards now and don't have the Freedom or Unlimited. Will downgrade the CSP to a freedom at some point. If I were to redo, I'd get the Discover IT first, then an Amex Blue cash, followed by Freedom and Marriott. Then a CSP to top it off and downgrade it to an Unlimited.

A month ago I had two cards and didn't want any more! I paid off my oldest card (13 years) and almost closed it - thank GOD I ran into your channel. I now have Chase Freedom, Capital One Quicksilver, Citi Double Cash, and Discover it (I don't travel). I have to slow it down because I'm shopping for a home loan. I'm still learning how to play the game with earning rewards and cash back. One question I can't find the answer to is: When is the best time to make NEW charges? I think it's between the closing date and the due date, but I'm not sure.
@AskSebby6 жыл бұрын
a) Make sure to stop apps 6-12 months before shopping for a home loan. b) Probably after the previous statement/closing date.
@minjonjones85486 жыл бұрын
Got it! Thank you. By the way, my score went from 700 (not caring, not trying, not informed) to 780 in 2 months after finding your channel. I no longer carry a balance on any of my cards, I only charge what I can pay back before the statement closing date, I keep my utilization no higher than 2%, and use my cards based on which one gives me the best reward. I created an Excel spreadsheet (which I uploaded to my phone) to keep track of the whole kit and kaboodle while I'm away from home. You've changed my life!!

My last card to complete 5/24 I haven't quite narrowed it down, but I think it was be a Chase hotel card.

I's starting my five card base after holding a BofA card for about 12 years. I decided to product change to the BofA cash back card because why not and I had assets at the bank that pushed its rewards beyond 3%. I then applied for and got the Citi Double Cash and the Wels Fargo Propel. I'm going to keep these cards for about a year or two and then apply for the Chase Freedom and possibly the sapphire. From there I'll see about a Chase Tri-fecta or breaking to AMEX for a long game run.

My experience with CapitalOne secured card was really great. Always recommend it. Started off with a 200 deposit for a 351 line that in 6 mo turned into 651, and only 2 more months got a normal 1.5% cash back with 1000. All cards no foreign fees, which is a deal maker for me.
@ericwilliams3986 жыл бұрын
Great videos you do here Sebby, very informative. I have learned much of what you teach the hard way, after racking up massive debt in my 30’s and nearly ending it all. Things are finally better now almost a decade later, went from a 462 score to having a new car, mortgage, and 3 cards in 18 months. I think you have talked about the elusive 850 score, I just want to say for someone starting out, forget about that, 760 or so is plenty good, and you will be lucky to ever achieve 810+. For the young people out there, or the ones who messed up real bad like me, the length of accounts takes time, and is beyond your control. Never, ever toss your oldest card. Everything else, mainly low balances & not missing payments, is very easy yet so important! Pay those utility bills and CC minimums, ALWAYS!
@ericwilliams3986 жыл бұрын
Just to add, should you ever screw up big like a bankruptcy, and get all your cards taken away, get a secured card ASAP to have that higher age of accounts down the line. I lived off cash for a while, took me 2 years just to get a bank account, but had I known about secured cards I would have applied much earlier. Thankfully, age of accounts doesn’t matter too much, I have 700 now with 45% utilization, and my oldest card is 3.5 years. So as I stated, 760+ is very easy to achieve within 3-4 years, as long as there are zero negatives such as collections on your report

I would rather build something like 1) Capital 1 Secured --> 2) Freedom / Freedom Unlimited 3) CSP or Chase Sapphire Classic (without AF) 4) AmEx Hilton HHonors (without AF) 5) Additional Freedom or Freedom Unlimited. / or AmEx Gold (first year - no AF, second - $195). First, one C1 Secured gives access to build the credit with at least $50. Yes, it's dead collateral, since you won't be able to upgrade it further, but it makes sense more. With having Freedom it's pretty much great card for everything, especially during Q1 2018 - it has Apple Pay/Samsung Pay, which means each physical transaction generates 5% cashback. I believe, next quarter Q2- will be grocery stores so it would generate insanely great amount of cashback/points. CSP - not required any additional words. Another thing to consider - it could be a wiser idea for somebody to get, for instance, a chase Freedom Unlimited while having Freedom and upgrade FU to Chase Sapphire Classic (it still exists but only available for current Chase member during upgrade or convert). AmEx Hilton has a nice signup bonus (travelling requires not only tickets, but a place to rest as well). It could be a wise idea to get AmEx gold as well to convert AmEx point to Hilton Points - redemption rate is nice - 1 by 2. IMHO - Discover is great, but Chase & AmEx have way more to offer, especially when combining Chase points for travel partners thru Saphire and using AmEx point for Hilton Hotels.

