I'm amazed by the number of people here who are saying they don't have enough money to do anything. From the very beginning, City Prepper has preached doing whatever you can, a little at a time. If you don't do anything because you "can't afford it," then you will never do anything, and you will never be able to afford it. No matter what your situation is, you can find ways to save a few bucks. Do you eat out a lot? Buy prepared food / meals? Buy one cup of Starbucks' finest per week? The list is endless. The longer you sit feeling sorry for yourself, the longer it will be before anything changes. You won't be buying a bugout vehicle next week. But most of us will never have a bugout vehicle. But we can do something.

Living in the forest of Northern Michigan, I have limited ways of growing my own food. I grow tomatoes every year successfully. I planted two standard sized Jonathan apple trees twenty years ago. I discovered how to grow potatoes last year. Having lived here all of my life has advantages too. I know where the oak trees drop acorns. I know where large bushes of blackberries grow. I know where the cattails grow along the AuSable River. If things got really bad, I could live here like the Chippewa did hundreds of years ago.

If you want to grow a large enough food garden to feed your family and to feed a small flock of hens, look for a few acres of existing farm land that either gets good rainfall or already has a productive well. Do not buy land that has poor soil or that needs frequent irrigation. It takes years and a lot of effort to build up poor soil. And buying water is expensive. Buy land with good soil in the first place and enough rainfall or its own water well. And avoid mountain land because the higher the elevation the colder it will be in autumn, winter and spring and the shorter the growing season will be. You do not want to invest in building a heated greenhouse to extend the growing season long enough for vegetable plants to produce a crop. Most of the privately owned land in the South West is better suited for ranching than farming. Most of that land either has poor soil or needs irrigation to produce food crops. Look for farmland in the Central or South East U.S. if you want rich farm soil and plenty of rainfall or few legal obstructions to digging your own water well. There are good geographic reasons for Kansas producing wheat crops, Illinois producing corn crops and Georgia producing peanut crops and peach crops. Look for land in a region with a proven track record of productive farms and where land prices are a lot less than in California.

My advice if you want it is never bug out always bug in. Prepare your land for war and farming. Never leave everything you've spent your life on behind. Stand your ground. Be better at defending than they are at invading. You have homebase advantage if you do enough in advance you can hold off hoard of armed people. But it takes money and work and many hours of thinking and research. In the end you could still die fighting but you die fighting at home with your dignity. Not running like a coward in some street somewhere.

I have to agree with Sheila Hart. Always have something in reserve. If you retreat you can always regroup and take back what is yours. Last if you must leave, leave them nothing of value.

I live in Utah and we have many people moving here from CA. I think we need a sign at the border entrance that says “welcome to Utah, please leave your crazy, leftist politics that ruined your state behind.” Seriously, be reasonable enough to recognize you are fleeing a leftist state for the security a conservative state provides. Don’t get here and start voting for the same types of people who ran your state in the ground.
@izegrimcreations
@izegrimcreations 3 жыл бұрын
@@savetherepublic9233 Security of a conservative state? You do realize that conservative states almost always rank lowest for quality of life, education, healthcare, and crime per capita, right? These things are tracked. If conservative states were all that great, then stop taking money from blue states. California contributes $30 billion MORE in federal taxes than they get back, while Kentucky TAKES $30 billion more in taxes than they give. And it's red states that are suffering the worst with COVID deaths per capita. I wouldn't call that "security". Quite the opposite. Methinks it's time you get out of your echo chamber and start looking at objective measurable facts.
@savetherepublic9233
@savetherepublic9233 3 жыл бұрын
@@izegrimcreations that’s funny, you telling me to get out of an echo chamber. CA is literally so mismanaged they are asking the feds for a bailout right now. Where I live BLM still means Bureau of Land Management and no they don’t riot and burn down cities like all you BLM friends in Commifornia. Me thinks if you like it so much than you should stay there and enjoy the smell of homelessness and drugs. I’ll make a deal with you, you stay there and I won’t ever vacation in your state ever again. 🤜🤛
@izegrimcreations
@izegrimcreations 3 жыл бұрын
@@savetherepublic9233 One, I don't live in California. But I know how to look at objective facts and sources. Something you seem unable to do. Again, your echo chamber; you should leave it. for example, BLM hasn't burned down any cities. You're buying the right wing kool aid and ignoring actual facts. There was one building in Portland, over the course of the past 6 months, that had a fire set in it. It didn't burn down, let alone the city. The protests are all in a 2 block radius. Do you know how many blocks there are in a city? A lot more than 2. And last I checked, it wasn't leftists who have been arrested for killing cops, bomb plots, and plots to kidnap governors. All of those just in the past 6 months, and all by right wing extremists. Secondly, what aid has California asked for? For wildfires? Guess what, the overwhelming majority of forest fires were on federal land. That means nothing to do with California mis-management, but a federal responsibility. Do you mean COVID assistance? Literally every state is asking for that. Not just California. All you're doing is proving my point: how education in conservative run states is woefully lacking, judging by your aversion to facts and insistence on repeating debunked right wing myths.

