@@scoompaloompa but the series does explain more details about them specifally that they dont actually use technology just there natural abilitys of maniplating space gravity and time. effetivly the photino birds are simply dark matter life forms who are unbound by the laws of time simply put you cant kill them because a previous version of them would replace them you cant stop them becauses they exist everywhere and at everytime at once. which explains why they are nearly unstopable the issue is HOW they even as indivuials someone exist everywhere at once if you kill a photino bird with blackhole gravity it SHOULD by all laws of physics and consciouness be dead but no it will repeat instantly from a younger version of itself with all the memories of the one you killed. effiectivly the photinos birds are like lovecraftian versions of phoneixs which is probably why the author called then photino BIRDS despite not really looking like birds. the only two sci fi weapons ive seen capable of defeating them is the stellaris gigastructures temporal erasure gun basically a solar system sized warship with a energy weapon that if it makes contact will spread across all timelines and erasure the target from ALL of them even the photinos couldnt escape it of course youd then have to track down and kill each indvidual photio bird with it. and then theres classic conceptual erasure basically reality warpering weapons like the infinity gaunlet that let you alter fundemtal parts of reality in which you could just say for instance "any photino bird naturally collapses into a blackhole" etc etc

I love that two of Baxter's races made it on the list. I first found him through the anthology Vacuum Diagrams and I've been collecting (most) of his books ever since. I'm not crazy about everything he's written, but the really hard, really large-scale scifi he writes blows my mind. I think my favorite novel of his is Flux, which takes place within the interior of a neutron star (it's part of the Xelee series of stories). At one point, someone remarks that, in ancient times, when humanity was powerful, the greatest city was huge: one centimeter across!
@lamvuong53434 жыл бұрын
But the unit used by the human inhabitants in the neutron star is mansheight , isn’t it ?? Does the novel have any explanation how they are able to survive within the harsh environment of a neutron star?
@synthetic2404 жыл бұрын
@@lamvuong5343 True, it was man-height, but some knew a conversion, apparently. The reason they could survive is because the first colonists were uploaded human minds inside some sort of artificial clump of similar material (neutronium of some flavor). They just saw the world and everything in it through a human mind-set, if you will, so that they appeared to have a human body-plan and the super-fluid neutrons appeared clear as air. The truth of their procreation was probably a bit different to be sure. They probably have a human-like body-plan; a head, torso, limbs; but their actual perception is a illusion built into each of their hardware. I don't recall if the "animals" and "plants" were something ancient humans designed and colonized the star with or if they were always there.

Plus at one point in their history they decided to remove magic from the universe and create psionics instead as they found it more stable and appealing . That's some God tier feats.
@gallifreyandefense3 жыл бұрын
@@christopherpackham732 and the crazy thing is how low ball those feats you mentioned are. Those are already so powerful and they are not even that high up. They actually reordered the cosmos into an infinite multiverse with separate universes unlike before, and then removed magic from that infinite multiverse (not just universe), and like you said created psionics. The key note here is that Rassilon did not rewrite the laws of physics. He wrote them in the first place. He created causality, logic, math, physics, and concepts as well. This wasn't simple matter manipulation, this was straight up reality warping, and changing the very nature of their multiverse. They created the infinite time vortex which touched every part of the Omniverse. The DW multiverse is only one of the multiverses in the omniverse. We know that the Time Vortex touched every part of the omniverse because the lampreys live in the Spiral and consider entire infinite multiverses as meals. They eat these multiverses completely or down to finite numbers. Like when Monica Lamprey ate infinite universes down to 18. They call the omniverse their restaurant. The Time Lords also limit themselves. They choose material bodies to watch over the Web of Time, choosing to live in it than above it. Time Lords don't actually live wholly in their body. They exist as a consciousness form outside of nspace, and cannot be killed completely by body damage. As seen when the master is brought back even though he didn't regenerate. But the process was interrupted. The Time Lords also can learn Quantum Mnemonics, the language of The Great Old Ones, which can rewrite universes, or create and destroy them, with words alone. The Word Lords, another version of the Time Lords from another universe learned and mastered quantum mnemonics. The Time Lords keep the secret to its pure form in The Matrix. Their database. So they literally just have it chilling and decided not to learn it. It is apparently similar to Block Computation Transfer, which is what they and the Daleks use to build things. Block Computation Transfer is basically making physical things out of math, and hacking the universe for free stuff and endless resources. But Quantum Mnemonics is changing reality with your words. The Transduction Barrier can take the force of 500,000 Chronovores before falling, each of which can consume dozens of universes easily and much more potentially. It anchors them to reality, makes them acausal, and protects them from antitime, all forms of matter and energy attack and many other things. Only a being such as the Carnival Queen could pass the Transduction Barrier. Though she did not overwhelm it and break it, she somehow slipped by it. It is important to note that the Carnival Queen is the collective consciousness of Time Lords who did not follow Rassilon into the rational universe and were kicked out of Nspace, and formed into a singular being. So, them being Time Lords probably has something to do with that feat of surpassing the barrier. Though with a wave of her hand, the Carnival Queen created a billion universes. So she's also incredibly powerful. There are definitely other feats and other things to say about the things I already mentioned. Like the Eye and the Barrier have more feats and uses than I could list, and are even more powerful than I described, as well as Time Lords themselves biologically and other tech.
@JP-dz5oj7 жыл бұрын
I probably would have included The Ancients form the Kirby Series on this list, but I don't blame you for not including them since they are so obscure. For those not familiar with them, their feats mainly include the construction of bizarre and fantastic machines, which includes the Novas (planet sized sentient machines capable of granting any wish), Star Dream (the most powerful supercomputer in existence capable of taking direct control of Novas), The Helm (A crown that grants its wearer complete control over space and time), and the Lorr Starcutter (a Vessel Capable of traveling between dimensions and through time).