I got my first card ever about seven months ago, the Discover IT student card. Since then, I’ve added the Chase Freedom, AMEX BCE, Capital One Journey for students, Citi ThankYou Preferred for students, and BOA CashRewards for students, in that order. I also recently got approved for a weird no annual fee card called the Deserve edu card, only because it pays for one year of amazon prime for students and has no fee. I’m obviously going for more than a 5 card base. I’m 20, I’m a student, and I want to age as may no annual fee cards with me as possible. Most of my cards get cash back or points, and I’ve managed to meet minimum spend on all of them for the welcome bonuses (if applicable) by staggering applications. No more chase cards for me for about 2 years, but my base is seven cards strong after seven months of having a credit history. I’m excited to see how my AAA ages with me and affects my score in the future! I knew nothing about credit before Sebby, and my score is above 700 for all bureaus. I’m so grateful for this information.

Hi Sebby, I've been binge watching alot of your videos today. I just recently came to the realization that it would be so useful if i had more than one credit card. I am 27 yo, and I've had the same credit card for 3 years now (Visa Signature Prime rewards Card by CHASE). Only reason i waited until the age of 24 to get my first credit card is my mother has extremely bad credit. I told myself that i would never put myself in a compromising position, so i have always been hesitant about having an abundance of credit. I'm just now realizing how important it is, and how behind I am compared to everyone else. No idea what my credit score is, but one thing i can say is I've been on time with all my payments for the past 3 years. I have literally never missed a single payment, and I know for a fact that I'm ready for my second credit card. In general, it's obvious i need to spend ALOT more time on your videos because I'm so clueless when it comes to so many things involving finances. That being said, can you please recommend me a second credit card? Based on the information I've gathered from a few of your videos, the Citi Double Cash Card OR Chase Freedom card would be a great second card. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? If you disagree, can you kindly point me in the right direction? Sorry If my comment is a bother in any way, I just feel like i shouldn't jump the gun without first consulting with someone.

If I had to start again...chase freedom, discover it, nusenda platinum cash rewards, vantage west connect regards (I think the latter two may be a bit restrictive if you have too many cards so probably best to nab them early on), and I guess sapphire preferred for #5: since no AF in year 1, get it for the sign up bonus. You can always downgrade it to the freedom unlimited in year 2 if you're not gonna travel soon, then later, once you are traveling, open another CSP and get the sign up bonus again. If you sit on those points, that's 100k UR points plus whatever you earn on the freedoms in that time. Is the chase 2 years between bonuses thing apply to 2 years between account openings, or does the product change/account closing reset the clock? I'd also consider the us bank cash+ as a sub for one of the 5, or as a 6th.

Question my credit is good and I definitely want it to be excellent so I can move out this that. Currently I have 3 and I want for but I just applied for a card. What’s your thoughts on that?

Sebby, will you please make a video on purely installment loans? Aka a great credit union savings secured loan credit builder? I think there is a lack of information on this on youtube. Aka a good credit mix of 1 installment account for every 3-5 revolving account tradelines.

My credit score is currently at 713 with 3 recent credit cards (Capital One Platinum, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Freedom) and 1 ancient authorized user (Amex) and my next most logical choice should be the CSR, but I don’t know what score I should hit before considering applying. Also, since I’m only at 3/24, I was thinking of getting one more keeper card before ultimately applying for the CSR. Should I focus on a Citi DC, Amex BCE, a keeper reward card, or a keeper hotel night card? Thanks!
I just jumped head first into the world of credit with the Capital One Platinum card-should arrive in a few days. Afterward I'm debating on either a travel airlines card like United or Delta, or the SPG card, or the Venture card, but that's only after I get my new car-I've heard getting a new credit card before a new car is a no no. Plus I wanna build my credit with this card first.

Thanks for another great video Seb! This is more or less how I had planned to build my starter cards as well. Quick question though, you mentioned you would recommend upgrading the Chase Freedom to a CSR if you wanted to travel.. but wouldn’t that make me ineligible for the sign up bonus for the CSR? Thanks again.

Assuming you already got the CSP bonus due to the One Sapphire Rule. In most cases, grab the CSP/CSR bonus first.