Some advice from a guy who was born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley: i would not recommend buying your bugout place in the Mountains because of the dangers of forest fires, plus the shortened growing season, not to mention the difficulty of getting there during winter storms. Instead, I'd seek a place in the lower deserts where the growing season is practically year round and there's precious little to burn. Water would be your biggest challenge. Another benefit would be the greater solar potential, allowing you to live off the electric grid. Aside from these benefits, there are desert areas that are sparsely populated, which id find attractive in a SHTF situation. Lastly, access to a desert bugout would definitely be easier via your proposed off-road vehicle. Oh, and your heating needs during the winter would be greatly reduced. One more thing: I love citrus --- oranges, grapefruits and lemons. The deserts are ideal for these fruits. I wish you great success, from one Socal to another!

Bro, you need to rethink that strategy. the desert especially the low desert is a harsh place. I have lived in it since 1962 . It gets so hot that even with all the water in the world it will not keep your garden form being burnt off the surface of the earth. Same with any sapien. It will also stall a garden just like any frost. But unlike a frost it take weeks to get through a heat pulse. There are other things so the desert unless you are tuned over many years is far too big a challenge.

Now I see a major downfall within the preparedness community is how quick most are to not help others for fear of others knowing what you have or running out of supplies. Letting self preservation take over. My neighbors and us shared food from our gardens and bartered other goods. We all grew a little closer and felt good about ourselves. I think we all need to remember more than likely we will have to survive together and would you be okay with yourself if you knew you could help someone and didn't.

Not every crop grows in every garden. Keep trying and you will find crops and species that are best suited to your soil, water ph, sun, and temperature. Then you start fighting off the critters who want to share in your success. I do my last harvest and remove all the netting and barriers for the wildlife to fill their bellies with an autumn thanksgiving meal. I am giving thanks for them being patient and waiting for the animal harvest.

Good 5 tips! Have also been studying Kiyosaki and took his advice... bought an investment property as my bug-out 'camp'. It's a cottage near the beach, 100 miles from the city, that I can rent weekly if I want. I live up in the hills so unless disaster strikes the entire region I have either option to retreat to. And BTW in the last year the value of both properties have gone up quite a bit. My advice is to try and think about combining prepping and investing, so if one doesn't work out the money/effort isn't wasted. Great video, looking forward to more!

@@CityPrepping I highly suggest trying to find someone who owns horses or something. I know from personal experience horse manure is incredibly good for the garden and with 6 horses we have more than we could ever use and often give it away to anyone who will take it. I assume anyone else who owns horses has more manure than they know what to do with, let it sit in your garden for a season and rotate what parts of your garden you use each year as to not deplete the nutrients and you’ll have tomatoes bigger than their cages (my tomato plants all grew too big for cages, will have to build my own cages for next year). Although where I live it snows most of the year so we do a lot of gardening during the season.

I'm probably going to upset people, but I believe buying a 'bug out' location is a foolish thing to do. is your BO located where other people live, even if spread out? Are you buying bare land or an old shack? Either way, if you build/rebuild, the locals will know something is going on an look at what you're doing. Are you a weekend fixer? They have the entire week to check out your place and what you're doing. Then they'll talk at the ole' Hillbilly Wateringhole over beers. Then more people know something is going on at old man Williard's homestead. Some city slicker putting on new roof, solar panels, generator, propane tank, etc, etc. Fixin' it up realllll nice! Then SHTF. You drive 1-2 hrs to your BO, only to find it is occupied by someone who enjoyed you fixin it up, fillin it up with dry food, water, ammo. WHAT are you going to do? SHOOT your way in with your wife/kids in the family truckster? You gonna call the cops? They'll have other things to deal with than some house broken into. Just my opinion. Like to hear yours. I don't care if you have cameras, security system.

The word is you are correct on your assessment of the real estate market. So many have said that it has to go down, as there will be too many defaults. We are talking about millions of people losing their homes. That housing prices will be in half-depending on where you live. Many people are selling now and waiting for this-those who have money. For others, they will not be able to get loans as they lost their jobs. Already some smaller banks are folding. It is a mess, and next year will be a duzy.