They're probably comparable to the time lords, but that still puts them leagues below something like the Xeelee. Humanity in the Xeelee sequence is capable of casual FTL and time travel, and their superweapons use stars as ammunition. They managed to drive off the Xeelee in a war costing trillions of lives that destabilized space time itself. Their time travel tactics, reality manipulation and willingness to throw trillions of lives at the Xeelee convinced him that it wasn't worth his effort to save humanity. He packed up and left to rejoin the rest of the Xeelee in their work to escape the universe due to their losing war against a more powerful alien threat.
The Culture was great because it really went into what a society would be like with functionally infinite resources. Some other good ones: The various super races from the Lensman series by EE Doc Smith (races who are intelligent enough to visualise the entirety of space time). Also the Uprising universe by David Brin, not on par with your list but a group of mega cultures billions of years old.

5. Larry Niven - Ringworld, the RingWorld engineers. 4. Peter F Hamilton - there's the artefact in the Nights Dawn trilogy, which has godlike powers. Then in the next series, there's the people who built the Void, at the centre of our galaxy, and then, you know, checked out to see what the interesting people were doing... 3. There is an utterly beautiful paragraph at the start of an Arthur C Clarke novel, which goes something like "First they built ships of clear metallic gemstone, to travel the sky and space. Then they became ships of gemstone. Then they learned to write their thoughts, their souls, their personalities and ideas, on the fabric of space and time, and so they became like ghosts, able to cross between galaxies in the blink of an eye, or able to drift between subatomic particles, like smoke... They had become the gods their ancestors dreamed of." That's nailed the hopes and dreams and aspirations of technical race, in a few words. That's genius. That's the greatest description of what we want to be and dream of, that I have ever seen. 2. Dune saga, Frank Herbert. In Chapter House, the most advanced people start to see visions of an old man and woman, working in a garden, trimming the roses, who seem to be face dancers. These people were made as tools, as puppets, as imitators, yet they have stepped way beyond the ones who created them. They have godlike awareness and godlike powers, and they have also developed morals beyond the petty humans who made them as weapons. 1 I'll leave blank. As Arthur said, any technology more than a couple of steps in advance of your own, is indistinguishable from magic. Honourable mention - David Zindel - Neverness. The divine order of mathematical navigators, who dive between worlds, galaxies, dimensions, parallel universes, in ships that augment their minds... I can't summarise it in 3 sentences - it's too complex and too damn good! You have minor characters, like the Japanese Zensumi assassin, who tried to ascend to god-hood, by building a computer the size of a planet, to hold her mind, who recites to navigators she captures "Tiger Tiger burning bright, in the jungles of the night..." It takes you hunting with cavemen, on the pack ice, for seal and bear, gets you murdered by the tribe for witchcraft... it takes you through lethal murderous father-son rivalry, through mathematical genius... it is a novel about intelligence, and dramatic failures of human character...
@AM-kf2zt6 жыл бұрын
If you make an honourable mentions list, please include the Isu from Assassin's Creed. In that universe, not only is their technology directly or indirectly responsible for almost all of mankind's modern inventions, but they actually CREATED man. The Apple of Eden, their most famous tool could actually control and read people's minds, create simulations of alternate histories, act as repositories of knowledge, but is also partially sentient. Tools which act as Energy Weapons or Energy shields are mere scraps to them. They developed tech which could (temporarily) raise the dead and have them record information, and also tech which could heal wounds and possibly give immortality to the wearer (though the last one hasn't been verified). They can transfer their consciousness to cyberspace, create planetary sized energy shields, power sources which have lasted 10,000+ years and can actually READ the language of time. That means that they can time travel indirectly, rather than physically going to the future, but instead knowing what would happen if certain events are triggered and triggering them to make sure that they happen while leaving any necessary messages in the process. They are hinted at to have visited earth from other worlds and the only reason they were mostly wiped out was due to a double surprise attack of a Human-Isu hybrid led uprising and a Solar Flare which cooked the planet. On their own, each event could have been dealt with, but the two together surprised and overwhelmed them and led to their downfall. They STILL survived that but a low population would have resulted in a population crash so they instead transferred their consciousness to their machines.