Hey Sebby; great information, appreciate your time. Is the chase slate effected by 5/24 ?
Thanks so much for your videos Sebby. You give great, sound advice on credit. I’ve been looking at the CSP and CSR. I graduated about a month ago from the Discover IT with a $1800 credit limit and now have a 784 FICO. I just really don’t like the idea of an annual fee long term as I don’t travel a ton. I understand the downgrade options, but I’m curious, how do you feel about the ethics of it? I know it’s legal, but I almost feel like one abusing the system by signing up for a card for the bonus with no intention of keeping it long term. Also, if I downgrade and have some CUR points left, and then upgrade again later like you mentioned, do you keep all your previous points?

Sebby, I need some advice. I am immigrating my fiance and her 19 year old son to the US and they have ZERO credit and no debt. I want to help build their credit and was wondering what cards they should get. I have a credit score around 811 and have the CSR, Chase Freedom, IHG, Capital One, Discover and AE cards. I only pay an annual fee for the CSR and the IHG. I am willing to co-sign my fiance and her son for a $1,000 limit each, but want to start building their credit. What card or cards do you suggest for them to apply on their own with Zero credit or with my help???
@AskSebby6 жыл бұрын
Add them as AU to a card like the Capital One. Have them apply for a non-Chase starter card after (i.e., Discover It) since Chase ignores AU history AFAIK. After 6-12 months of independent history, start on Chase 5/24 cards.

I have a generic platinum card from my bank and a rewards card, both no annual fees. Am considering an Amex card like the British Airways or Everyday cashback, and maybe the Amazon master card as I shop on Amazon a lot but it has a lot of bad reviews, so I'm still unsure

Great advice! I have a rarely used BofA card, that's almost 30 years old. If I dump it will there be a big hit to my credit score. I have 3 others with an average age of 6 years.

I'm at 4 of my current 5 card foundation. I have one card with my credit union, my costco citi card, and I just got approved for my amex BCE and discover it cards. Still trying to figure out the last card to go with. I know the next one will put me at the 5/24 rule until the beginning of 2019 but I'm thinking the Freedom may be a good bet.

Total credit noob. I understand most things, but i need one thing cleared up about utilization. Say my credit limit is 200 and i max it out, but i pre-pay 199 before the closing statement, would that be ok and would that count as a low utilization? or would they see that i maxes out the card and paid it down? My goal is to rebuild credit after 2 late payments and a repo.
@AskSebby6 жыл бұрын
Low utilization = better. Utilization is (typically) based off statements. Pre-pay = good in this case: www.asksebby.com/blog/how-to-increase-your-credit-score-by-pre-paying-your-credit-cards
@tavo.simracing6 жыл бұрын
Ask Sebby Thanks for the reply! So would the credit company see that i’m maxing my card out though and would that negatively impact my credit score even if i’m pre-paying? After some research i’ve dug up some info that maxing out and pre-paying should only be done on credit cards where you can increase your credit limit. Would you agree with that? Sorry for all the newb questions. i’m really digging your content. i’ve watched a ton of different credit guru you tubers all with conflicting ideas about how to go about building credit or rebuilding in my case, but i find your content to be the most consistent and make the most sense.

I didn't really start with much of an idea of how to truly maximize your potential gains and perks in terms of Credit Cards. My parents were completely overboard with credit card use and so I was always very skeptical. However I started building myself up and I'm currently at 4 and making the decision of what card will fill that 5th spot. 1. Capital One QUICKSILVER (Hoping to up this card to a Venture sometime within 2018 ) 2. Discover It. 3. Citi Double Cash 4. Chase Freedom. I'm really debating if I'm going to try for an AMEX or double up with Chase for that 5 spot

If I were to start again this would be my starting 7 for first 2 years. Not too many with fees and downgrade options. 1. Discover it - easiest to get but very versatile with category and double cash back in 1st year. 2. Chase Freedom - same as above after you build up credit with it. Also good relation build card with Chase. 3. Amex Blue Everyday Cash - grocery, build up relationship with Amex. 4. Chase Freedom Unlimited 5. Chase Ink Preferred - 80k UR. If you can get one 6. Chase Sapphire Preferred - easy 55K UR with AU and no AF first year. 7. IHG - very good hotel card with low AF. On #6. I feel after Chase ink preferred there are better dining options that pays 3%+ dining without fees. I might swap Uber or better dining card. BUT that 55k UR point is hard to pass by, maybe downgrade after first year to FU and work on Amex side afterwards.

I currently have Capital One Journey, and Chase Freedom. I have established credit and have enough of a time gap to do a 5/24 starter base.