You are right about gardening - rewarding but takes time to learn. We had a drought this year to impacted my "crops". Am trying hydroponics this winter (New England, Kratky method) - very happy so far. Give it a try. Good for teaching kids as well. Also, re health, my partner is a "pescatarian". She has taught me to move down the food chain for food selection - more veggies/fish, skip the meat. Result = I am down 20lb, blood pressure down as well. And lots of physical exercise- not just the gym type either. In my area, wood splitting, field mowing, hiking, etc. are all common pastimes. I am almost 70 now, able to hike mountains like they are sidewalks, and am in better physical shape than 20 yrs ago; very happy with these choices. Hope this adds to the conversation.

I'd be reluctant to pay for soil although I guess it depends on how big your garden is. First thing I'd do is look at the recycling /trash and compost as much as possible. Apologies for the late comment. I didn’t get to view this video immediately and I know you spend a few hours after the video to view and respond to comments. I do like how you’re mentioning investing for your future. Not only do not enough preppers do that, but not enough people do that in general. As such, maybe this advice will help some people. If you want to invest do the following: 1. Get out of consumer debt and have at least 6 months of household expenses in savings. As I mentioned before, your world may not fall apart instantly. The rent, mortgage, and car payments may still come due before shtf for you. And don’t forget to pay off any student loans ASAP. 2. Maximize your tax advantaged investment vehicles first. This could be IRAs, 401ks, etc. If you have kids, put some into a 529 for college. If you’ve done all this, consider going back to maybe an HSA or taxable brokerage account. You can invest in a business that you work at and operate, but make sure you have your debt paid off and your cash savings first. In addition, make sure the business is profitable before you quit your day job. 3. While doing all this, make sure you have the proper insurance in place. If you’re alive, you need health insurance. If you’re working, you need disability insurance. If you have someone who depends on your income or household services, you need life insurance. If you have a car and/or home, you need property and casualty insurance in addition to the liability insurance. If you have wealth, you may need additional liability insurance. If you have a business, you may need liability insurance particular to that business. It can be single event that destroys everything you’ve worked for financially, so get the insurance. In terms of investment property, I’d personally pay cash for it and not add additional liabilities to my life. I also wouldn’t be a long distance landlord. Finally, even if you hire a manager, they won’t take care of the management as you would. Being a landlord is work and property comes with expenses. Since I do taxes, I can tell you it takes a long time to actually make money on many rentals. If you want real estate investment, first look at how much your current home represents in your total wealth. Perhaps consider a reit if you can’t pay cash for a rental property. This is a long comment. Maybe someone will find it helpful.

When the preps run out, you'll need to have been gardening already. I had let my garden get weedy and overgrown and it taught me a BIG lesson today. I had to pull weeds off my 'weed barrier' landscape fabric. There was big grass bunches, and thorny horse nettle grown up among the grass bunches, and a different kind of runner grass woven through it all at ground level. No amount of glove would protect from the thorns so I could pull, so I had to 'part the hair' of the grass to first pull out the horse nettle, then I had to rip out and un-weave the low runners from among the grass. THEN and only then could I pull and struggle and twist the big grass bunch out of the ground, and the weed barrier fabric actually made it harder to pull up, because of the huge root mass underneath that wouldn't pull up through the fabric. After clearing only a dozen planting holes, I felt dizzy and sick from the heat and called my son to get the weed-eater to chew down the jungle. That wasn't enough. So I had to call my other son over with his commercial mower to take it down short, then weed eat. FUEL and TOOLS and strong young men are a precious resource! A 'prepper' with a shiny new unopened can of Survival Seeds has a terrible, terrible task ahead of them. If you don't garden already, you have no idea how hard it can be. Start now and learn before you starve.

@@CityPrepping you’re welcome! I remember in a number of your videos you spoke about gardening and the importance of learning skills now. My wife and I have had a garden for years and it is not easy. Have you explored growing sprouts and using sprouting seeds as part of your bug out/preparedness? This can be done quite easily from inside your home during winter months. We live in Canada for what it’s worth. I am referring to the sprouts such as “mumms sprouting seeds”. Things such as mung beans.