I would add the Ancients from Stargate. Technology that reached the apex of what's possible in a mortal species, a weapon that could destroy an entire galaxy, oh and a power source that was "as great as the scope of the universe itself." And then after their Ascension, they are described as having "infinite" wisdom and understanding. A single Ascended Ancient, if unrestrained by the Collective, could lay waste to an entire galaxy...

Two races I'd nominate, but neither really do time travel. First, the Consu from John Scalzi's Old Man's War. A crablike race that is so far beyond the rest of the galaxy that they believe that even communicating with lesser races pollutes themselves irretrievably. Their ambassadors are killed and their remains sent into a black hole to prevent contamination. The Consu have erected a Dyson Sphere around their home system and have defensive shields and stealth that no other species can even attempt to rival. The only reason lesser species can win a battle against the Consu is because the Consu view battle a religious experience and deliberately reduce their weapons and tech down to meet their opponents. The second race would be the Olympians/Transhumans from Dan Simmon's Illium series. They are not actually gods but transhumans modified to have abilities and technology matching the powers of the ancient Greek gods. So teleportation, invulnerability, super strength, etc. While they do not have time travel they can dilate time. Their powerful enough that they can recreate the Greek mythic age on Mars.
@SDesWriter4 жыл бұрын
I think the Lantians (Ancients) should have been on the list. yeah they made the replicators which was kind of a fubar, but they invented virtually every interesting idea possible, they had time travel ability although they decided not to use it, and they ascended to different plane of existence and could travel the universe at will in the form of pure energy. That's not half bad....

Since I'm a huge Metroid guy I'd like to put the Chozo on something like this... but almost nothing in Metroid in quantifiable. for example, In Prime Hunters Samus goes form the Milky Way Galaxy to the Tetra Galaxy and back again in an indeterminable amount of time with her gunship, unassisted along with several other bounty hunters. This isn't the only example of something like this happening, but the fact that Metroid gives general information about what happens on a particular planet that Samus goes to and maybe a hint about the galactic society as a whole is sort of one of the draws of the series. The aura of mystery is part of why exploring in the games is so fun and immersive as well as giving fans like me stuff to speculate about. It's for that reason that I'd like to see Metroid stuff in your videos, but there's not a whole lot to quantify when compared to Halo or Warhammer 40,000, and you might not have even played Metroid before so I'm not surprised to see no Metroid stuff.

Even the Xeelee had to run away from this universe because the Birds are trying to reconfigure it to make it more comfortable to them, and it’s not out of malice as well, the birds just hardly even notice the Xeelee (and the the rest of baryonic entities like us as well). And from the Whoverse, there is a blantant copy of Iain M. Banks’ The Culture, called the People (the writers themselves admitted that they got this idea dropped from the back of a truck, no questions asked), who are on par or more powerful than both the Time Lords or the Daleks (yet, being a happy go lucky culture they just tend to stay off from the intrigues and focus more on self fulfillment and pleasure). There’s also the humanity (or the post humanity culture atleast) from Michael Moorcock’s Dancers at the End of Time (though they have the power to reverse entropy an such, the only thing stopping them are laziness and boredom).

I am writing a sci-fi book ( a project started 10ish years ago with my best friend) and I know probably wont count nor would probably top nr1 position but still I wanted to expose a little about some of the top races I created during the years (not including gods or single entities of such levels, which there are quite some) "Revi's" short name for the Revitalizers, a race originary of the "Old universe" which end (by their own hands) resulted in the making of the actual one, most of them were human looking able to manipulate and control any single cell in their body at their will, such they were biologically immortal and able to use "powers" beyond comprehension due to energy manipulation, due to this ability of theirs is impossible to determine what was their "true" form if they even had a defined one they also made technology to fit their natural talents able to morph according to their needs when directly "linked" basically they were able to fuse with their technology acting as an extension of themselves, they had an empire so vast that was basically universal and they are famous today as the "makers" of most of civilizations living in the universe which they made by coding any possible genetic variation and calculating evolution itself in self replicating sphores( based in a way on the Pansphermia theory to explain origin of life) very few of them still exist today as they used some special device called "Matrix Crystals" to save and preserve themselves beyond the destruction of the old universe, but they lost pretty much all their technology so today the few left are not even close to the 0.01% of what they used to be, and even if they still have their natural abilities and their knowledge they simply have no longer the tools to replicate their lost glory and to make it worse those who survived even being still immortals they lost the capacity to replicate and procreate themselves Zowmory, currently considered the top most powerful race in the universe, one of only 3 known "Lvl 5" and also holders of the largest empire even existed (in this universe) that expands above over 450 million galaxies as well as the most powerfull battle fleet their homeworld (that they destroyed by their own volition to erase the origins of their history when they reached a stellar society lvl) was situated in a peculair galaxy called simply "Dark Galaxy" which center is actually the exacp point where the old universe was erased they are also one of the oldest races as they reached the level of sentience as well as space travel already 8 billion years ago, they spent ages perfectioning and manufacturing their evolution at the point where they removed any original aspect of themselves that was considered to be a weakness( they are NOT immortal even thou they easily live for over 2 million years) they dont have a specific gender anymore nor sexual reproduction, instead they replicate by something similar do a selection cloning process in which they take the strongest aspects of the DNAs of 2 individuals to create an even better one, thus each generation is twice more advanced than the older one, they subdivided their whole species in 4 sub races or "classes" each designed for specific roles with different profound modifications but still having a decent level of common aspects such as gray skin with differnt extension of exoskeleton tissue and big yellow eyes of these classes I will mention only 1, the ones that makes most of their army called simply "Soldiers", they are able to fortify their skin and change it to create natural weapons like sharp claws, studs, and even cannons able to shot microscopical bones fragments acting like fast and deadly bullets but beyond all that they are able to do a " shadow jump", basically due to the modification of their chemical structure they can change from solid to a semi aereiforme state of matter and can pass as "shadows" through solid matter like walls and avoid mostly any kind of direct damage, in this form they do however have to be always extremely focused on keeping themselves together otherwise they may die by "atomic dispersion" unable to turn back to a solid state, these are the most basic kind of soldiers but there are many, many more each designed with more specif roles in a battle, not to mention the "hybrids" they made between the 4 classes almost 100% of their technology is based on the concept of "concrete virtual data", they have a system called "ZUCS" (Zowmory Unlimited Construction System) that allows them to create anything in any shape and form they can immagine in a virtual space, manipulating any aspect of its structure ( they could make a foil of paper with the proprieties of steel if they so desire) and use it then to give an imput to virtual paricles in a specif place in space to create it in real life in an instant, they use it to create virtually endless army, ships, space stations, cities, planets and even stars! the idea beyond this technology is that the whole universe is filled with virtual particles with no interaction charge to become real, so with the right knowledge and technology they give to each of this particles a specific code to replicate (yes I know may sound absolutely broken and irrealistic by most standards BUT they are a very, very old race who had billions of years to understand and develop technology far beyond any one else did at the point that for some may look like straight magic!) there are more than these 2 obviously but for now should be enough to give a glimpse of the level of power some species in my book can reach also probably nobody will read all of this if any at all...

You forgot Masters of Time (Les Maîtres du temps). A civilization that basically control space and time for colonization. To the least. And when I say , I mean they build moon sized station (sounds familiar eh ^^ ?), just for monitoring their colonization process, which involve manipulating space and time, everybody respect them as they are some sort of ethereal lords of the universe, without even being the most numerous species (obviously, as they don't enter in much contact with humans, although there is plenty of them ; humans ; , whilst their powers would allow them to occupy it entirely. It follows that they aren't really numerous).and it's the only thing we need to know about them : they're unimaginably powerful and all respect them, even if they aren't that numerous and they don't have any army of any kind even mention. And the reason why you should've put them at least at 3 place is because they aren't defeated. Contrary to Times Lord (but okay, we know less about them).

I would definitely swap 3 and 2 because once you delve into the expanded universe of Doctor Who especially the Big Finish audio dramas and the Doctor Who books running in the 90s, you will see just how powerful the Time Lords really are. I would highly recommend the book 'A Brief History of Time Lords' to get are more in-depth look at them as a species. They wouldnt be number 1 still, because of the scale of the manifold cosmology.