Agree with you on most things. Things I have learned: herbs and essential oils learn how to use for alternative options for meds. Learn about eating raw or vegan, will get rid of lots of medical problems including high blood pressure, diabetes type two, migraines etc . It’s harder for type O blood people. Exercise: do Tai chi if you have injury. Economics: it will take 18 months for housing market to shift in a bad way. Buy things now you really need food, non-food items, things to help you be self sufficient. Personally I’ve made a list of 30-60 meals with recipes and list of ingredients. Off of that I’ve made shopping lists then I added up all ingredients and that’s what I base my food storage on and what I plant in my garden. I keep a journal for my garden and one for storage which includes inventory. We compost for our soil and we use free pallets for bins. I also order garden things in winter and I garden in winter. We also have a rain water system to water our gardens and have a berky to filter and purify with extra filters. We got rain barrels food grade for $10 each. We get free firewood off local ads like Craigslist. One last comment on your garden soil checkout weidler method and do their fertilizer with organic ingredients instead of replacing all your soil

I think you have the most informative channel when it comes to prepping and the extraneous issues that come with it. As for being in California, family comes first as you stated but there is also a value attached to familiarity.

@@cynthialewis4313 I just grew some peppers in a raised bed planters box. It was from seeds from the peppers I bought in a store-mini ones. Since I planted a few seeds to see what takes, I will have to figure out what I have. See if you can take seeds from vegetables. Also, basil herb grows very well. Let it go to seed, take the seeds, and grow again.

Seeds aren't crazy, they just aren't cool like guns, bug out bags, bunkers or most other gear really. I'd just take pride in the fact you're prepping to thrive, not just survive. Besides botany can be hard to learn depending where you live

Good advice. The next thing I have planned is buying a house in 2021. It will be in the country if I can find one in my price range. If not it will be in the city I live now. Crime is low with a population of about 40,000. I live in an apartment now so moving into a house in either location is better. I started prepping over four years ago when layoffs at the place I work happened. Now everything is going good at work. I wasn't included in the layoffs that happened except for a three month one from you know what where everyone was called back. I also got dental work done I was putting off and started exercising.

Note that body weight charts are just rough guides, there's much variation, when I was fit way back I was about 40lbs overweight according to their charts, but even doc said the charts were not really that great for someone with my size and bones. I tried going down to what was suggested but made me sick, weak as hell. aerobic fitness, stamina, is the key. but as always, like anything in life, not to excess. here we don't use cars much so, plain old walking, carrying lots of groceries every day for our large extended family was great natural fitness plan, plus walking dog for miles, martial arts, and light/medium weight training Sorry to hear of you having arthritis, that sucks :( lost my health to a viral infection reaction, long before Covid came around with much same effects, it sucks :(

Same here - I'm 20+ lbs more than the weight chart recommendation. I'm fit, so every time I ask the doctor if I should lose weight he says no need to worry about that. I get the feeling that doctors don't take those chart seriously, unless maybe for a person that would medically benefit from less weight.

@Cecil B Demented you can’t take extra time watching videos on KZbin for learning a new skill/hobby? Doesn’t usually take tons of money to start things. That new skill can turn into side money. I learned to make wines ten years ago all from KZbin and all that took was getting some free one gallon jugs, and maybe $5 for some wine yeast. Made a diy airlock for it as well, so I didn’t even have to spend money on that. Now I may or may not sell wine to family and friends on the side and make decent cash doing so, as I can make wines you can’t find in stores and people go crazy for. Again, I may or may not do this for cash 😉. So please don’t make excuses about who can and can’t “afford” to do anything. If you have time to watch KZbin, you have time and drive to do something, and can find ways to make it inexpensive.

City Prepper, I also have health problems that limit how much/what kind of exercise I can do. The Glider simulates cross-country skiing. It's low impact, which saves the knees and hips. It keeps me moving, and that's important. I put mine in front of the TV and told myself that I'd have to move if I wanted to watch TV. I tried for a 20-minute mile but then got faster. The weight started coming off. Get a Glider!

I'm working on the garden one now, I bought grow lights to grow plants indoors during the winter months and am working on fortifying the soil around my house, its mostly clay, I bought a shredder to put carbon into the soil with kitchen scraps and grass cuttings, I'm also using a mortar to crush eggs shells down to dust for calcium, I've been at it for about 6 months and I'm already starting to notice the soils getting better, its turning darker and doesn't clump together as much and I'm starting to see more and more worms in the 5 compost pits I've made. work the soil its your foundation, the beautiful part about it is that you can get all the ingredients you need for free to improve the soil quality if you just talk to the right people, I deal with a mom and pop coffee shop that gives me about 15 pounds of coffee grounds and kitchen scraps a week. looking on dealing with other places to get more.