This was a fun topic to consider. While I was aware of and read many stories by Isaac Asimov, I did not know about, "The Last Question." I also did not know the other stories in your list and have enjoyed reading through some of them since watching your vid.

I forgot to add who I thought should be on the list. The first race that comes to mind is the race from which the Q in Star Trek comes from. Q and those like Q have god-like powers. From what I understand they can create matter at will; they span not only this universe but have access to others or at least other dimensions; they can travel in both time and space. The Q civ seems to me to be far more powerful than the Time Lords. I don't actually know much about Star Trek save for six or so seasons of the tv program I watched so I could have my understanding incorrect. Another version of humanity in Isaac Asimov that is interesting comes from the far distant humans from "The End of Eternity."

What about the kantameleons from ben 10?THEY LITERALLY CREATE AND DESTROY UNIVERSES

The Ancients aka Alterrans from the stargate franchise. Originally the first evolution of intergalactic humans and the "gate builders", they ascended and gained the knowledge and control over an infinite universe(and all derivations).

I'd like to make an argument for another species that, although probably wouldn't make the list, I still find massively interesting. That would be the *Anti Spirals* from Gurren Lagann. The anti-spirals are a race (or multiple races) of beings in the Gurren Lagann universe that are of a similar age to Humanity, although their technological advancement can be equivilated to that of gods due to their inate ability to *never be struck back against*. Quick summary of the Gurren Lagann universe: In this universe, there is something called 'Spiral Power', or the power of evolution. Think of it like a literal power of friendship, except weaponized. Spiral Power is basically a feedback loop of an infinite energy source, which is to say if someone can generate their own consiousness, they can generate a spiral power equal to the strength of said consiousness. It sort of breaks the basic laws of matter, in that matter CAN be created, although it CANNOT be destroyed. The Anti Spirals predicted that a four stage event would happen called the *Spiral Nemesis*, in which the following events would occur: 1.) The spiral races would grow in strength and power, constantly using Spiral Power as a means of energy production in order to constantly expand their empire 2.) These empires would eventually reach a critical mass of Spiral Energy, in which the Spiral Races would constantly add to the Power of the Spiral in a way it was not intended. 3.) A jump in creation would eventually be achieved, thus meaning that Spiral Power would eventually create as many galaxies as there are lifeforms in the universe, which would then create a feedback loop And 4.) This feedback loop would then cause all of these galaxies to condense and combine, forming a hypermassive black hole and dooming the universe to eternal extinction. Of course, the Spiral Races disliked this idea that all of reality would be obliterated, and as such haulted their own evolution, created a masked pocket dimension that was inaccessable to any entity on the outside. This allowed them to basically send endless waves of attackers to bring down the spiral races, leaving them all in a sort of feudal society. I won't go over the entire Gurren Lagann story here, but the Anti Spiral's only weakpoint seems to be the manifestation of their races collective consiousness, of which can be considered like an eldrich deity. The Anti Spirals use machines made of antimatter to destroy lesser races after they reach a certain population limit. If a race happens to be strong enough to resist and repell these attacks, including (but not limited to) machines that self destruct to destroy cities, cages made to destroy Spiral-Based ships, Planet sized vessels capable of time manipulation, probability manipulation missiles, instant teleportation weaponry, a machine specialized in turning Spiral Power into a sort of 'sea' that can trap other vessels, used as a sort of 'net' to any species that can even reach their pocket dimension, create mechs the size of *GALAXIES*, and obliterate perticularly devistating foes with an attack that rivals the power of the creation of the universe. Of course, this isn't half as strong as some of the other species on this list, but I thought it was interesting to mention! (Even if it was late...)

Steve 343 SGC would win, hands down. Assuming it's around the time of SG:U, and that it's a single battle, the 9 BC-304s the SGC had at the time could take on the Systems Alliance fleet. They were basically on par (if not superior to) ascended Ancient tech. The Systems Alliance would win in an all out war, however, as they could split their fleets to a greater extent than the SGC, and the Systems Alliance would only really have to take out Earth to succeed.

SGU would win. The mass effect civs basically have modern or near modern tech with a cheat mcguffin. They just have a magic material called element zero that makes all their tech run. Compare that to the SG earth - constantly advancing in the face of adversity. Building spaceships without magic metals. Guns that keep working... Directed energy weapons... Access to essentially a portal to evacuate to countless worlds in the galaxy and beyond. At first the system's alliance would win... But the SG people would surpass them in a matter of years.
